If the Thunder didn't draft Westbrook...

I know that there's alot of people in love with Westbrook, but I'm not sold for the long term. Sure he's athletic, but he isn't a pure pg and his shooting and TOs are atrocious. If he has a big night dishing it out, he almost always goes like 1-11 from the floor.

Instead of taking Westbrook in the 2008 draft, what if the Thunder had taken Brook Lopez? I just think Lopez (with his size, rebounding, and blocks) would've been the perfect compliment to Jeff Green.

Then in the 2009 draft, the Thunder could have taken Ricky Rubio. Which lineup is more exciting and has more potential?

Krstic
Green
Durant
Sefolosha/Harden
Westbrook

OR

Lopez
Green
Durant
Sefolosha
Rubio

In the second scenario, they would still have needed shooting. But what if they had signed Ben Gordon as a FA? That team would be scary for a long time.

Way too early to tell

It's still too early in RW's career to determine if it was the correct pick or not. While I agree that he isn't the prototypical PG he has a ton of athletic ability and upside. Clearly center is a major area of need for OKC and Lopez would provide a significant upgrade over Kristic. I think Tyreke would have been the pick over Rubio if that was the case though and Presti would never have spent big money on Ben Gordon, an undersized 2 guard who can't play defense. They most likely would have taken someone like Wayne Ellington over Mullens with their 2nd first rounder last year. OKC still has plenty of opportunities to shape their roster though as they have a lot of cap room and 2 first rounders again this year with a lot of good big men available. I think ideally they would like to find a way to move up in the draft (probably trading both of their first rounders and maybe an expiring contract of a young player like BJ Mullens, DJ White, or Serge Ibaka) in order to select Cole Aldrich. With a lineup like that they could be a serious contender in the Western Conference for years to come.

lol i dont think drafting

lol i dont think drafting russel westbrook was a bad idea, he fits the style of the OKC team, athletic, quick, run n gun kinda team so i think he fits well with them and is a good 2nd scoring option as seen in the playoffs vs the lakers..all they need to do is sign a C from free agency sum1 like brendan haywood wudnt be too bad and that team is set for the future...

westbrook
harden
durant
green
haywood

niceeeeeeeeeeeee

You Can Always Second guess the draft

There are so many good players who develop based on situation. lets go back further, to the 2007 draft and redraft every pick the thunder have had, who would you take.

2007- 2nd KD 5th Noah
2008- 4th Kevin Love, 25 Serge Ibaka 31st L.R mbah a Monde, 38, Anthony morrow (kyle weaver trade)
2009 - 3rd Steph Curry, 25th Jonas Jerebko 54th Wesley matthews
2010 - 10th cole Aldrich, 31 pleiss

Current Lineup

PG Curry SG Matthews SF Kevin Durant PF Kevin Love C Joakim Noah
Bench
PG Maynor SG morrow G/F Sefalosha SF LR MaM F jerebko F/C Ibaka
F/C collision G Cook SG peterson C kristic

While this team would be different, and probably better. they don't look that much better.
