do you realize how much over

do you realize how much over the cap they would have to go to sign bron and lee?...you do know its like 2 million for every million you go over the cap right. 2011 wouldnt matter because with how much they would be over the cap getting rid of curries contract wouldnt make much of a difference. its a nice reach though..and yeah you should be done arguing bkballer because the chances of the knicks getting lebron is slim and none..they are in a very bad position and there team isnt a overnight fix like you may want it to be. this is more then just fixer upper

plus your 6 million estimate

plus your 6 million estimate is if the salary cap is 50 million, it will most likely be around 53-54, making it 10 million genius.

its good to have hopes and dreams if the knicks are youre team though. the thing that hurts there cahnces the most is that lebron isnt willing to take a step back or rebuild. he wants to win now

knicks will have 27 million

knicks will have 27 million on the books in 2010 with 8-9 for d lee thats 35-36. 16 for lebron is 51. 3 second rounders is another 2 million. thats 53. If they get rid of jeffries which i think is very doable with the addition of another piece suddenly the knicks can sign lee, lebron and a couple of decent players.

I already explained the

I already explained the numbers to you about Lee and a max free agent.
The Hornets are looking to dump salary and Knicks are one team that has an expiring contract that matches up.
You don't know how much some small market teams want to get out from the luxury tax.
Just look at what the Jazz did giving away Eric Maynor to the Thunder.
Many of these teams just flat out don't want to pay the luxury tax same goes for Milwaukee thats why they gave up Richard Jefferson for nothing. The tax makes no difference to teams like the Lakers, Mavs, Knicks, Magic, Celtcis and maybe some others. Also who are the Cavs going to add besides the mid level they have about 52 mill for next year already and they'd have to renounce Shaq and Big Z too.

2nd rounder isn't 2 million,

2nd rounder isn't 2 million, Tony Douglas was end of the 1st round and he got a little less than a million. Also Miami would have to renounce Udonis Haslem and Jermaine O'neal to get the cap room as well. That about 24 pts and 15 rebounds between the two of them. Also Dorrel Wright, Jamal Magloire, Arroyo and some others.

David Lee’s cap hold is

David Lee’s cap hold is calculated by applying the scale set forth by the collective bargaining agreement and multiplying by the “free agent amount“, which for Lee will be 300% of his salary. As the 30th pick in the 2005 draft, Lee makes $1,788,033 this season, his fourth year option year, as mandated by the rookie scale. The qualifying offer is 30% higher than this years’ salary. The cap hold is 300% of your expiring players’ salary (if that salary is less than the league average). In this case, Lee’s salary under the qualifying offer is $2,324,443. 300% of that is $6,973,329.

gotta get youre facts right buddy

I DONT CARE ABOUT LEBRON. I

I DONT CARE ABOUT LEBRON. I care about signing somebody because i know if we can keep the core of lee, gallo and chandler and a player worth close to the max contract we become a top 5-6 team in the league. I actually don't even like lebron and would be more than happy with joe johnson for 14 million.

You don't fully understand the salary cap. You're not adding in the cap holds nor the holds for the minimum roster spots. The Knicks will be charged the minimum rookie salary for every roster spot they have available under 12.

there are a ton of small

there are a ton of small details about the slary cap i don't think we all know. I've read about so many different details in the salary cap that I know the lakers are around a 100 million and still added players. Isiah made moves and additions constantly and the knicks were never close to the salary cap. I'm not saying the knicks can sign a couple of max deal guys, but if they want to get lebron and then some minor pieces around him and keep lee I think it can happen.

chandler has been playing

chandler has been playing the 4 for us this year a lot and gallo will bulk up. I do understand minimum roster spots the 3-4 players they are going to need is the 2-3 million left over, i added lee and lebron to 51 million on purpose.

i dont care if he goes to ny

i dont care if he goes to ny im just being realistic. lebron says he wants to win now am i right or wrong?..he says winning is number one on his list right?...so its only common sense to think he would want to go to a winner. i dont go by..wow great market or wow its newyork i do it in a way a lawyer does it. i go by all the facts. cap space, team in place, players goals. and most fans dont go by that..they just go by what they want to happen instead of looking at all the facts

the cleveland roster blows

the cleveland roster blows and hes close to winning im tired of hearing this he cant win in NY bs, cavs without lebron are a 19 win team, any team he goes to thats not named the cavs has a better chance of winning. Plus the knicks will only improve after they get lebron if they do because they can add pieces, the cavs have peaked.

The Knicks do have their Mid-Level and Bi-Annual Exception remaining, BUT... You can only use those if you go into free-agency over the cap, which the Knicks will be under the cap.

The only other option the Knicks have to pickup players is to trade, etc. They seriously don't have a lot of wiggle room under the cap. That's why it's so important that the Knicks move either Jeffries or Curry (mainly Curry) by the trade deadline this season.

and yeah youre right nyk im

and yeah youre right nyk im may be wayy off..it maybe even longer....and i havent heard about the hornets trying to traade with the knicks for cap space. they could trade withsome one else and get a player who is expiring who will actually do something instead of taking on currys contract knowing he wont do anything. doesnt that make more sense?..would you rather have a expiring contract player who will produce something or one that wont?...hmm thats a tough choice

I read a lil on the cap so

I read a lil on the cap so for players with 7-9 yeras in the league its 11 mill or 30% of the cap whichever is larger for the max. So if cap is 53 mill you can offer 15.9 mill and 55 mill would be 16.5 mill. For a guy like Rudy Gay since he has less than 7 years its 9 mill or 25% of the cap he would get about 13 mill at most.

No offense tezo, but i just

No offense tezo, but i just think there is more loopholes to the salary cap then you are anyone else on here can say they really know for sure. I mean, the lakers were able to use bird rights to keep odom, but they were also able excercise some kind 1.9 million exception they had to keep Brown even though he had only been on the roster a couple months. I've heard about base level slaries of guys who earn more then a 20 % increase in their previous years pay have a diffeerent effect on the teams slary cap then a non-base year salary player. I've seen some guys be given non gauranteed incentive clauses in their contract which up to a certain extent does not play into the salary cap. Pat riley tried to use these incentive clauses as a loophole to go over the cap to keep tim hardaway while signing juwan howard. I've heard that while the salary cap is gonna be around 53-54 million, that a "hard cap" (whatever that means) will probably be closer to 61 million and that the hard cap effects some of the other financial wiggle room a team has. Thjere are just so many details that after 20 years of watchign ball, I wouldn't even bother trying to educate people on all the little details.

No Knicks fans aren't the

No Knicks fans aren't the only ones you gotta follow NBA analysts more. Some of them think he returns to Cleveland not all.
A lot of guys want him to stay becaz Cleveland is a small market team & thats better for the league which makes no sense.

What facts am I ignoring I already knew about the cap holds. You seem to have forgotten them for other teams.
Not sure how many Knicks games you watch but Al Harrington isn't the main reason they've improved their play in December especially.

ok, so yuo know all the

ok, so yuo know all the details apparently. all i'm saying is that i'm not gonna trust anyone on this site like they know every detail about the salary cap. Do you know about the differences between a base year salary player and his effect on the cap as opposed to a non base year player?

If there was no way for the

If there was no way for the Knicks to sign a max guy and keep Lee they would've traded him away last year. No one said adding Lebron guarantees the Knicks a title next year.

Lamar Odom - He was their

Lamar Odom - He was their own free-agent, so they were able to use Bird Rights and go over the salary cap to sign him

Shannon Brown - They used their entire Bi-Annual Exception (Teams get it every other year) to sign him. They won't have it at all next season.

Ron Artest - They were already over the cap, so they were able to use their Mid Level Exception to sign him. They gave him the ENTIRE mid-level exception, so they no longer have any more of that to use this season.

Nothing too extreme there.

i feel you on that.. thats

i feel you on that.. thats why i always put the link i read everything on..as far as the knicks. what hurts them is the players they will have around to make lebron come. if they could get rid of curry or have the money to sign another star then id be the main one saying lebron will probably go. and if lebron said hes willing to take his lumps for a year or 2 before being a contender but he hasnt said that. and yes chandler and gallo are young potential talent( potential being a key word) but like i sai dbefore gallo is a sf not a pf and chandler is a sg/sf. and i dount lebron wants to play pf for a year or more. as far as al harrington being the main reason they are winning youre right he isnt.. but neither is gallo or chandler. al is more of the reason then either of those 2. hes always working hard and always gives it his all on defense. cant say that about either gallo or chandler and im pretty sure hes doing more rebounding and scoring then they are in dec. i may be wrong because i dont watch them much so if i am id love to see the proof

i know, i already knew about

i know, i already knew about the odom and artest situations as i pointed out. The brown situation where a team has a 1.9 million exception, i did not know about. But as I pointed out, there are other details that i mentioned as well Again, you wanna explain the effects of a base year players effect on the cap like i asked quincey?. I'm the one guy on here saying i don't know all the details and I'm not gonna just take all your guys opinion as fact. I see teams over the cap make space to bring in guys and sign guys all thetime.

When it comes to soft cap

When it comes to soft cap and hard cap... The NBA has a soft cap, That's what all those exceptions are... Being able to use Bird-Rights, Bi-Annual and Mid Level to go over the cap and sign your players.

A lot people get confused about the cap and when a team pays luxury tax.

2009/10 max salary cap figure: $57,700,000

2009/10 luxury tax threshold: $69,920,000

You don't start paying luxury tax until you meet or go over that threshold.

the Knicks are winning
the Knicks are winning because of 1. David Lee, 2. Al Harrington, 3. Gallinari... in that order.   Chandler is OK, but he really isn't that impressive to me yet though honestly.  Nate has been great at times.

Teams are able to make moves

Teams are able to make moves when they're over the cap due to exceptions. I think there are eleven of them total, but you might want to check that out.

Larry Bird Exception
Early Bird Exception
Non-Bird Exception
Minimum Salary Exception
Rookie Scale Exception
Traded Player Exception
Reinstatement Exception
Bi-Annual Exception
Mid-Level Exception
Trade Exception

Okay you got me on Lee not

Okay you got me on Lee not being traded. The main reason they are winning is a combination of Duhon, Gallo, Chandler playing consistently better check the numbers. Harrington and Lee have played well for most of the season yeah they've stepped it up in Dec. too. Theh 6 rebs for Harrington don't mean much Gallo averages 5 a game and Chandler 5.5. Also Chandler and Gallo scoring avg's have gone up and Harrington's are down he was above 20 earlier in the season.

his numbers going down have

his numbers going down have less to do with him and more of it being better for the team. basically like gator said there best players this year have been lee and harrington then who ever else. harrington brings hardwork and defense all the time so i can understand why he has been so important to the knicks. gallo is know for his potential and his shooting. hes not a defensive factor nor the worker that harrington is. lets make sure we dont mistake gallos potential with what he is right now

I used the same website and

I used the same website and thats where i got the 25 and 30%.
BTW Chandler has been the 2nd leading scorer on the team behind Lee since December. In Oct/Nov he wasn't good taking too many 3's but he's been getting better.
I don't think any big name is going to pass on the Knicks becaz Al Harrington isn't resigning. He's a nice player but he's peaked this being his 12th year in the league.
