Wesley Johnson=Demitris Nichols
I haven't seen Wesley play a lot but from what I've seen of him and what I read on this site, they sound kinda alike. I'm really just trying to figure him out so, could someone tell me what's so special because so far he hasn't impressed me.
wesley johnson is more athletic and attacks the basket more than nichols did. He can also shoot it as well as nichols and has way better defense.
-can shoot midrange and 3 ball
-can rebound the ball very well
- has a 42 inch vertical and the ability to play above the rim
- Seems very unselfish, doesn't force shots, gets the ball to his big men down low
- Blocks a fair amount of shots for a guy his size
- Plays good defense.
He's a top 10 talent, not sure about top 5 though.
okay so pretty much athleticism and his ability to attack the rim separate them. because even if you read nichols assesment on here it says all of the same things except he isn't an explosive athlete and he's not that great at driving the lane
I wouldn't consider them to be the same type of player. Nicholes shot the 3 ball good but isn't as quick as Johnson. If you want to compare him to someone you can compare his game to the Matrix. He's long, fast, atheletic, can shoot, play defensie and is a hustler. The only think is, Johson's shot looks a heck lot better than Matrix.
Dont get me wrong, nichols was a very good player and contributor when he was at cuse, but there games arent really similar, they both could shoot well, but thats about it, Wes plays better D, more athletic, better passer, attacks better, longer, faster, and just an all around better player. I mean if you wanna say there games are similar because they do the same things on the court and Wes just does them better thats fine. But when I see Wes play i dont think of D-Nich at all.
naw he doesnt shoot it like nic did. but he does have a better overall game at this point then nic had when he was in college
the comparison fits but wesley is more aggresive.
Ok let me get this out to anyone who respects an opinion from a syracusian. Wesley Johnson first off is the truth. He's everything and then some for this Syracuse program and I'm a Uconn fan working for the university. In terms of comparison he's the middle ground between what Carmelo Anthony and John Wallace were to that program. I have yet to see a player bring this much excitement to a team that desperately needs it with one player alone. Johnson is a do all stud that despite being a tweener in NBA standards will have a long and solid NBA career. I think a really good comparison is a more post oriented Wilson Chandler with the Hype. The guys got one of the best three point shots I've seen come out of this school. Athletic freak and enjoys playing in the post getting his rebounds and blocks. A fantasy monster waiting to happen. In the right system he could be the second coming of Shawn Marion and that's downright scary. A buddy of mine works for the coaching staff and just tells me every time I get to talk to him how much better his games gotten from the moment he walked on campus. For anyone that doesn't buy the hype on this guy you will sadly regret it later. Budding talent just waiting to showcase himself. His chances of coming back next year are slim to none, but for the time being he's everything and then some as far as expectations.
Wesley Johnson's quickness and athleticism separate him from Nichols, who is basically a player that hangs around the perimeter and always shoots jumpers. Nichols has a very nice shot, but Johnson is nearly at or right there with him in shooting, and better at everything else. I like Johnson as a mix of Danny Granger and Shawn Marion..
okay thanks for this because i've been pretty much trying to figure the dude out, and from all this it seems as he's not as good a shooter yet, he's more athletic and more aggressive.
He's better than people give him credit for.The Upside is just unreal with this guy though. Plays the game with a great passion in Boeheims 2-3 zone. Will go no lower than 5th in this years draft.
The Marion comparisons are spot on if drafted in the right system....Wesley Johnson is what Demetris Nichols should have been. Nichols was a top 15 player coming out of high school who largely failed in college. He was known as a slasher but transformed his game in a jump shooter and threee-point specialist. Wesley Johnson is both!
Dhamp2...the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway.
I brought Wesley Jonhson to the website and dubbed him a top 10 pick.
Bring back Jason Hart and Sherman Douglas.
Anyone seen Ron Seiklay's 20-something year-old wife???
