Doesnt everyone remember when Lebron James told the world he would be in the Dunk Contest this year?? Now, he is like 50/50. Is he scared he would get beat??

LeBron James backs off 2010 dunk contest guarantee
By J.E. Skeets
So, according to the Associated Press, LeBron James(notes) is having second thoughts about participating in the 2010 Slam Dunk Contest over All-Star Weekend. To which I say, great. What's next? LeBronezer going to cancel Christmas, too? You know he has the power to, right?
"I'm like 50-50 right now," LeBron told reporters Wednesday night before the Cavaliers crushed the Phoenix Suns. "I don't know if you can get it back to the 80s and like in '98 when Vince (Carter) was in it. It was more about the dunks and less about what was going on around the dunks. We'll see what happens."
This, of course, comes after James said at last year's event that he planned to dunk during the 2010 festivities in Dallas. Apparently, The King got caught up in the Superman/Lil' Lex Luthor excitement when delivering his proclamation to Cheryl Miller. Must have been that yellow Hogwarts cardigan.
In case you couldn't tell by the tone of my type, I side with Matt Moore at NBA FanHouse on this one: Unless James wants to further damage his public relations capital before the biggest summer of his financial life — see: refusing to shake hands with the Orlando Magic in the playoffs, Nike DunkGate '09, the egocentric MVP shirts, etc. — he needs to man up and throw down.
And oh, VC participated in the 2000 contest in Golden State. I bet Shannon Brown knows that.

lebron doesnt need the dunk contest. if he enters he will automatically win and thats just all there is too it.
Tyrobar's right. He'll win based on name [just like he did at the McD's contest], not 'cause of what he can do. He'd actually be a horrible contest dunker 'cause he doesn't have a lot in his bag. The only good I can see coming out of him being in is it potentially getting the "stars" back into it like it was during the 80's. And, yes, I think he's scared that the NBA wouldn't automatically hand him the 'W' and it would knock him down a peg. He carefully guards his image and does not like to look bad. But, when he does he comes across as a giant baby. See the playoffs, crab dribble, or that summer dunk video confiscation for proof.
That McDonald's All-American dunk contest was almost 7 years ago lol. Have you guys been to a real game and watched what LeBron does during warm-ups? Dude is amazing. He can do it all.
Him being "scared" has nothing to do with it. I just think it's the fact that everything dunking wise has been done and it's no longer about the dunks anymore... Now it's more about performing, etc and I think LeBron doesn't want to get into all of that.
Dude, what's "amazing" about his dunks other than he gets high off the left leg? He doesn't jump near as well off two, he's not that creative and his dunks are simple. Evey dunk Lebron would do we've already seen him do in games. HE IS NOT A CONTEST DUNKER.
I've been to every Pacers vs Cavs game since LeBron was drafted and he's always gotten creative with it during warmups. Here are a couple of links to some pre-game dunks.
This isn't Quincey Hodges saying that Mayo should be in the dunk contest here lol. This is LeBron James. He probably has a 40+ vertical and elite timing. He does favor that left leg (doesn't mean he can't jump off two), but that's one powerful ass left leg. Jason Richardson struggles dunking off of one leg, but he's done pretty well in dunk contests.
Lebron is now running scared becuase it is almost here. Last year it was a year away now it is only 3 months away. He will chicken out and not go in even if he did he would lose.
You just proved my point. Both of the vids you posted were extremely simple dunks. The most creative parts of those were done while he was still on the ground. Comparing Richardson and James is absurd. Richardson does struggle off of one but he's a creative, powerful dunker with a deep bag of tricks. James has a launch pad left leg but does nothing but simple dunks over and over and doesn't jump well off of two.
