2010 NBA Draft Class: Best Rebounders...
Who are they? Who is the best?
Here is how I rate some of my favorite post players in rebounding:
1. Gani Lawal
2. Derrick Favors
3. Patrick Patterson
4. Cole Aldrich
5. Ed Davis
6. Jarvis Varnado
7. Greg Monroe
8. Larry Sanders
9. Jerome Jordan
10. Solomon Alabi
Gani Lawal is averaging a blistering 16 rebounds per 40 minutes, and he's doing it with second-ranked Derrick Favors alongside him. Patrick Patterson was ranked third because of his offensive rebounding numbers (44% of his rebounds were offensive) and the fact that he is grabbing them with Cousins and Orton down low with him. Aldrich, Davis and Varnado put up nearly identical numbers per 40. Monroe is averaging the second highest rebounds per game (10.3) but he is playing a lot more minutes than anyone else. Sanders and Jordan put up similar numbers. Solomon Alabi is putting up very weak rebounding numbers, at only 6.6 and 10.7 per 40. However 38% of his rebounds were offensive.
Donatas Motiejunas has been a fairly weak defensive rebounder so far this year, but it is tough to measure his ability, because I have never seen him play. Arnette Moultrie is a below average rebounder, despite what this websites rating would lead you to believe, averaging less than Alabi per 40. Same goes for Brackins, though he put up better numbers last year, so we'll see how he rebounds the rest of the season. Cousins and Pittman have put up great numbers, but in limited minutes.
If I had to pick who I think will be the best rebounder on the next level, I would say Derrick Favors. But right now his teammate, Gani Lawal is the best rebounder IMO.
Well that about sums it up lol....I completely agree with that list.
Thank you. I was researching this very subject last night, so I thought I would contribute a little something.
Am I back? Did I ever leave?
No and Yes.
No doubt Gator. I just covered 1st rounders and some of my favorite players.
Art Parakhouski is another top rebounder, for the record.
Damion James is a top rebounder as well, he is 6'7'' and plays small forward yet is averaging over 10.6 per game and is averaging over 10 for the second time in his 4 year career. Pretty impressive for a small forward, including his 15 rebounding performance against top #15 UNC.
I wouldn't consider Jerome Jordan a top rebounder at all, just a vary tall man. For a 7' 250lb center playing in C-USA and only averaging 8.6 rpg is not really impressive at all to me. He is a great shot blocker, but his rebounding for his size is, in my opinion, a little above average. And Frankly Solomon Alabi's 6.6 rpg is just flat out disappointing. I know he plays fewer minutes than a lot of big men, but for a projected lottery guy last spring 6.6 rpg for a 7'1'' athletic center is underwhelming. If you are only going on potential 1st rounders guys like Evan Turner, James, Dexter Pittman, Brackins, and Aminu are all better rebounders than Jordan and Alabi.
gallon is actually a better rebounder then favors. not as athletic but he has better box out techniques
