Wes Johnson Better Pro than College Player?

i think at 6'7 do it all versatility

he compared himself to Caron Butler (more athletic though)
and Kobe Bryant

and he studies their games as well as other NBA wings

I see the similarities and potential size mismatch as a 6'7 SG or
quickness at the SF position

1)So my big question is WHY is he compared to 6'9 lanky DerMarr Johnson?

2 completely different players

he is shorter and more robust than Dermarr

Dermarr was skinny and not strong core stability compared to Johnson
and has a little post up turn around jumper as well

and Johnson has more guard skills than DerMarr Johnson

2) what is your NBA comparison for Wesley Johnson's upside?

Wesley is good but his ball

Wesley is good but his ball handling and outside shooting are raw, so I would have to say RIGHT NOW he is Demarr Johnson type player, BUT he has the POTENTIAL to be a Rudy Gay type player, I don't see Kobe or Caron.

Wesley is the surprise star

Wesley is the surprise star of the season...He looks like he's having fun on the court..But I didnt know he was such an excellent passer and he has good court vision..I want to see him bring the ball up and try to set up or create play for teammates..Before i can say he'll be a top 3 pick....Wesley & Damarr's game are almost similar...But Damarr was more of a guard ..Wesley plays in the post a little more.and needs to work on his outside shooting..Wesley also reminds me of Danny Granger..Granger was versatile in college... but who knew he would be a 25 point scorer in the nba?

As the Syracuse pundit for draftnet. and the FIRST person on this site to mention Johnson as a budding star and top 10 pick (I dare someone to deny this) he will eventually be a better college player. He's taken the college world by storm, but he's also reaching his celiling. He's a fourth year junior and also did a year of prep school.

To me, his build is my biggest concern. My question is weather he will be durable enough. He's 6 foot 7 and maybe 180 dirpping wet. He's very polished. And a good offensive and defensive player. But he will eventually be remembered for one dream season with the orange. And that's not to say he won't be a good pro. Just not maybe an all-star.

Carmelo will lead the league in scoring.
Willie Warren won't be a lotter pick.
Matt Barnes is finally getting some mins.
I brought Wesley Johnson to this website.
The Lakers will 3-peat.

Yeah he does look bigger
Yeah he does look bigger than 180.  Wes was real skinny at Iowa St.  He has come a long way since then.  He has obviously worked hard on his game & gained some weight & it has paid off.  Still, he probably does need to gain a little more weight if he wants to be really effective playing SF in the pros.  Those extra pounds will help him out defensively.

I mean does age really

I mean does age really matter about a player reaching their ceiling, he's only 22 he can get alot better and he still has alot of potential.

And if it does matter, how so?

Wes Johnson will likely play

Wes Johnson will likely play/defend 2-guard position

most starting Small Forwards are 220 plus he would be at a disadvantage strength wise

I've seen some sites list

I've seen some sites list him at 195 & others list him at 205.  So I would say he is now in that weight range.

Sleeper_Pick- You could be right, he could defend SGs.  Still, I see him as a SF.  All he has to do is gain 20 pounds & he would be at a good weight.

from what I've seen of

from what I've seen of johnson

he is a better post up player which is good in the NBA

how many NBA guards can iso him and let him go to work in the post

and then go out and defend both wing positions

he will have to show more pick and roll ability in DRAFT Workouts tho

dont bank on Wes bulking

dont bank on Wes bulking up he's 22
his body is NBA ready

Kobe is 205 and that is more realistic goal than bulking up 20 lbs

and he would probably lose some athleticism with 20 more lbs

id rather him keep the quickness and be able to squeeze between defenders

20 lbs might limit his ability to turn the corner and he'll settle for jumpers more

like Vince Carter cant turn the corner at 6'6 220

i dont like the idea of bulking up AT ALL

We will see, I think he is a

We will see, I think he is a SF.

Bulking up has helped his game so far.  He wasn't near as good at Iowa St. being so skinny as he is now.  Paul Pierce is 6'7" 235, he can still get to the rim.  The majority of SFs in the league are big & physical..Pierce, LeBron, Melo, Granger, Gay, Gerald Wallace, etc...  I like the idea of him bulking up.

Bulking up isn't always

Bulking up isn't always good. Remember Kobe also bulked up to 220 at one point in his career, but it affected his quickness, and flexibility. Besides, weight isn't an issue if he's strong. He shows good strength in the upper and lower body (the play against Memphis where he battled off two of his own misses, gathered, and dunked shows strength in both areas).

Wes can turn into the type of player that guards the opponents best wing scorer. He shows the lateral quickness, length and hand speed to be a shutdown defender (watching Wes transition from defending the top of the zone to the wing is the best since Warrick and his freakish length). Whether he can elevate his ball handling from good to NBA great will determine whether he'll be an all star 2 guard. But he moves well without the ball and knocks down shots at a fantastic rate. I've watched enough Cuse games to know he will be a consistent mid range shooter. Does he have the range to be knockdown from three in the league? Remains to be seen. But he will be at worst a very effective bench player who can come in for 20 good minutes at the 2 or 3. At best, he's a lot like Granger.
