Pau Gasol Trade Overrated?
Everyone thinks that the lakers traded kwame brown for gasol, but they gave other players that are now better than expected. They gave Marc Gasol who looks like he has Pau Gasol potential - no joke. They gave away a pick in 2008 which was picked as donte greene who is a decent player with a lot of potential. they also gave away another 1st rounder this year along with kwame brown. now it might not seem like much, but they were able to clear cap space with that trade and rebuild their team. now they may not have won the deal, but it was certainly not pau for peanuts like people suggest it was.
agreed, Marc Gasol is a very talented player who looks like he'll turn into Pau.
I'll give you a point. I've thought the same thing. Little Gasol is a nice player. He's on a selfish team dominated by perimiter players. Also, Donte Green (Syracuse) is getting better really fast.
Dhamp2....the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway
1. PLEASE GIVE ME NEGATIVE POINTS!!!!
2. I'm the Mark Cubanlprotagonist of nbadraft.net
3. I was the first to mention Wesley Johnson, a top 10 pick, on this site.
4. Anyone remember Ryan Blackwell???
5. Carmelo will lead the league in scoring!!!
6. The Lakers will 3-peat
7. I still like San Deigo State's chances in the Mountin West Conference
8. I never will understand how Kobe has 1 MVP and Nash has 2. That's embarrsing on every level.
i agree that marc is good and donte green has a lot of potential but they said they were trying to save money then they bring in zach randolph's giant contract.
Dhamp2 you forgot the "a" and a "s" in embarrassing
its definatley not as lopsided as people think. its funny because i said the same thing wen it happened but not because of marc but because they werent going anywhere with paul and they were gonna pick up cap space. and that kwame might do better there then people thought( that didnt turn out so well
but at the time the trade looked pretty bad. i still feel that, for an all star player, memphis should have gotten more than the rights to a second rounder, some scrubs and a late 1st round pick.
I know one problem with the trade was that there could have been much better players going to memphis right away. Marc Gasol is making memphis look a lot better, but remember the trade at the time. Kwame is a bust, the two first-rounders are so late they aren't much better than 2nd rounders, and Marc Gasol was unproven. At the time there were definitely better-looking offers but now the trade doesn't look as bad.
Well IMO it was a completely even trade, perfect for both sides.
Pau Gasol, 2010 2nd rd pick for Marc Gasol, 2010 1st rd pick, 2008 First rd pick(Darrell Arthur)Javarius Crittenton(traded for grizzlies 1st rd pick), Aaron Mcckie(Capspace), and Kwame Brown(Capspace). So essentially it was Pau Gasol+2nd rd pick for Marc Gasol, Darrell Arthur, 2010 1st rd pick (Lakers), Grizzlies 1st rd pick back from Wizards, and with the capspace they aquired Zach Randolph who IMHO is just as good as Pau ever was in Memphis. So really this was a really smart trade for the Grizzlies as they were going nowhere with Pau.
thats true there were supossedly better offers. but does anyone know what those offers were or are we guessing that there were better offers
i think most people had a problem with it because paul was going to the lakers. the rich was getting richer without giving up much because the lakers gave up basically nothing that they needed
apparently they were about to give them lamar but the grizzlies wanted an expiring contract - kwame instead.
wow...they helped the lakers out on that one. at the time i would have given them lamar because he's so up and down but im glad they didnt
It wasn't a horrible trade. Lots of teams make moves just to dump salary, you just don't see it that much in basketball. It doesn't help that the immediate talent that the Grizz got wasn't much. The draft picks looked bad because everyone knew they would be late picks, but as we have seen there are usually really good players scattered all over the draft. I disagree that Marc plays much like Pau. I think they both play unselfishly, but Marc will never be as good or as athletic. Pau was a 3 when he came over playing and played a lot at the 4 when he got to the NBA. He's bulked up some which has slowed him down, but that has also made him better down low. A team like the Lakers would have been even more amazing if they could have dumped off someone else like Farmar instead of Marc.
The Lakers wouldn't have won the title last year if it wasn't for Pau Gasol.
really, thats all I need to say about this.
thats ture. they wouldnt have wont without kobe or odom either. they al needed each other. thats all i have to say also:)
Memphis got marc and not much else. They could have had the cap space to sign a guy or two anyways it wasn't like Pau is making 30 million a year or something. In the end, it basically crumbles down to Pau for Marc, and I'll take Pau any day.
