GRIZZ OR CLIPPERS PART 2

i made a post awhile ago about which team would be better by mid season. bak then alot of people said the grizz were the worst defensive team in the nba, oj mayo is playing worst this year, mayo and gay cant work, randolph is a black hole who cant play d and wont work on this team. fast foward and now we see the grizz are for real. they are clearly better then the clippers. they play pretty good defense, they work hard and have many weapons. mayo didnt start out slow nor was he playing worst then last year. he averged 17pts while shooting 48 for two and 34 from 3. i still say hes better then eric gordan. there numbers are similar with mayo leading in eff, scoring, assists, steals and has his team winning more games. zach basially said this team is better then his last. mayo and gay has worked out very nice. mike conley has stepped up. i was one of the people who believed in him and said give him time( then i said they should think of trading him if he didnt step up ). they have seperated them selves from the pack of second level basement dwellers and are now fighting for that 8th seed. i would love to see them get it so they can play the lakers. there would be alot of story lines in that game

kobe vs mayo
gasol vs bynum
gasol vs zach
gay vs artest
both gasol's old team vs there new team( although the younger one was never truely a laker)

Yeah the Grizzlies are a

Yeah the Grizzlies are a little better than the Clippers (without Griffin). Who knows what kind of impact Griffin could/would make.

Mayo has played a little better so far this season than he did last but he hasn't taking as big of a leap forward as I would've liked to seen overall.

I definitely didn't think Memphis would be this good & I didn't think Randolph would have this big of a positive impact.

I would also like to see a Memphis vs. Lakers playoff series.  That would be entertaining even though the Lakers would probably win in 5 games.

when you have a team liek

when you have a team liek that you cant really take much of a leap foward. i dont see any soph's making a huge leap on a playoff team. the big leaps seem to ome from non winning teams. the better youre team the smaller the leap for the most part

The Grizz are better. The

The Grizz are better. The emergence of Zach Randolph into an All-Star level player, and the development of Rudy Gay into an elite scorer has them better than the Clippers. O.J. Mayo will be a great player in the future as well, he's like a shorter Joe Johnson in that he can score even though it looks like he's not playing all that hard. He's a serious competitor. I do think the Clippers would be just as good with Blake Griffin though, I think Blake will be a very good player and would've make an immediate and significant impact.

Assuming the Grizz can keep Gay, I think they will be better.

Also, Iggy I offered you a trade in fantasy

As much as you'd like to

As much as you'd like to ignore the fact Mayo got off to a slow start... The truth is, he did. Especially his play at the defensive end. I watch Kevin Martin obliterate him at the beginning of the season. All that's irrellivant now though because he's been playing pretty well the last month or so. I still don't see a significant jump from last season to this one for Mayo.

I don't blame a lot of people for saying the Grizzlies wouldn't be that good. They'd just added Randolph and Iverson to Gay, Mayo and Gasol lol. None of those guys, other than Mayo, had really been known to do anything at the defensive end. Coach Hollins has done a great job this season. You have to give him his credit. Also Randolph's committment to working out, losing weight and getting better over the summer deserves a lot of praise. Gasol has made a huge jump from last season. I think this team deserves a lot of credit for pulling together. I doubt they make the playoffs, but they're a MUCH improved team from last season.

I don't know how you can say they're "clearly" better than the Clippers though. For one... They're only four games ahead of the Clippers. Not to mention the Clippers haven't been at full strength all season. They basically have a 20 and 10 hole in their lineup considering they traded Randolph to clear room for Griffin, who hasn't played. I think the Grizzlies are a better team, but not clearly. It's not like they're in the playoffs right now, so this post is a little pre-mature. As of today, the Lakers would be playing Phoenix in the first round. The Grizzlies aren't a playoff team right now. I'd put my money on OKC before the Grizzlies.

As far as Mayo being better than Gordon... That's your opinion. It wouldn't matter if Gordon had better statistics and obliterated Mayo everytime they played lol. You'd still say Mayo is better. Gordon busted out of the gates this season and then slowed down due to getting injured. That's the ONLY reason Mayo caught up to him statistics wise. I think Gordon is the better offensive player AND defensive player.
