Favorite commentator?

Who is your favorite basketball commentator, NBA or otherwise? My favorite is Gus Williams. I love hearing him call games during tournament time. Walt "Clyde" Frazier and his splendid vocabulary come it at a close second :)

basketball, i would go with

basketball, i would go with the mark jackson/van gundy combo. They are funny. The Knicks and Clippers have some of the better announcers in the nba and the kings announcers grew on me too.

Marv Albert. I don't care

Marv Albert. I don't care about his off-the-mic transgressions. He has the single most recongnizable call in sports. "YES!" And I'm not talkin about his employers. I agree Van Gundy is fantastic, Mark knows the game extremely well, and hooping and scooping, dishing and swishing, shaking and baking and splendiforous forays to the rim are awesome.

Marv + Van Gundy equals the greatest broadcast team in basketball.

And remember magic, its Jeff Van Gumby. Knicks fans should always remember that. Jeff... Van... Gumby... lol

I'll call him van Gumby. And I think we should all call his brother Ron Jeremy from here on.

i respect steven a smith,

i respect steven a smith, but he always seemed angry and spoke down to his guess comementators. I assume there was something that went down behind the scenes with the way espn let him go so suddenly.

Best Announcer and Best Color Man

I think people who've watched basketball for a long time might agree with the following:

Best Announcer: Marv Albert

Best Color Man: Doug Collins

There are other guys whom I think are also very good but I have to say that I don't get it when it comes to people voting for Jeff Van Gundy. I like the fact that he says what's on his mind but there are a number of guys who are much better than him. Every game Van Gundy always manages to make at least one truly dumb comment.

Lol, that was very necessary. Those were the days. $100 million for H20? Chris Childs? Charlie Ward? Herb and Buck Williams AKA the kneebrace twins?

i like marv, but doug

i like marv, but doug collins is a little too serious and dry for me. I say bring back Bill Walton for laughs. Some guys like jon barry and reggie miller come off a little too serious for me. And Hubie Brown is like an encyclopedia of information and stats, but he will spend the entire shot clock explaining the smallest details to the point it gets boring. Kevin Harlan is the most exciting, he is like the announcer from the nba jam games making everything sound crazy exciting

llperez22 On the Announcers

llperez22, This is obviously a subject where a personal opinion matters a lot. Doug Collins may be too serious for some people, but I think both he and Hubie Brown are the two most knowledgeable color men. I love listening to guys like them who actually know what they're talking about. You certainly can't say that about Jeff Van Gundy. For the life of me, I can't figure out why anyone would hire him to coach their team.

Marv Albert is the best and has been for many years, but I think Kevin Harlan isn't far behind. I love it when the talks about the 3 point dagger. Although I don't see him doing basketball too often, I think Gus Johnson [hope I have his name right] is one of the most exciting young announcers.

also, Rick Kamla and Steve

also, Rick Kamla and Steve Smith on nbatv or real cool. I get the feeling they smoke weed together before the show starts. Webber is also cool on tnt. Eric SNow and Brent Barry are'nt so good though.

Steve Smith

Steve Smith is a guy who has a lot of opinions... Eric Snow seems to echo what other guys are saying and he's quite reluctant and somehow likes to eat his words... Boring!

I like Marv Albert and Kevin Harlan... They're both awesome...

ralph lawler and mike

ralph lawler and mike smith.

lawler has the famous "bingo!' call and the lawler's law: first to 100 wins - its 19-1 this year.

and mike smith is just out there but hilarious. he is the perfect clipper commentator because he is funny when we suck.

i also really enjoy hearing marv albert, and at times van gundy. mark jackson and his "momma there goes that man" line gets annoying tho.
