Everybody want to compare these guys for what they are right now and they are both great players. but instead of comparing them now compare them for when they were the same age and you will come away with Kobe being the better player. We don't know how LeBron will be when he is 31 in his 14 season with that huge body we all know big bodied wing players break down. So with that said I look at where they were in their 7th season (LeBron this year)
LeBron- 28.9 ppg 7.1 rpg 7.8 apg 1.5 spg 0.8 bpg 50% fg 36% 3pt 78% ft 3.6 to
Kobe- 30ppg 6.9 rpg 5.9 apg 2.2 spg 0.8 bpg 45% fg 38% 3pt 84% ft 3.5to
I know everybody will say whats the point cuz the numbers are so close, but look at what their other star player was doing the same year
Mo- 17 ppg 3.4 rpg 5 apg 1.3 spg 0.2 bpg 45% fg 45% 3pt 89% ft 2.6 to
Shaq- 27.5 ppg 11.1 rpg 3.1 apg 0.6 spg 2.4 bpg 57% fg 0% 3pt 62% ft 2.9 to
Kobe won his 3rd championship this year in a row and as you can see by the numbers was now becoming the best player on the best team. Like is said from what we know about Kobe's career I would take him over LeBron for the fact he's a winner and we know about his longevity. Forget about all of the what if's with both players look at where they were at this point in their careers at the same age and tell me who's career you would take? We know after 7 years Kobe was the best player in the league and had a 3 peat. We know LeBron has great numbers but no rings
I love lebron game but i take kobe anyday even if he is 31 but at the level he is playing he can be and elite player for at least 5 more years and if the lakers win 2 or more championships u can put kobe up there with Jordan and Magic if he aint already up there
Lebron is a beast but kobe is better
plus the rings makes all the difference
kobe 4 lebron 0
ill take kobe..even if i wasnt a laker fan. but i do have to say i cant blame lebron for not winning a ring considering the teammates he has had. its not lebrons talent thats gonna keep him from being one of the best ever its gonna be his team. because if he had a title or 2 right now or even later in life then he will be considered one of the best ever. at the end of the day thats how great players are measured
Have you saw the game winner he had against Sacramento? He is better than Lebron and Im ready to crown him top 10 all time and 2nd best SG ever
I'm sorry...I'm taking LeBron and it's not even a question. Kobe won 3 rings as a 2nd option with one of the most dominant big men ever. Secondly, LeBron led his team to the Finals by himself...Against the same Pistons team that beat the Lakers in the Finals. When Shaq left, Kobe struggled. His team was a 7th/8th seed and lost to the Suns every year in the playoffs. Sure Kobe put up monster stats, but LeBron puts up monster stats as well.
You people need to stop going by rings...Like I said, Kobe won 3 rings with Shaq. If Shaq wasn't there. Kobe wouldn't have won a single title. If Kobe wasn't there, Shaq still might've gotten 1-2 titles. He was that dominant.
Can you imagine how good the Cav's would be with Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Ron Artest?
To sum this up...I'm taking LeBron. He has been the better player for the past 2-3 years. Stop going by rings. If you switch LeBron and Kobe the Lakers would be better and the Cavs would be significantly worse...I really don't think people understand how amazing LeBron is...And don't call me bias either...I hate both teams LOL.
Beanz-You can ask the questions of whos a better player now, but at the same age...LeBron is far superior. Don't even argue it....Remember when Kobe lost the Finals for the Lakers against the Pistons? Shooting terrible shots...When they could've just given the ball to Shaq and Malone? If LeBron was on that Lakers team instead of Kobe...They probably would've swept the Pistons...And oh, stop using the 3-peat bro...Like I said, Shaq won those Rings...Kobe was just enjoying the ride and the benefit of getting open looks when Shaq got double teamed.
5 years at this level your nuts time will catch up to him with all these extra games.
Also you'd think Bynum would get a bigger role in the offense by then.
gregoden- kobe was a second option to a prime shaq who was dominating the league. Tex Winter himself said that a prime Jordan would'nt average 30 a game with a prime shaq and you can bet lebron would have been a second option as well. So that argument just went righ tout the window.
secondly, yes lebron went to the finals once. He got swept and that was the easiset opponet the spurs played in all 4 rounds that year. The cavs only played 1 team and that was the pistons who choked. kobe that same year took a less talented lakers team that stareted Smush, Kwame, and walton to 7 games against a much better suns team. The cavs would have lost first round in the west too.
You can think lebron is better, but don't act like it aint a question and everyone who sides with kobe is just going by rings. Kobe is great and you hating on him wont deny that fact.
and i love your comment about "Shaq won those rings and kobe was just enjoying the ride" you lose all credibility on this argument with that coment. You know nothing about basketball if you think KObe was just enjoying the ride when they won tough 7 bgame series against teams like portland and sacramento. Kobe was the best perimiter player in the league then just like he is now. It's not his fault shaq was so dominant.
look at the stats from the last year they won the championship and you can see who was the lakers best player. also kobe carried that team in the west playoffs shaq just dominated the finals cuz the east didnt have a team with a good front court. the spurs, blazers, and kings gaves shaq troubles. just look at the numbers and give kobe his respect we cant go by what if cuz if that was the case a lot of players would have rings
i hear you beanz, but kobe was all nba 1st team during those first 3 tiles. He was all defensive 1st team. He was the best perimiter player in the league. He took all the big shots down the stretch and was straight up killing dudes. When people say he just sat back and rode shaqs coat tails that just shows their bias against him. But i guess if my screen name was "gregoden fan" and i had to watch the lakers kick my teams but year after year i would be upset too.
The guy averaged 30 with shaq in his prime we havent seen lebron play with a true superstar so you dont know what he will do and how he would play, but for some reason guys numbers get better when they leave cleveland
that was a dumb comment" those are shaqs rings" those are both of there rings. shaqs not winning it without kobe and vice versa on that team
You don't understand what I'm saying...If that team didn't have Shaq, then Kobe would have never won a title during the 3-peat years...If It was just Shaq, then the Lakers still had a chance...That's what I mean...
And look, I'm not triyng to hate on Kobe...He's a great player...2nd best SG ever...BUT, we all know without talent the Lakers are just another 7th/8th seed who lose in the first round.
LeBron has had less talent and a bad coach...And yet he still led his team to the Finals by himself...Kobe never did that...He never did anything in the playoffs (after Shaq left) until Pau Gasol came along and Andrew Bynum developed into a good center.
llperez22-Was he straight up killing it against the Pistons in the Finals? LOL nope...Exactly...What about when he played the Celtics in the Finals and got embarrased? Lol and I LOVE how you bring Portland into this...That is totally irrelevant. I hate Cleavland just as much as I hate the Lakers. I'm sorry buddy, but I think LeBron is better and that he makes all his teammates better...Like I've said...With less talent, Kobe and the Lakers are an 8th seed and losing in the first round. LeBron, with less talent led his team to the Finals. And what I meant by the whole "he was along for the ride" was Shaq was the best player in the league...No doubt about it. Kobe was a great individual talent at the time...He got tons of wide open looks. Don't tell me having Shaq didn't help his stats...It did. Shaq got doubled every time.
Like I've said, I'm not being harsh on Kobe...I just think LeBron is that much better. Obviously all the Lakers fans disagree...Their bias I don't care. I'm a Blazer fan...And I hate both teams. What bias do I have?
i dont see a chance without kobe either...youre saying you take away one of the best players in the world off that team and you think shaq still has a chance?..do you not remeber before kobe got there and while kobe was young how far shaq got?..it wasnt untill kobe started getting good that the lakers won the title so we have seen how far they got without kobe being much of a factor. and yeah kobe wouldnt have won it without him with that team either. neither would have won without each other with that team. but they both have shown that with a different team they can win without each other but with that same team.....nope
Nobody could stop Shaq. I still think he would've gotten a ring at least. But, I guess IT IS hypothetical.
Btw Quincey, I'm not the one giving you thumbs down. Whoever it is should post their opinion because obviously they agree with me LOL.
lol..ive been on long enough to know everyone isnt gonna agree with me or anyone for that matter so its ok. some people you just cant say anything wrong about a team or player they love. and yeah nobody could stop shaq before kobe got there or when kobe was young and shaq still couldnt win that ring. not sure why people seem to be overlooking that fact
But Shaq gained more experience. I guess I was being harsh...Those are both Kobe's and Shaq's rings. I will admit that was a dumb comment. Maybe that's just a credit to LeBron...Leading his team to the Finals by himself. Anyhow, both players are great. But I'm taking LeBron...
and peopel forget that orlando had a very good team with a first team all nba player n penny to go along with shaq and he couldnt win it. he had a all star sg in eddie jones and allstar pg in nick van exal and couldnt win it. im not sure they got out of the second round either. he had a couple of chances with them and couldnt do it. once kobe became a very good player thats when he won it. you can actually make a case and say kobe would have had a better chance since shaq almost got in in orlando with a 1st team all nba guy and got it with a first team all nba guy then got it again with wade who played out of his mind in the finals and was the main reason he got it. kobe got it with a first team all nba guy in shaq but also got it with a second team all nba guy. i still say one couldnt have got it without the other on that team but if you break it down as far as second fiddle guys kobe seems to have had a better chance to have gotten one without shaq
LeBron led his team to the finals in the east and got SWEPT! It's a whole diff ballgame in the west. People dont give this guy credit for winning rings he has been to 6 finals already. Jordan had great teams but gets all the credit it takes a team to win if you replace shaq with a good bigman he would win just like if you replace kobe with a good wing they win. LeBron has only been to 1 finals so far in the weak east and his teammates get all the blame maybe he needs to be like kobe and quit do less and let his teammates do more
That is a very good point. However, LeBron can't afford to let his teammates do more because they simply can't...LeBron has to do a lot because of the inability of his teammates. Not saying their scrubs, but they are inconsistent at times.
look at how kobe's supporting cast were b4 he let them do more. gasol is the only guy that has ever been consistent. i think he need a new system cuz the players aren't as bad as people make it seem
gregodenfan-if you had just said lebron was better and gave your reasons, I wouldn't even bother disagreeing with you because it is that close between the two. If people think lebron is better, that is a very understandable feeling. But when you say it isn't even a question and say shaq won those 3 rings and kobe was just along for the ride, then yeah you are showing bias.
I took away that comment because it was pretty stupid, I will admit that lol. But, I will still take Lebron anyday.
As crazy as this sounds... I think LeBron needs to do less in order for his team to win the title.
He needs to start playing off the ball more, slashing and letting his teammates create easy buckets for him. LeBron is a great player, but he still has some holes in his game. Considering his size, strength and athleticism, he should be taking advantage of that in the post more.
LeBron is as unselfish as they come, but I think he could make his teammates that much better by improving his game.
