What's up with this guy? He's only played 8 games since arriving in New York. I don't even see him on the bench anymore. Did he quit or something?
He's finally burst and disappeared into thin air from the immense pressure of being picked ahead of Melo, D. Wade and CB4.
didnt he go to play overseas? i thought i heard that.
The Knicks are his 4th and last NBA team, he's tired of sitting on the bench so he's going to play in Europe next year.
Milcic is a real puzzler to me because he's a legitimate 7 feet, he's strong, he can run the court, he can jump, he can block shots, and he can rebound. But he's never been given an opportunity to play on a regular basis. I would love to see an NBA coach put him in the lineup and tell him he's going to play every night for the next 2 months and he won't come out of he game if he makes a few mistakes. That would really be interesting, it could be the jolt that helps him regain his confidence.
I think his career was ruined when he was drafted so high as an 18 year old and went to a team in a foreign country filled with veterans. He spent almost 3 years glued to the bench and lost all of his confidence. He was finally traded and played sporadically in Memphis and Orlando, but occasionally had some killer games. In those contests he would score in double figures, he had double digit rebound totals, and he blocked 5 or 6 shots. That takes some real talent but then he would disappear in the next game doing virtually nothing. After awhile the coaches stopped playing him.
I've watched the NBA for most of my life and I've seen some real stiffs playing center who somehow played on a regular basis. Some of those guys didn't have half the talent that Milicic has. Something's going on with him but I don't know what it is but he definitely lost his confidence and needs a coach who can rebuild his mindset.
Next year...Yeah he said everyone in the NBA is liars(which I believe) and he said why did they take him at #2 if they weren't going to play him...I wonder.......
Milicic is a ticking time bomb....hes already made a few statements criticizing the NBA(thats not why hes not playing)
But besides from that, hes just another victim to D'Antoni's 8 man rotation
And he said he'll be going to europe next season 100%, nothing will keep him in the NBA at this point
I'm tired of hearing the excuses for Milicic... He's a bust. Case closed.
I don't care how tall, long, talented, athletic he was. I don't care how well he could run. Without the mindset... That competitive, hungry and confident attitude to fight... All that means nothing. He clearly didn't have the mindset to be a NBA player. Good luck to him in Europe.
You know another player who was drafted as a 17-18 year old and glued to the bench on a team full of veterans for a few years? Jermaine O'Neal. He turned out okay I see. I think it's all about your mindset. Some players have it and some just don't. Milicic didn't have it.
Tezo83, I don't disagree with anything you said because it's all true and I don't blame you for being tired of the excuses. On the other hand, the guy has a ton of talent and I can't help but wonder what would happen if any NBA coach would do as I said above, just let him play for 2 or 3 months every night without having to worry about coming out of the game if he makes a couple of mistakes.
How many times have you seen talented guys fail on more than one team and suddenly come to life when and if they finally get to a team where the coach has confidence in them? In that new environment the player knows he doesn't have to prove he belongs while playing only 6 to 8 minutes per game.
The NBA is loaded with great players who were drafted by the wrong team and never lived up to their talent level. It's all about confidence and being in the right situation. It's happened so often with various players who suddenly emerge into the limelight as we ask the question, why didn't he play like that on his old team.
The Human Victory Cigar... Joe Dumars' reputation is good but choosing Darko over NBA-ready guys like Melo and Wade is one stench he can't get rid of.
See I thought everyone would think I was an idiot for this, but maybe not. I still think Darko can play. Sure he's been on quite a few times, but he seems like he has been never given a consistent opportunity and that's why you see such inconsistent play. There is also part of me that wonders if he was not tough minded enough to fight through it all. Everyday you get called a bust and the real reason that you get called a bust is because you were picked ahead and between guys who are probable hall of famers. You end up being the one guy that goes to a team that does not need anyone, especially a rookie big man. I'm not sure Brown would have played Wade or Carmelo much in the first year and those guys were ready. You also have to keep his age in perspective. Most of us agree that big men take longer to develop that's why people still have high hopes for a guy like Oden despite his injuries and Bynum despite his injuries and the fact that he sometimes disappear. People have been hoping that Tyson Chandler would turn into something amazing since he has been drafted.
he said he was going to go overseas after this season, he was benched by none other than mike d'antoni
I think if he got the chance he could show he has some skills. I'm not saying allstar but look what kiki has done for Yi. when a coach shows confidence it can do wonders for some players and I feel this guy has never been put in a position to succeed by any of his coaches. He's still young the nba just gives up on guys like him look at gerald green has all the talent in the world but never got the chance thats just how it works. LeBron and all these guys would be busts if they were never given minutes and a chance to make mistakes and learn from them. I hope the Lakers pick him up and make everybody look stupid and this guy turns the corner
He got minutes in Orlando and during his first season in Memphis. I think he played over 25 minutes per game each of those seasons. I think people are overrating him. He's had plenty of opportunities to show what he can do. If he can't play in D'Antoni's system, then what's next for him?
he produced when he got minutes not great numbers but they were decent.
