Brook Lopez: 2nd Best Center Already?!!!

Dang is Brook Lopez already the NBA's second best classic center (that's healthy) not even halfway through his second year? Dude is an absolute beast, doing work while playing for a horrible team. Hopefully in two years Chris-Douglas Roberts won't be the 2nd or 3rd option on that team and Lopez will have plenty of help. Does the fact that Brook is dominating mean that the NBA center position is weak these days or is this guy just that good? Note: Duncan and Stoudamire are NOT true centers, as they played at the 4 for a good portion of their careers.

Couldn't agree more dude.

Couldn't agree more dude. Brook is the 2nd best center in the league.

I know all the Laker fans are going to disagree but honestly Brook is better than Bynum. If the Lakers had Brook they would be hands down the favorite to win the championship in June. He is smarter (much smarter than he interviews--), better defensively, better offensively, and more consistent than Bynum.

The only problem I noticed about Brook is he gets double team ALL the time and turns the ball over sometimes when he is double or tripple teamed--but honestly, what big wouldn't (besides KG, Dirk, Timmy, and Shaq) and he will learn as the season goes forward that he demands the double team solely depending on his position on the floor. He is getting more familiar with it with each game.

If he had any good teammates he wouldn't be doubled teamed every play and could very easily average 25 and 10 with 2.5 blocks a game. Thats sick! He reminds me a lot of Tim Duncan (but slower, and well, not as game changing)

I doubted Lopez's upside

I doubted Lopez's upside before the season and he has proven me wrong. He's at least just as good as Bynum, as he has better stats but he plays on a team that lots of times runs their offense through him, so maybe his stats are kind of accelerated compared to Bynum's, who's usually a 3rd option.

Yeah i agree with iguodala9 he

Yeah i agree with iguodala9 he just as good u cant say he's better than bynum because bynum plays with Kobe, Gasol, and Odom and artest so they all have to get their buckets, Lopez played in a system where he gets the most touched and he basically is the number 1 option some nights bynum might be #2 and others night he could be #4 but lopez is already a top center in this league.

Yea but Brooks stats would

Yea but Brooks stats would be even better if he had a reliable outside threat like Kobe to play with--because Brook wouldn't be double teamed all the time. And nearly every time he plays one on one he gets a score--hence why he is double teamed all the time

He is so efficient that he could get 25 points on 12 attempts if he wasn't doubled teamed. Bynum cannot do this.

Heres my list. Parentheses indicate pf/center combo and not a true center:

Dwight
(Tim Duncan)
Brook
(Al Jefferson)
Bynum
(Nene)
Kendrick Perkins
Chris Kaman
(Al Horford)
Marc Gasol
(Emeka Okafor)
(Joakim Noah)
Shaq
Marcus Camby
(Andrea Bargnani)
Tyson Chandler
Mehmet Okur
Jermaine Oneal
(Rasheed Wallace)
Z
Samuel Dalembert
Spencer Hawes
(Chuck Hayes)
Ben Wallace
Eric Dampier
Nenad Krstic
My sister
Verne Troyer
Lisa Leslie
Stephen Hawkings
Eddy Curry

*Yao, Andris Biedrins, and Oden are injured but they would all be above Marcus Camby...

Could be 2nd best

Not sure Brook Lopez better offensively than Bynum its close but defensively he is.
2nd best well Shaq is aging, Yao, Oden hurt to me Duncan has been a Center since Robinson retired.
Not much left Perkins, Kaman, Noah, Horford, Bynum Okafor, Okur only good Centers besides Howard.

Lopez is so overrated it

Lopez is so overrated it isn't even funny. No rebounding D and absolutely WILL NOT pass back out of the post when he recieves it. You KNOW he's taking the shot when he gets the ball down low. As poor a team as he had this year, he should have been a FAR better rebounder than he was. He isn't even as good a rebounder as Gasol when he played with Memphis.

A centre who averages 6

A centre who averages 6 rebounds in 35+ minutes does not equal 2nd best centre in the league.

I want to know how a guy goes

I want to know how a guy goes from 8-9 boards to 5-6 boards litterally overnight. I hope he can develop into a franchise big though, cause it's not like he totally fell off hte map.

I know this thread is old but

I know this thread is old but I'm really surprised that Andrew Bogut gets absolutely no mention anywhere. If I had to pick any center in the league other than Dwight to anchor my team I would choose Bogut over Lopez in a heart beat.

To me Bogut is like Bynum.

To me Bogut is like Bynum. Both have proven to be terrific players, but neither can stay healthy long enough to show it consistently. Also, I'm still not sure how Bogut has never broke out yet as an All-Star caliber plyer. I rememebr watching him early on and seeing so many skills as he could pass, handle, and shoot. Triple threat all day. D was NOT his meal ticket. Funny how careers go in opposite directions some times. IMO, he shoud be closer to 17-10 than the 12 or 14-10 he gets.

Hell if Brook is 2nd does

Hell if Brook is 2nd does that make Bargs 3rd if we assume that rebounding does not matter. I rate both these guys as scorers but they need the right guy alongside them or maybe in Bargs case he should move over to PF.
