Answer this question
We all know LeBron James will continue to put up insane stats throughout his career. 30-32 points, 7-8 rebounds, 7-8 assists, 1.5-2 steals and 1.5-2 blocks. He'll be in the running for the MVP award every season. They'll have to find reasons not to give it to him. He's an All-Star lock until he retires. An All-NBA First Team lock until he retires. Maybe even a lock for the defensive team too considering the way they're voting now. We know he'll win at least one or two DPOY awards. LeBron will achieve every honor a player can receive. We all know it's only a matter of time before he starts breaking major records set by the greats. We already know he's going to be a hall of famer. It's **arguable** that if he retired now, he could make it. Here's my question...
How many rings does LeBron need to win before he's considered the greatest to ever play? How many will it take for FANS to put him on a pedastal above Jordan?
I'll put it like this if LeBron is a CAV for his whole career then no way will he ever be mentioned in the same breath as Jordan.
LeBron has to win at least 6 rings. I don't see him winning any in Cleveland.
Based on pure talent alone and his body james is basically the perfect player. From a basketball team part he'll never win 6 championships so lets not even think he'd do that. I think him winning like 3 championships in my opinion would be enough. Hes gunna have the best indivdual records for a player ever with people comeing close in some categories but never in all. The game is played differently now. Repeat champions are going to be hard to find with the level of talent on each team and how athletic some of these dudes are getting. And yes lebron would be in the hall of fame if he retired right now thats how scary he is. Going by individual talent i already have lebron in like the top 5 of ballers all time once he gets a champion ship he'll be considered one of the best nba players ever
To be considered the greatest EVER. As in, not one of the top 10, not one of the top 5...Hell not even one of the top 3 players. To be the greatest ever, or in my opinion have a valid argument for him he's going to need 5+ rings. I think 5 is close enough to MJ's 6 that it could be said he was as good if not better than MJ.
There's so many variables going into this though...How many seasons does he play? Does he ever team up with someone of Pippen's caliber? If he does, I'd say he might have to win 6 rings at least.
He'll win another MVP or two, that's not a problem but in the end the bar for greatness is measured in championships and LeBron will need to win plenty to even be considered in the discussion. I say 5+ and you could make a case he's the greatest ever.
i would say atleast three in his prime then another one around his earlier to mid 30 to show he can still be the man when his athleticism starts to leave him
i dont see why he cant win it with the cavs....people said the same thing about jordan and the bulls before they got the players they needed..its still possible for the cavs to get freeagents and or trades and get the players they need..they have been to the title game and id run through teams last year as well so its not impossible
See with the question are we going by greatest nba player ever or best basketball player ever. Because theirs things onn the court Lebron can do that no1 else in the world can do. Kobes game is alot like jordans but i dont see anyones game in the coming years even having a game close to Lebrons because of how perfect his genetics are. I like italians description of saying he needs 1 when his athleticism starts to slow but i think even when it does he'll still be the most athletic player out their anyways
I think he has to win either 5 or 6 to be considered better than Jordan. I think he'll do it, and I think Lebron will go down as the best player to ever player after his career. I really do. He'll have the numbers to do it, and he basically has no real weakness as a player, other than he falls asleep on the ball occasionally on D. I still think at this point he's an above average defender on the ball, and downright unbelievable off the ball on D.
Personally, if LeBron wants to win in Cleveland. The whole Cavalier team has to changed. He is not going anywhere with a supporting cast of Varejao/West. Cavs need a great secondary option on their team that can win them games.
i wonder why he has to win more titles or the same amount of titles then jordan in order to be better then him even though russell has one more titles then jordan?..isnt better player suppossed to be just like it sounds, better player?
I can't deny the numbers or productivity he puts up, but can we hold of the HOF convo for LeBron until he's at least close to retirement. People had Grant Hill and Penny in the HOF rightfully so but longevity, constancy, in addition to stats has to play a part of this. Do I think he'll be a HOF player hell yeah just turn on the TV. But If he wants to be considered a GOAT he needs to obliterate the NBA records books and accumulate several chips plain and simple.
By the way MJ dominated a big mans league as a guard back when the League had great/quality bigs.
I know a lot of people mention rings, but is 5 rings really close to MJs 6 or are 6 rings even equal to MJs 6? Why do I ask this? Because of the years MJ took off from the sport. Not from injury, but retirements and baseball. The Houston Rockets were an awesome team, but they should have sent MJ a couple of those rings because the Bulls wouldn't have lost a championship.
I want to see LeBron staying and winning in Cleveland... The Cavaliers have had its misfortunes in the past and it's LeBron who took them up higher than the Jordan-tortured Cavs in the 80's and 90's... I think it's crazy people saying he can't win a title in Cleveland because I know in my mind that he can... He is capable... He just needs to mature a little bit and stop off from being a dancing clown and invent things such as crab dribble to focus on things like championships because it does show that they're lacking focus on their drive... To be considered as the greatest, there is a possibility he will be... He will produce more stats than MJ will ever have when it's all said and done but to be considered as the greatest, he has to duplicate what MJ has accomplished which goes saying like he needs to climb Mount Everest, Mount Fuji and dive from the Niagara Falls...
Fizer- Why do you think he can win a title in Cleveland?
lets not forget how many championships chicago won before MJ got there so its not impossible to think lebron can win in cleveland. plus i think it would help if he won in cleveland and make his own legacy
Why can't they win? Their obviously trying, even though they screwed themselves and their future by not getting young players to grow togther with LeBron, but they have benn trying to get better any way they can. If LeBron resigns it will be maybe 1 or 2 yrs and then they will just go on from there. He will constantly put the pressure on them.
Reasons why LeBron won't win a title with Cleveland:
1. Varejao will be starting at PF for the next 5 years or so
2. Lack of young talent
3. Mediocre role players
4. No true #2 option (No Pippen or No dominant Big)
5. They are never going to have any high draft picks
6. Just because LeBron puts pressure on them doesn't mean they are going to make the right moves. So far they have been signing the Wrong players.
7. Mediocre guards...West, Mo, Gibson (When will they get an upgrade?
8. Big Z & Shaq gone after this season. That leaves a huge void to fill at the Center position. Who are they going to sign?
9. Cleveland really isn't an attractive place for free agents to want to sign there.
10. Coaching (below average)
That is just 10 reasons off the top of my head.
There is more to it than that... I think it's pretty ridiculous to looks at things like that and say they can never win a championship. There are so many factors that play into it that can you really just list a whole bunch of reasons and say thats why they cant win?
First of all...luck is a major major factor. Weather you agree or not. Then you need a great player....check, and they have the best one......and eve though their team looks mediocre on paper, LeBron makes everyone better on the court....I think they have enough to get the job done.
Fair enough...I agree luck is involved.
Take this year for example: I just don't see the Cavs beating Orlando, Boston, Lakers, or the Spurs in a 7 game series. I really think the Hawks & Mavs would beat them too.
I'd like to elaborate when you said no Pippen type of player and it's true... I think the 2004 Draft was a big blow in front of their face... The 10th pick they had was wasted instead of going after Josh Smith who could have been "Scottie" to LeBron's Jordanship... But I think they are still going to win a championship even if it doesn't mean this year... True, Varejao doesn't deserve that contract but I think with a deal where they can play cops and robbers just like Zach Randolph going to NYK thing where every Knick fan thought they robbed Portland... If they can pull off that kind of trade scenario then yes, they will be able to find a big time fish to help LeBron...
I don't like the cav roster and I think they were fooling themselves with how succesful their season went last year. However, they have proven willing to spend money and make moves to build around LeBron. No real reason they couldn't do something in the future to get him that second guy or just a better all around roster.
Wow...Josh Smith & LeBron playing together. Now that would be fun to watch. Talk about some shots being blocked haha.
True... you never know. They could pull off a lopsided trade. They really should be trying to see if they can get a solid player by trading away Big Z's expiring contract.
It is just hard for me to imagine them winning a title with weak links at every position except SF. Well I guess in reality even though Mo is overrated some he is still a solid pro.
Maybe they can get lucky with their late 1st pick in the 2010 draft. Maybe they can find a steal.
Plus who knows about Eyenga (their 1st round pick in 09). He might end up being a solid contributor. Even though right now that looks like a bad pick. They sure could use Dejuan Blair.
Cleveland has to start making better decisions regarding the Draft, Free Agents, & Trades.
"Wow...Josh Smith & LeBron playing together. Now that would be fun to watch. Talk about some shots being blocked haha."
Exactly my idea... The two of them would just jump out of the building night in and night out had they teamed up together... Such a shame Danny Ferry drafted a scrub with the 10th pick... Imagine LBJ and J-Smoove teaming up and would average 10 bpg with just the two of them... That would be sicker than sick...
