The Nets

I must admit, I was pretty taken aback when some people on the site maintained that the Nets had a better core of players than the Knicks despite their early season woes. Well, at their halfway point of the season, they stand at an abysmal 3-39 with no signs of life. Kris Humphries has been arguably their second most productive player behind Lopez since joining the team. Yi still looks soft in the post, though he is playing better, and Harris may have reached, or is at least close to his ceiling. CDR shows good skills, but is far from a go to player, especially with his jumpshot breaking down the farther out he is. The biggest issue is that none of them seem to be able to defend man-to-man, and they certainly struggle from a team perspective. Only Courtney Lee can be considered an above average defender. They just dont seem to have the talent to get it done. In the midst of their third double digit losing streak, can they do anything to show that they can win basketball games?

Lets compare their top five

Lets compare their top five young core....

Lee, Chandler, Gallo, Hill, Douglas

vs

Lopez, Harris, Yi, Lee, CDR, Twill

I think it easily goes to the knicks, gallo would average 20+ pgg as a top option on the nets, plus hes only played like 40 healthy games in his career. Lee has clearly been an all star averaging 20 and 11 and 4 assists.
The Knicks have 3 of the 4 best young players, the top four is lee, gallo, lopez chandler - in that order
Hill is finally showing flashes of what he is going to be and is most definitely still a higher value that twill, who to me seems like a huge bust. Douglas, when given time, has shown he can score in bunches and would definitely have numbers at least as good as CDR had he been given as much freedom as him. Lee, CDR are role players at best. Lee is 24 years old and can't help his team win more than 3 games 42 games in scoring 11 ppg as one of their top options is pathetic, CDR is nonexistent in games. Yi had a nice week after coming back from injury and thats it, the few nets games that i have seen he has played awful and somehwat helped his stats out in the 4th quarter in garbage time to make them look decent (nets play garbage time every night)
