Agent Zero suspended indefinitely.
The only problem I have with Stern was that he didn't stop Arenas playing right away, so yeah it was slow. Though I would rather have him make the right decision and take his time rather than being haste and making a wrong decision.
I was just posting this.
Now that there has been a ruling has been imposed, Gilbert Arenas, who I dubbed an NBA All-Star while at Arizona, really exercised poor judgement when he brought not one, but three guns into his "workplace."
It's a very bad ending to the classic overacheiver who is otherwise a very wity, colorful and charismatic guy. He probably wouldn't have been suspended and Stern would have more than likely let due process take its course had Areans demonstrated any remorse and not continually use humorous commentary about alledgedlly brandishing a gun on a teammate.
Dhamp2...the greatest basketball mind in the world.
Carmelo will lead the league in scoring.
Willie Warren won't be a lotter pick.
Matt Barnes is finally getting some mins.
I brought Wesley Johnson to this website.
The Lakers will 3-peat.
Dhamp2, who cares that you dubbed Arenas an NBA All-star while at Arizona, that has nothing to do with this. Also, yeah he is very witty and colorful guy, but that is not the point in this instance. He did something that is illegal, and Stern is taking the right course as of now, but if he gets charged I expect him to get his contract voided, some jail time if it is a jail time penalty and fines across the board.
I really feel that the Wizards will void Arenas' contract.
Stern is not going to take it easy on him. If he suspended Ron Artest the entire season without pay for going into the stands, what's he going to do to Arenas?
What's funny is Arenas doesn't understand the severity of this. He's been downplaying it big time. I think that'll only make Stern's punishment even more harsh.
i dont' think the nba is going to do anything to crittenton. he didn't pull a gun on arenas while in the locker room. however the law will have something to say.
it would make sense if they voided his contract, they were trying to move him anyways and were asking for peanuts for him anyways. this might actually turn the franchise around.
My question is... Could this be the end of Gilbert Arenas?
I mean, David Stern could damn near suspend him the rest of the season... OR WORSE. I mean, because I think Stern is about to make example out of him and protect his league. He can't have the fans and NUMEROUS supporters/endorsers of the NBA thinking it's a "thug" league.
The Wizards could then void his contract. What would all that mean for his future? Is this something that could end his career permanently?
I think he will get another chance, I don't think he will ever be the player he once was, but that has been known since his knee injuries. I think he will be back in the 11-12 NBA Season if he serves jail time. I mean Michael Vick got a 2nd chance, and America is about giving 2nd chances, so if he serves his time and admits to his mistake then he deserves a second chance.
Yea I see him getting a 2nd chance...which he'd deserve if he shows he's remorseful and serves a prison term. I have a hard time seeing Arenas, who's never been in serious troubkle to my knowledge in the NBA, going and doing something really stupid like this again. But Stern had to suspend him indefinitely...
The best thing for this franchise is to void his contract and begin to rebuild. After Jamison and Butler are gone too, who would you keep? In regards to younger talent, McGee would have to be at the top of the list, see ya later Randy Foye, that dude is a buster, plain and simple, he has some of the weakest moves going to the basket, plus he's the worst at stagnating ball movement and taking bad shots, I bet Flip would keep him anyway, hey, if he couldn't win with that lineup in Detroit, there's no way in hell he'll even come close in getting the Wiz to be contenders, at this point, once they've gotten rid of their big three, they'll be at least 3-4 years out from being in the playoffs again, but oh, I forgot, their in the East, probably 2 years then, in the West, probably 5.
This is the 2nd time Arenas has had gun trouble though. He got in trouble once in Golden State for carrying an unregistered gun in his car or something like that.
"He can't have the fans and NUMEROUS supporters/endorsers of the NBA thinking it's a "thug" league"
Unfortunately that's already the public's opinion on the League. Kind of hard to get that stigma out of people's heads when they're assuming 3/4 of it's work force grew up living in government housing and received government funds. Not trying to stereotype, but this is the truth and you all know it.
They were talking about Arenas' situation on Mike & Mike this morning. It sounds like prison is pretty unlikely unless something new is revealed. Arenas' statement was pretty weak though. Something like, "I didn't want the guns by my kids" was why he had guns in his locker, and Mike was like "ever heard of a gun safe?" He also claimed that he didn't know that having guns there was against the rules. Pretty lame. Anyway, Mike and Mike were talking about if Arenas might never play in the league again like it was a real possibility, and they thought he'd be suspended for 1/2 a season at a minimum.
It is the reality of how the media portrays pro athletes that they had to come down hard on him. Charlie Sheen can still be in commercials after being the criminal in a domestic incident, Tiger can't even when he was the victim. Gilbert is an athlete, he isn't allowed in our society to laugh off accusations like this. This decree by Stern has just as much to do with his reaction to the accusations than the accusations themselves.
First Oden hurt, now Arenas suspended...man my fantasy team is destroyed lol
Seriously though I don't think Arenas should be suspended for the year. I think about 15 games would be fair. He hasn't gotten in any trouble in the past. Generally people get off slightly easy for first offenses.
Wow the Wizards are in trouble. I thought they would be the 5th or 6th seed in the East....they may end up now with the 5th or 6th pick in the draft haha. Too much talent on this team to have such a horrible year. Time to blow up the squad & rebuild.
This is what Arenas' profile says on ESPN:
News: NBA commissioner David Stern felt as though Arenas taunted him into making an early decision to suspend the embroiled point guard, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Spin: "Stern feels like he's been taunted by (Arenas)," NBA source says. "He's done for the year....at the very least." Arenas has been suspended indefinitely by the NBA. The Washington Wizards have issued a statement in support of the NBA's decision and will reportedly try to void the remainder of Arenas' contract. The fact that the Wizards came out in support of the NBA's decision doesn't bode well for Arenas' future in Washington.
He's done for the year, the only team that will be worse than the Wiz are the Nets, the Wolves could still beat them even with Arenas. I don't know who a worse option is at PG, Randy Foye or Earl Boykins?
i had been saying all along that stern will make an example out of him. He must not of got the memo about no heaters to work.
Happy 28th Birthday Gilbert. I'm sure you'll remember this one.
It's his birthday today? Crazy!
Arenas has had a bad year... Found out Shaq was banging his fiance (while pregnant) and now he's in trouble with the law, facing jail time, in trouble with the commissioner, suspended indefinitely, could get his contract voided with his team and is about to lose money.
Arenas is most likely done for the year and with the Wizards if they can void the contract. He is far from a thug like some media are making him out to be but he is going to be made an example of. As dumb a move Arenas did for bringing the guns into the locker room and challenging Javaris to make due on his threat (even though it was said in jest) what Javaris supposedly did was more dangerous. "Supposedly" Javaris got upset when he read the note Gilbert left for him and he picked up one of the guns and flung it across the locker room. If that is true, the gun could have gone off even if it was on safety. If they were a lot of people in the locker room at the time, we could be talking about a tragic incident instead of a bonehead one. Even though if Gilbert gets his contract voided it will be a tragic incident for him!
before. i like gil and respect his game. but when you pull guns out on someone. especially in a nba arena over something so stupid. then he deserves to be suspend for the rest of the season. i do believe he will get some jail time. nothing too serious. maybe a few months.
orange juice jones, -was that video clip a real interview with a prisoner.
Gilbert is a frickin joke. Honestley, he knows that he is in trouble yet he does that stupid ass pre-game dance with pistols in the game and continues to make light of the situation. I like him as a player, but this dude is dumb as hell. Im not trying to sound like a douche bag, but this is the one thing I hate about athletes...they think they can do whatever they want and when they get busted for something a lot of them don't take it seriously
Yes, it was a real interview. Think about it: these guys are in jail for LIFE. Never again will they have the opportunity to get with a woman. Why wouldn't some of them turn gay?
I just can't believe how stupid Arenas is. I have him in one of my fantasy leagues, a keeper league on top of that, so I've been watching this pretty close. It is like he wouldn't stop making a show about this until something drastic happened. You would have thought people would have been telling him he was putting his $100 contact in jeopardy with these antics. What does everyone think will happen to him if his contract is voided? Will he have to sign on as a back up somewhere or will someone make him their starting point guard? I still just can't believe how you could mess up this big. I actually understand the Vick thing more than I understand this. I don't understand how you just keep pushing until they have to shut you up.
What's confusing is his teammates were encouraging him to act a fool before the game vs the 76ers. They were all laughing while he was pretending to shoot them in the middle of the huddle.
OrangeJuiceJones,
Straight clowning dog!!!!!!! Funniest video I've seen in a while, keep em' coming, I'll keep dying from laughter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How the &$#%#&@! did you stumble onto something like that? That &$#%#&@! was pimpin!!!!!!!!

"Although it is clear that the actions of Mr. Arenas will ultimately result in a substantial suspension, and perhaps worse, his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game," commissioner David Stern said in a statement Wednesday. "Accordingly, I am suspending Mr. Arenas indefinitely, without pay, effective immediately pending the completion of the investigation by the NBA."
Every game Arenas ends up missing during the suspension will cost him $147,208.
