Westbrook

Is Russel Westbrook going to get handle of the PG position, he hasn't yet, he had a couple of successful nights, but not more, what do you guys hink?
I'm a big fan of his, but he still is too raw, and no midrange game

i seem to be the odd man out

i seem to be the odd man out in here, i don't think russel westbrook is an allstar ever. but i do think he is a very solid player and great defender. as for his shooting ability they suplement his lack of range with good shooters else where with harden, durant, jeff green, and nenad has ok range for a center.

Be careful... On this site... 95% of the weights are on the Westbrook side of the bench press bar right now lol.

I think he'll be an all-star eventually, but I too think he's a little too hyped up. He's playing well and so is his team right now, but he's still out of control, turnover prone and can't shoot a lick.

He's playing alot better

He's playing alot better than rose who everybody wants to say is a for sure superstar! He has the swag that rose doesnt thats why he will be an allstar and also thats why he's out of control sometimes

This thread was titled

This thread was titled "Westbrook" not "Rose vs Westbrook". We debate about that all the time. It's starting to grow grey hairs.

I was never sold on

I was never sold on Westbrook as a star... He is way out of control, makes stupid plays from a pg's standpoint, has a shakey game, and has a hard time than you'd expect finishing in traffic....I am bamboozled by people saying he is better or will ever be better than Rose.

But how about Durant, I think this guy should be in the MVP "conversation" as of now.

I get a kick out of the

I get a kick out of the people who are making it like Westbrook has made some huge jump this season. I mean, he's STILL shooting less than 40 percent. He's averaging slightly more turnovers than he did last season. He's still out of control and makes questionable decisions from the point guard position. He has questionable shot selection and doesn't finish as well as he should considering his athleticism. I mean, his numbers are pretty much the same accross the board as last season, except he's averaging one more assist.

His numbers are not THAT much better than Rose's. The only difference is Westbrook is averaging a little over one assist and rebound more per game. I think it says something about two players when they're both averaging close to the same numbers, but one is getting criticized while the other is getting praised. That tells you that majority of people view Rose as the superior player because they hold him to higher expectations.

no its just westbrook is

no its just westbrook is winning in a tough conference and brings great defense no matter whats going on and rose hasnt done that. Also this is only his second season as a lead guard. Plus he wasnt suppose to be close to rose just yet or even in the convo thats why he gets praise

OKC is winning in a tough

OKC is winning in a tough conference led by Kevin Durant. OKC is playing great team defense. The coaching staff and players have all committed to that end. Westbrook is on a winning team, but don't make it like he's soley responsible. Please tell me an area of Westbrook's game where he has noticeably improved.

Rose's rough start and struggles have been well documented at this point, but let's not get carried away. He's still the superior player and the fact he's not having a breakout year is surprising to everyone. That should tell you something about how people view him.

no the fact that westbrook

no the fact that westbrook is being talked about with him shows the player westbrook is. he is running the team better and trying to make plays thats why he's turning it over you have to love a guy that plays as hard as him and is new to the position. you just love rose tezo83 you might still even thing rose is better than jennings? Westbrook has heart and will try to take over games which a lot of young guys dont try to do. Also gordon was winning games for the bulls and rose got a lot of the credit last year. You see the difference this year dont you. his shooting is better but he takes bad shots sometimes due to the fact he tries to make plays unlike rose

You're a self-admitted big

You're a self-admitted big fan of Rose. You're just hard on him because you think you're giving him tough love or something lol. Stop trashing him. You can acknowledge Rose isn't playing up to your expectations without trashing him.

Westbrook is having a better season than Rose at this point, but stop making it like Westbrook has made some huge jump or something. Truthfully... He's only playing slightly better than he was last season. Tell me how he's improved. How long are we going to continue making excuses for Westbrook's turnovers and out of control play? How long are we going to criticize Rose for his jumpshot, but ignore the fact that Westbrook is shooting less than 40% for the second season in a row? How long are we going to say Westbrook is more athletic than Rose, but he doesn't finish nearly as well around the rim as Rose does?

The NBA and fans in general hold Rose to higher expectations because they view him as the superior player. Their numbers are similar. However... Rose is failing expectations, while Westbrook is playing great! That should tell you something lol.

ya'll know what.. i just

ya'll know what.. i just noticed that none of the soph's have really made a real big jump from last year. its been a slight jump for each but not one has made that big soph jump. i do think alot has to do with how great they played in there rookie years and its harder to make a big jump when you had such a good first year. i think brook is the only one off the top of my head who has made a big jump.....and cdr. there are probably more but thats all i can think of off the top of my head

the reason westbrook fg% is

the reason westbrook fg% is low is because he doesnt shoot all that well but he will shoot jumpers and 3's. Im not saying he's a star but he will be and I do like roses skills but he lacks that swag to take over and that will hold him back until he feels he is a great player. We can say how good he is all we want but he has to play like he knows he's good that how westbrook plays and thats what i love about him. Thats the diff from a great player and a good 1 they think they are great iverson turned the ball over his whole career and shot a low % but he was a star same with jason kidd its about how you play more than your numbers with me

You're right... Not too many

You're right... Not too many sophs have made that huge jump, but a lot of them have improved certain weaknesses, etc.

What weakness has Westbrook improved? He's still turnover prone, out of control, makes poor decisions and shoots less than 40%.

im not sure how much of a

im not sure how much of a star rose really wants to be after reading his comments on hoopshype about he feels he shouldnt have to shoot alot and doesnt want to because thats not what a pg is suppossed to do. he said a pg is suppossed to pass and get others into the game. and yea he is right about that but at the same time they need someone to step up and take over and he doesnt seem to want to do that. i was kind of shocked to hear him say that but at the same time i remeber hearing people say he was like that back in his highschool days as well. he's have some games where he wouldnt score but 6 points because he wanted to get others involved

Marc Gasol. He has made a

Marc Gasol. He has made a big jump this year.. Also I think that Anthony Ranolph has too.

Anyways back to the Westbrook thing. I think that he is solid, but not a star. I see where you guys are going when it comes to the comparison with russ v rose. The thing is, since Ben Gordon had left, the team then belonged to number 1 pick and rookie of the year last year Rose. Now, as their supposedly number one option, his numbers are worse than the number 3 option on the Thunder. Plus Westbrook is playing against better players. Ok I see what you mean there.

Personally, I think that they both are going to be solid, maybe all star in Rose's sake just because he's in the east, but I don't think that they are going to be that great of players. I love Westbrook's tenacity, and athleticism, but Rose basically has that much athleticism as well, he only shows flashes of it where Westbrook shows it most of the time. Rose has a lot more control with the ball in his hands and can get to the rim with ease. Both have a hard time finishing in the trees, but it they usually get to the line.

They both have flaws and both have strengths. Weaknesses are jump shooting for both of them, turnovers for russ and free throw shooting for rose. They both can shift it into a whole other gear that no one else in the league has. I'd say that they both are going to be solid, but I'm not sold on either of them being 'Stars'

Rose's personality is

Rose's personality is different than Westbrook's so you have to accept him for that. His style of play is different than Westbrook's. You can't get confused and say that Rose doesn't have confidence in himself, which is basically what you're trying to say. Rose has that confidence. He's just too unselfish. Rose will never be the "live wire" type player Westbrook is. You can't confuse that with inner confidence. You have to know the difference between not having confidence and being too unselfish.

Right now... Everything is going well for Westbrook. Superstar teammate, very good teammates, underrated coaching staff, etc. The Bulls are struggling right now... As an entire team. Rose needs help.

I'm disappointed at Rose's start and will admitt that Westbrook is playing better right now, but I'm still confident that he'll eventually be the 3rd best point guard in the NBA behind Paul and Williams. I'm going to stick to that. You keep on being wishywashy.

Brook Lopez has made a HUGE

Brook Lopez has made a HUGE jump he is close to being a 20ppg 10 reb guy and you can throw in 2 blks... I think he is the best center in the EAST in 3 years (yes better than DHoward).... But Westbrook is having a decet season PG is one of the hardest position in all of sports to play and it think Westbrook is holding his own for a 21 year old PG...
