Pau Gasol

I was talking to a friend as we watched some basketball. We saw D-Howard play basketball, posting up and I wondered : Who's the best big man in the game? My Boy said "D-How easy"

I looked at him. I asked my dad and he said " Dirk- Too Easy of a question young one" I chuckled and said...I'm leaning towards Pau Gasol.

The Room Stopped, TV went off and we had a 40 min discussion about this.

What are your thoughts? I feel Pau Gasol is overall the best Big in the game right now....what yall think?

Yes

It has to be Pau...When I watch Pau, I feel like he knows everything going on around him. He know's exactly where to be, exactly when to make the pass. Might have the best basketball smarts in the NBA. He's teaching his brother well too.

I think paul is good but i

I think paul is good but i still think Garnett is the best in the game. Looking at his stats u wouldnt think so but he doesnt need the big numbers anymore. I find him to be just a good a passer as gasol. His range on his shot is even deeper, is able to play full court d and guard multiple people still. On pure offense its easily Dirk and then CB4

It's close, but Dirk is the best big man in the game right now. Followed by Pau Gasol and then Chris Bosh.

I still have mad respect for KG and Timmy, but they've had major knee injuries (while in their 30's) and they just can't do it as consistently as they used to.

Tim duncan he still gets you

Tim duncan he still gets you 19, 11, 3 dimes, and 1.5 blocks on bad knees he has the best skills and iq of all the bigmen in the game. It cant be dirk, gasol, or bosh cuz they dont bring the same intensity on defense. I love gasols skills tho maybe second or 3rd right now but he get scored on too easy some times unlike duncan

This isn't a career question

This isn't a career question though. This is who's better right now. Truth is... Gasol has man'd up since being punked by KG and Perkins in the 2008 Finals.

And Perkins isn't a scrub by any means.

Hes not the same but hes

Hes not the same but hes still a better overall player this just isnt about offense you have to play defense also and no bigman plays defense like duncan except kg. I would take duncan as my main bigman right now in any series agaist anybody cuz i know hes going to bring passion on both ends and he's a winner

its not just about numbers

its not just about numbers and gasol defene has been pretty good. duncan doesnt dominate or win games like he used to. actually i cant really argue if you put duncan over gasol. my opinion is a lil biased since i am a laker fan

its hard question

but its CERTAINLY not dwight howard, the guy's engine is on and off..he doesnt go hard 100% of the time

my ranks:

1) Chris Bosh-consistent scorer with incredible upside (25-10 capabilities)
2) Pau Gasol/Dirk Nowitzki TIE...cant make up my mind, both have unique skills and are phenomenal
3) Tim Duncan-fundamentally sound big man knows how to win
4) Dwight Howard-athleticism is only taking him so far
5) KG...high FG% shooter but his skills are not as high as they once were

then yao ming, carlos boozer, amare stoudemire, andrew bynum, brook lopez, etc.

Watch Duncan... It's not

Watch Duncan... It's not hard to see that he's not as good defensively. He's not as quick laterally nor does he have the same core strength. He lost like 10-15 lbs over the summer and is not as strong as he used to be. He's just an old savy/veteran defender now. Nothing special. He's still a good/smart defender, but can't control the paint like he used to.

Bosh

Bosh is pathetic on defense...He is not the best big man. Hate to say it but that guy is over-rated. He'll get his, but he isn't going to get you anywhere in April and forward...Top 10 yes, top 5 probably not...

coming into this season, i

coming into this season, i was saying duncan. I always respect what he does for his team and i thought he would bounce back after being beat in the first round last year. But he's just not the same anymore. KG is still great, but hard to say he is a number one option. It could be argued for either of those guys as well as Pau, Dwight and Dirk. If I had to pick one, it would be Dirk just slightly. But Pau is so efficient at everything. He shoots a high percentage from anywhere on the court and with both hands. He also got much tougher last season playing DHoward straight up in the finals. He has had 20 rebounds in each the past 2 games and all this while being on a team that shares the ball among Kobe, Bynum, and Artest.

Too tough to call

We can claim a lot who's the best big man right now... Pau Gasol, to me, has the highest basketball IQ among big men... He is not that athletic but boy, his skills make up for that lack of vertical leap... Such a smart player... Tim Duncan can still be in the list as one of the best but he has been injured much of lately and is slowly declining in terms of production.. KG can't be considered the best big anymore due to the fact that he has "brotherhood" in Beantown which limits his production because all he wants to focus is winning...
