WHY is everyone saying Joe Dumars is a great GM??!!!!!!!
I know he lucked up and brought a championship to the Motor City..And put together a team of outcasts & journeymen that came together and played as a TEAM like no other in recent history...Detroit is where Billups found himself and became an allstar....But Whut has Dumars done for Detroit Lately? He's turned a once proud Franchise into a loser..They've lost 11 in a row...And there's nobody else to blame but him....I think his 1st mistake goes back to the 2003 draft...When he could've selected a player like Carmelo someone he could've built a team around...But instead chose Darko thinking they were getting a young Wilt, but got 1 of the biggest bust in league history...Then traded away the heart & soul of the team Billups for the talented but troubled Iverson..Dumars said he traded Billups for Iverson expiring contract...Combined Iverson's expiring contract with that of Rasheed Wallace... Many observers thought the Pistons would use that to sign someone from the free agent class of 2010..But Dumars couldn't wait to go shopping ..He picked up 2 guys never known for their defense ..Defense is Something that helped them get to 6 straight Eastern Conference finals 6 years in a row....Ben Gordon is missed in Chicago but hasn't fit in well with the Pistons...And Charlie V is very talented but plays well every other game..Stuckey is so overrated and doesnt mesh well with Hamilton..Their coach doesnt know how to dish out playing time to those who've earn it....They have a nice collection of offensive & defensive talent...But they lack size.......Piston fans can forget about this season and hope to draft John Wall.....
joe dumars is one of the best gms in the league. yeah he made some mistakes but what gm doesnt. i can see if he had three bad seasons in a row. but evey since he took the job , his moves have made them go to the playoffs every year, ecf finals alot, one championship banner. so just chill with the fire him talk
i don't care for dumars as a gm. He put a team together when the east wasn't very tough and they won a title and everyone said he was a genius. But he also drafted arguably the biggest bust ever. Even last season, look at what went down with the iverson deal. As soon as iverson showed up he was under the assumption that he would start. Meanwhile so was rip and stuckey was outplaying both of them. The whole situation was a mess and it put on the coach who was later fired, but shouldn't Dumars have had all that figured out before he traded his best player?
He also gave Rip a fat contract extension last january for like 12 million a year even though hes obviously on the decline and the pistons need to rebuild. I mean you trade chauncey but give rip the huge extension at the same time? He then spends that money from iverson's expiring deal on gordon who is overrated and brings the same thing to the table as Rip. So now you are paying 22 million to your sg's and they aren't even all-star caliber.
joe dumars, is an original BAD BOY!
tell you the truth is sort of see what joe d was doing by getting rid of billups and wallace he was trying to not have to wait so long when the older players on the team retired or start to suck and practically skip the rebuild stage, but signing ben gordon and charlie v was a big mistake he should have signed charlie v then save rest of the money for 2010 to get all star or maybe 2 people to help the club were they actually need it younger shooting guard not gordon and a center
Dumars aint goin nowhere thats just real talk
i don't think he should be fired. But people need to stop acting like he is flawless. I read an article not long ago that claimed him the number 1 nba gm of the decade, but he is in fact one of the few gm's that continues to make moves that leave me scratching my head. He can no longer just live off the team being very good earlier this decade. We will see what he is about over the next 2 years as he turns the pistons aorund.
Your right, but Pistons scout thought of Darko as a young Wilt nothing like Dirk, shows how wrong they were.
He's the best GM far as I'm concerned. He stays in contention without franchise players. They're going into the lottery this year and Dumars will exit on top. You never know how things shake out, Bulls got the 1st. pick and they were slotted 9th. Orlando got Webber and they were slotted somewhere around the 13th pick.
Dumars is by far one of the top-5 GMs in the NBA. Look at the other GMs considered good: Kevin Pritchard has Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, and Greg Oden (when healthy). Mitch Kupchak has Kobe, Pau Gasol, and Artest/Odom. R.C. Buford has Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili. Sam Presti has Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Every one of those players are either franchise players or all-star caliber players. Dumars built a winner from undrafted players, has beens, underwhelming players and unproven talent. If you put any of those other GMs in Detroit with the same players, there wouldn't be a championship banner, division championship banners, or 6 straight Eastern Conference Finals appearances. Give credit where credit is due. Most GMs would kill to be in Dumars' position. For all the Piston fans wanting Dumars' head, just remember that it could've been worse (just ask Memphis and Chris Wallace)
