USC trojans on the rise

They appeared to be just another down pac 10 team to begin the year starting 5-4. But in the past 3 games they have had their mvp Mike Gerrity and their top 6th man in leonard washington return to the lineup to join senior Dwight Lewis and bigs Alex Stephenson and Sasha vucevic who are both averaging double double's. In those 3 games they have routed number 9 tennessee and number 20 UNLV with Gerrity leading the way. Jeff Goodman at foxsports.com has included them in his top 25 rankings and if this keeps up you can bet they will start climbing in many polls. What do you guys think about this team? Can they be a sweet 16 team?

No

He left because of playing time...Something he wouldn't have gotten this year. Glad to see another unc fan on this site lol.

Yes

He would have gotten playing time...But not that much. I would have done the same thing if I were Alex...Transferring really helped his stock. Sitting behind Ed, Deon, Zeller etc. hurts your stock...There is a reason he transferred.

He didn't leave due to lack of playing time

He left because his father has been very ill, and he wanted to be closer to him for that reason alone. He knew the type of talent that attracts North Carolina, and had he stayed, he would've been the first player off the bench to spell both Deon Thompson, and Ed Davis.

As for USC being on the rise, they have caught some teams surprisingly. Mike Gerrity has been the biggest reason to their current success, he's changed the way the offense has flowed. It also helps when you drop 14 points a game like he's been able to do.

Alex has been on a slump as of late, but Leonard Washington, Nikola Vucevic, and Marcus Johnson have all been contributing.

Coach Kevin O'Neil has gotten this team to play some very very stifling defense and have held their opponents to shooting around 30%.

Biggest factor with them is to all stay healthy due to their lack of depth (mass exodus of recruiting class bolting to Arizona). If they can stay away from the injury bug, they should be able to finish top 3 in the PAC-10.

I stand corrected.

You're right...I forgot about that. I was thinking that Elliott Williams was the only one who left because of family illness.

Anyhow, I still think transferring will help out in the long run and USC has been playing very well.

No harm, no foul

I just wish the NCAA had granted him a transfer waiver last season where he wouldn't have had to sit out a year similar to what Elliot Williams has gotten at Memphis (both transfered for the same exact reason).

Just imagine Alex playing alongside Taj Gibson last year. That would've been one of the best defensive front line in the NCAA IYAM. It's also unfortunate Taj was never really able to play alongside another post presence during his time at USC. With that being said, he was never one to complain, and worked extremely hard to get himself picked in the 1st round of the NBA by the Chi-Town Bulls.
