Don't look now, but the Minnesota Timberwolves have found their point guard of the future. Period. Jonny Flynn is ballin big time, but no one is taking notice. He will most likely finish a really distant third in ROY voting, even though his play has easily been in the top half of PG starters especially when you logically consider he's a rookie that hasn't even played 40 games yet. And if Mr. Griffin comes back in January and leaves no doubt why he was picked 1st overall, then its possible J Flynn could finish fourth in voting! The scenario reminds me of the LeBron draft, where Bosh an all-star, is considered the FOURTH best player in that draft. I think it shows that 2009's draft may not be as weak as a lot of people were saying.
I've seen all of Flynn's games and love his game.
He's just getting started in the NBA, his upside is going to be pretty big. He has the speed ability to get the cup. I don't think the triangle fits his offense well, but I also think rambis will start to trust him more and more to create and let him run the offense more to his liking and to his strengths.
He's shown pretty good range on his 3 ball, and the ability to create for his teammates, his assist totals should be higher, but he's often dishing the ball to the likes of Corey Brewer who can't make a 15 footer to save his life.
I've said it time and time again, I like him more than Rubio. I've watched about every game Rubio has played this year on nbatv and online streams. I prefer Flynn, he's a natural born leader, can score the ball and pass the ball. That game winning shot over Deron in Utah, showed he has some guts to take the last shot and wants the ball in those situations.
I think he can be a very good point guard in the nba. I think in time he will close the gap between himself and Jennings. Although I don't think either of them will ever catch up with Evans the combo guard, he's just too good!
hotshot how far off assuming Minny gets a ROY contender in the 2010 draft do you think they are? I say about three years from now, they will be playoff contenders.
I think Jonny Flynn has a chance to be an All-Sta level player...I said it during the summer leading up to the draft, but he reminds me of a poor man's Chris Paul. He's of course not that level a passer, but he's going to be mentioned with the better PG's in the game with his mix of talent and leadership. He's as tough as they come and has that "it" factor about him that will make him a great player down the line...
Twolves have a bright future in my opinion if some luck goes there way and they ( david kahn ) makes some good personnel moves.
The guys you build around
- Jonny Flynn ( can be a borderline All star, 18 and 8 type of player in a couple years )
- Kevin Love ( he could lead the league in rebounding, he's a rebounding freak, added 3 ball to his game)
- Al Jefferson ( check out his last 6-8 games he's back, although could be trade bait for position of need.
Guys who have value for your team or in trade
- Ricky Rubio ( arguably one of best prospects in world, special vision)
- Nikolai Pekovic ( very good PF/C good trade bait asset, not a position of need for wolves
- Likely a top 3 pick in 2010 draft ( Wall, favors, turner, johnson) caliber player
- Utah pick top 17 protected
- Bobcats top 12 protected.
So in theory...they could look like this next yera.....
- Johnny flynn/sessions ( rubio chilling in Europe)
- Evan Turner
- Rudy Gay ( FA)
- Kevin Love
- Al Jeffferson
I think that lineup has some serious potential, when you factor in the other pieces ( draft picks, rubio, pekovic and players you can keep or trade).
I think the Twolves are a interesting team, not just because they are my own team, but the next 12 months will be huge for them, via Draft ( potentially 3 1st round picks ) and lots of money in FA. Also will they trade Rubio/Pekovic factors into their plans. I think they have a chance to be a up and coming team like the Thunder if they get some luck/smart moves pan out.
bosh still is the fourth best player of that draft isnt he? and yeah i like flynns game hes doing well. curry is doing almost as well. he only averages 3 less points on 66 less attempts
James Johnson is going to be the Dwyane Wade of this draft.
lol...please tell me that was a joke
to get noticed he needs to have a great scoring night, thats really the only way for rookies to get noticed
FLYNN has been solid all season..Much better than many expected..plus he's so mature for a rookie..But he hasnt did anything thats had the league talking like Evans & Jennings have...Evans who's averaging 20 points-5 rebounds-5 assists..the only other guys to do that are Jordan,Lebron & Oscar Robertson...Jennings scored 55 earlier this year..that had him the talk of the league..stations were canceling games they had planned to show..Just to show Evans & Jennings games
It was David Kahn's original plan to take Evans at 5 and Flynn at 6 because he thought the Kings were taking Rubio at 4.
Jonny Flynn=Isaiah Thomas
at first i was gonna call you crazy blanco then i realized you are talking about the thomas at washington
