I know there's a big Jon Scheyer thread, I wont get going on him but I wanted to say something about Kyle Singler..
Singler will not be a good NBA player. At all. He has not played well all year for Duke.. His shot is not falling and he really cannot create shots for himself very good. Defensively, he's pretty solid but nothing spectacular. Partly because he is playing on the perimeter hes shooting only 41%.... In the NBA he is not going to play in the post he will get dominated.. He needs to learn a better perimeter game or else..
I wouldn't touch him until midway through the 2nd round...
I agree with you... He's a tweener in every sense of the word. He'll struggle in the NBA.
2nd round? this guy doesnt even belong in the NBA as an undrafted free agent
he should be next to Steve Wojo on the bench next to Coach K...not an NBA prospect, a slow Coby Karl, that can dunk. lol
Sucks as could've been a mid- first rounder if he stepped it up... Unfortunately he has regressed and it's difficult to really determine whats going on with him... Guess he's just not as good as expected.
He reminds me of Adam Morrison, with less perimeter skills...I wouldn't take him either until the 2nd round some time. Him, Tyler Smith and Craig Brackins probably should've declared last season...
Since they got it wrong with Boozer in 2002..Saying he was too short to play power forward..And was not athletic enuff to guard big in the pros..Boozer slipped into the 2nd round despite having an All-American career at Duke...I'm not comparing Singler to Boozer..They're 2 different type of players...Believe me Scouts have looked long and hard at Singler..And most say he will be better in the pros...They see him as a mid to late 1st rounder...The only worry about him is his lack of foot speed..But if u're scoring 20 points a game for a nba team...Thats all they want..........
Too bad Singler is only putting up 15.. And thats with him taking 15 shots a night. You can't compare him and Boozer, they are two completely different players. Singler is an outside guy who can't shoot.
I still think he is a late first rounder, but in 2011. If he were to come out this year his stock would be way down, but he since he isn't a lotto guy with a very high ceiling he could always stay for his senior year, improve his game and his stock and be picked in the late 1st to early 2nd.
When he was a freshman I thought Singler had NBA written all over him. However, after watching him play the past 2 years, I realized he has 3 serious flaws in terms of his potential at the next level. At least one, and probably two of them cannot be corrected by staying in school. Here's my opinion reference his flaws.
1. He's too slow. He loves driving to the hoop but it takes him forever. By the time he gets there, half of the defense has already rotated over to block his path.
2. He's not strong enough to play PF at the next level and he lacks the quickness to play SF.
3. His outside shooting is incredibly inconsistent and terrible at times.
rtbt, I agree with you there, if he just comes back and plays the same way he has this year he is a mid 2nd rounder, but I think if he realized those flaws and worked on his outside shooting he could do what Kyle Korver has done in the NBA. I agree about his strength and offensive tendencies, but ( and I know this is hypothetical ) if he were able to work on his outside shot he could be a late 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder as a 6'8'' shooting specialist.
I agree with you though, he isn't nearly as versitile as I thought he was last season. A lot of his weaknesses as far as playing at the next level were exposed this season. I think he would have gone 20-28 in last years draft.
In terms of NBA potential i'll take Scheyer over Singler any day of the week.
Kings should draft Scheyer then
