Sporting news picks top 50 NBA Players
call me a hater but I don't think Howard belongs in the top 5. Maybe top 10, but I think he is vastly overrated. And Durant needs to be moved into the top 10 if u ask me. The Thunder are playing great ball and he is 4th in the league in scoring and has stepped up his all around game immensely.
5. Tim Duncan, PF, Spurs Right now? Really? That's in your top 5 for this season????
7. Kevin Garnett, PF, Celtics Still pretty good but not 7
16. Shaquille O’Neal, C, Cavaliers HA!
22. Manu Ginobili, SG, Spurs
23. Jason Kidd, PG, Mavericks
24. Tracy McGrady, SG, Rockets All 3 of these guys ahead of Joe Johnson? How is McGrady even in the top 35?
28. Gilbert Arenas, PG, Wizards
29. Ron Artest, SF, Lakers
30. Vince Carter, SG, Magic
31. Danny Granger, SF, Pacers Look at this grouping. Granger is below them? NO
After this it all gets pretty debatable and you can make argument for certain players being higher than others based on position...
I have too many problems with this list. First, Melo should be higher than number 9. Dwight Howard isn't number 4, maybe 10. And Garnett is no longer number 7. But at least someone tried to put a list together. You can't do such a list and avoid criticism.
I do like Amare at 19, lol. He's averaging 6 rebounds.
Dhamp2...the greatest basketball mind in the world. Next to Hubie Brown anyway.
1. Carmelo will lead the NBA in scoring.
2. Dwight Howard is overated.
3. Wesley Johnson is a top 15 pick and the best transfer in the country.
4. There's no way Steve Nash should have two MVP, while Kobe has one.
5. The Lakers will repeat.
6. Eric Devendorf will be drafted (sorry about that one).
7. R.I.P. Earl Manigualt.
8. I don't always dring beer, but when I do, I drink Dos Equis. Stay Thirsty my friends.
9. Brandon Jennings will win ROY.
10. Portland should start Andre Miller.
Artest is too high and I'm not sure Battier and Redd should be on there at all right now. Some guys that could be on there:
Brandon Jennings, David Lee, Al Jefferson, Bargnani...
For the past 3 years..I've said Lebron ,Kobe & Wade are the best 3 players in the league..After that its debatable to say who's next..Carmelo has played himself into the discussion as a top 5 player..I think Duncan is still in the top 5...So is Dwight Howard he might have holes in his game..But he's so dominant...He reminds me of Moses Malone in the 80's..Folks said Malone game wasn't complete..But nobody could stop him..Chris Paul & Deron Williams are top 5 players...Some might say so is Nash...Even though he's 33 Garnett is so valuable to the Celtics success..His defense & leadership has been so underrated...Playing with better players he doesnt have to do as much as his T-Wolves days...Notwitzski is top 5...Bosh could be top 3 if he was more aggressive on defense...Only a few years ago people were asking who was better Kobe or T-Mac? We all know know who's better..Its the Black Mamba..... Injuries have held back him back...I think T-Mac has a better skill set than Brandon Roy & Joe Johnson..I know i'm gonna get some flak for saying that!! But its true!!! Some guys are on the list becuz of reputation..No way should Shane Battier be in the top 50...
Gilbert Arenas, Charlie V, Elton Brand shouldn't be on the list. Melo is too low. He should be top 6. Artest, Shaquille O'Neal and Jason Kidd are too high. Artest is overrated defensively. Just look at the stats. During Artest's 2002 season when he was younger and much quicker, his team played just as good defense when he was off the court! And his backups were Trenton Hassell and Fred Hoiberg, who aren't noted for great defense. Now Artest has lost a lot of quickness. He just play dirty and physical. Shaq isn't even CLOSE to being the 16th best player in the NBA. He is too slow, can't defend the pick and roll, and is not as good offensively and as good rebounder as he once was. I am a fan of him, but he is only ranked there because of his reputation.
pretty weak list. No way is shaq that high still. And Bynum has been the lakers second best player this year and looking like a star. 50th is silly for him.
players that are borderline and squeak in i guess could be russell westbrook, lamarcus aldridge, antwain jamison, caron butler, gerald wallace, monta ellis, stephen jackson, david west, chris kaman, al jefferson, kevin martin, and pretty sure there are alot more but im probably forgetting them.
can't believe he is 18th, only one spot above Amare, who is too high. He is putting up nearly 27 and 12 this year on a bad team.
Where is Al Jefferson? He should be top 30. He rebounds, and he has the best footwork in the post in the game. No other post player gets more lay-ups out of post ups, and Jefferson is not really that athletic. He probably is my favorite player to watch in the post, his footwork is so great.
43. Lamar Odom, SF, Lakers
44. Shane Battier, SF, Rockets
45. Elton Brand, PF, 76ers
46. Richard Jefferson, SF, Spurs
47. O.J. Mayo, SG, Grizzlies
48. Charlie Villanueva, PF, Pistons
This list has almost no originality; they just took a bunch of players from popular teams and through them up on the board. Can they seriously argue that all of those players, 43-48, deserve to be there over Kevin Martin, Al Jefferson, Monta Ellis, or maybe even Tyreke Evans, I would argue he is better than at least 46-48.
How can one of the highest scoring player Kevin Martin not be on the list when Elton Brand in the last 3 years has done a big fat ZERO.. their is a lot of players on that list who do not deserve this honor ... terrible......
shane battier? and Roy should be top 10 at least.
