Memphis (Elliot Williams) vs Syracuse (Wesley Johnson) Jan 6th 2010!

Who ya got!? Two of the premiere teams going head to head.

Wasn't aware Elliot was putting up 20 per game for Memphis (haven't seen them on T.V. since their loss to Kansas). He's been spectacular for the Tigers, and has stepped right in and became their go to scorer. Got to give major props to Coach Josh Pastner, he's done a great job replacing John Calipari at Memphis. He also has a great recruiting class lined up for them next season, so this goes to show you Pastner is the real deal.

Some back story on Mr. Pastner. He made a name for himself coaching (as a teenger if I remember correctly) in the AAU rankings particulary with the Houston Hoops program. Walked on to play ball for Lute Olson in Arizona. Graduated in 2 semesters then joined the Coaching Staff as a grad assistant for Coach Lute and became a disciple of his.

The Memphis hoops program has not missed a beat with Calipari's departure, and their future looks brither than ever with Pastner leading their program.

Syracuse as we all know is a prennenial power in the Big East under Jim Boeheim. I surely wasn't expecting the Cuse to be this good after the departure of Johnny Flynn, Eric Devendorf, and Mike Harris.
Wesley Johnson is probably the new comer of the year in the Big East, and might very well be the league's best player. In his first year at Syracuse, he's already been labeled as the big man on campus, and has a lot of Cuse fans (and some hoop pundits) talking about a Final 4 run this season. Just imagine had Devendorf, and Harris did the right thing and stayed one more year in school!?

With that being said, this is going to be a marquee non conference game. I expect both future NBA players to have a great game, and showcase their skills in the limelight.

Wasn't it Paul Harris? and

Wasn't it Paul Harris? and from what I remember, Boeheim actually pushed for the departure of both Harris and Devendorf by saying that he'd rather have Rautins and Johnson than the two... I'm thinking Cuse is gonna win this as Johnson's cast is way better than William's but it surely will be a great game...
