I thought of something for Chris Paul
Why not ask for a trade? If he's traded there are about...29 teams who want him.
I say....bring him in, ask him if he would like to be moved. If he says yes- open up trade talks and see what's up.
If he says no....start dealing West and Okafor to add more pieces.
I would do deals like
Chris Paul for Mario Chalmers, Micheal Beasley and 3 1st round picks.
David West and Peja for Shaq
Okafor for Kenny Thomas and Donte Greene.
What do you think?
Did you just say that getting shaq for Dwest would be adding a piece? Wow...
David West and Peja for Shaq is CRAZY lopsided.....lol....an allstar post player and a shooter for an aging bigman who stagnates an offense when chris paul would be better suited to a full court fast paced team rather than running half court sets? You gotta be kidding me
Shaq would be a terrible piece for the Hornets. You never know what your going to get from one night to the next with Shaq. Sometimes he can play 20-25 affective minutes, other nights he struggles playing 15, and not to mention he's old. I think they should have never gotten rid of Tyson Chandler for starters, he fits that team really well. New Orleans is a team that should model itself after the Suns and acquire players that can finish, run the court, or shoot three's.
Some possible players who would fit that mold;
- Samuel Dalembert
- Tyrus Thomas
- Quentin Richardson (believe they had him on draft day?)
- Gerald Wallace (would be a great fit for them)
- Thadeus Young
- Michael Pietrus
...you get the point.
Regarding your other possible acquisitions;
Kenny Thomas may have been a decent pickup if he were a little younger as he can rebound and run the floor, and also spread the floor a little bit. Beasley Im not so sure about, he seems a little streaky for my liking although he could possibly play the Marion type role for the Hornets, and Donte Green wouldn't be too bad of a pickup as a bench player.
Hornet management should look at what they have, realize that Okafor does not fit their team, and use him as a piece to trade. I don't really see any of those scenarios as mentioned in the previous post to really be as beneficial as some others could be,
I think he was saying that since his deal is up it would help them get pieces
how about this trade: it makes a lot of sense for both teams
N.O. trades emeka okafor to O.K.C for thabo sefolosha and nenad krstic
i actually like the trades frazier brought up. Peja is absolutely killing their salary cap right now and the only way the hornets get better is by clearing up space, shaq would do exactly that allowing the hornets to play the free agent market to bring in some help. Losing west is a small price to pay if they could add 2 or 3 quality guys in return. The okafor trade would be similar but to a smaller scale. I think these are solid trade ideas for the hornets and it's not like the hornets are gonna win this year anyways. you guys are looking at these trades like fans, you need to look at it in the grander scheme of things and realize sometimes you have to take a step backwards to take an even bigger step forwards.
T-Mac and Scola for Peja, Okafor, Mo-Pete and Wright
gives houston 2 3 point shooters off the bench, a center until yao returns and then he can slide to pf, and a decent prospect
gives hornets a better big and help for cp3 and also cap relief
you have to look at it as a business man. why would i trade chris when he brings in many fans. sells alot of jersey's for my team, and sells other things that brings in money as well as being a very good player.. its more then just basketball stuff or the players feelings. at the end of the day its still a business to these owners. the shaq trade doesnt make much sense to me since to me because of a couple of things one being that contract that peja has that is gonna eat into clevelands salary which hurts them in getting some big free agent that they are planning to get this summer. that trade for tmac gives the hornets no center. scola is good but hes a good pf and thats where west plays. and west isnt a center. houston can get away with it because of the other plays who play good defense and play hard. the hornets as a team doesnt have that. plus houston likes scola too much
That was well said. Many people on this board overlook the business aspect of being a GM in the NBA. Chris Paul like many other superstars offers more than his game. If Chris Paul were to be traded for young guys, draft picks New Orleans fanfare would drop drastically. No one goes to Hornets games to see anyone but CP3.
t-mac and cook for okafor peja mo pete
i forgot to add that the rockets may not even trade tmac. he has a big expiring contract and i dont think the rockets will get back any contract that will be expiring thats that big. the rockets are in a win win situation. and its known through the leauge that players love houston
heat sends o'neal, richardson, cook
hornets send peja, okafor, mo-pete, wright
rockets send anderson, t-mac, scola
heat gets t-mac, scola, anderson
hornets get o'neal, richardson, cook
rockets get peja, okafor, mo-pete, wright
heat become a run and gun team Scola, Beasley, T-mac, Wade, Chalmers
hornets get better players for there system and cap for 2010, CP3, Cook, Richardson, West, O'neal
rockets get 2 3 point shooters off the bench, a center until yao returns and then he can slide to pf, and a decent prospect Okafor, Landry, Ariza, Budinger, Brooks
do the numbers add up?
ya used trade machine
im not sure they would want wright since he doesnt do anything but clogs up youre pay roll. im not impressed with mo pete. the rockets love scola( they always say him and battier are damn near untouchable) and okafors contract is a tough pill to swallow
Cleveland will only have like 5 or 6 mil in cap room this summer so 'getting some big free agent' is really possible.
im not sure how the salaries work exactly but for those who do here is a link of team salaries
