Will someone please send a search party to find OJ MAYO

Last season after a great rookie year...Some were mentioning him in the same breath as Kobe & Wade.As the next great 2 guard..Several magazines had him on their covers as the next big thing...After a 40 point game earlier this season Mayo has been solid but not spectacular..His field goal & rebound numbers are up from last season..Is he being to passive trying to get his teammates involved? Should the Grizzlies move him to the point to keep him interested in the game? Why hasnt Coach Hollins did something to get him more involved in the games? Would he be more successful on another team That gives him the green light to score? Like Milwaukee is doing Jennings...

There are a number of

There are a number of factors affecting OJ Mayo's game. The addition of Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol's emergence and Rudy Gay's semi-emergence have caused his shot attempts to go dip slightly. I know he went 10-10 from the line against Sacramento, but he can't rely on consistently getting to the line to score points until he learns how to use his body to draw fouls. His 3-point field goal % is also down, but there's plenty of time for it to go up. I don't expect it to go up too much though, because guys who play as many minutes as he does usually "lose their legs" as the season wears on. If he wants to score 20+ a game, then he needs at least 18 shots a game.

Point blank... OJ just isn't

Point blank... OJ just isn't getting it done (You're quick to jump on other players Quincey Hodges... Why haven't you jumped on your boy Mayo?). Period. I mentioned a few weeks ago that Mayo has actually been struggling since the pre-season. It's early, but so far he looks like he's regressed from last season. He doesn't look like he's gotten better at all. His defense has slipped considerably. His shooting percentages are down. He still doesn't get to the free-throw line.

oj is actually playing

oj is actually playing pretty well. , hes fg percentage is higher then last year and rebounds are up a lil. points are down by a lil. for some reason some of ya'll arent taking into account that they added another scorer to the team. his 3point percentage is down though. so thats why i havent jumped all over him tezo. youre stats tend to slip when you add another all star talent. but hes in the same boat as rose as far as players ive seen that haven't taken that next step up

Here's a couple of things...

#1) Its a few games where OJ only put up a total of 8 shots... Including Free Throws... You have to get one of your best players the ball more... Especially if your losing... You can't expect ANYONE to take 8 shots a game and score 20 point per...

#2) Stop watching clips and watch his basketball games... Almost every clip of the Grizzlies I've seen this year as been of Rudy Gay... Every once in a while I'll see OJ... Maybe that's the only thing some of you are watching, but whatever it is stop... Look at the WHOLE stat line then comment...

#3) If OJ Mayo or Mike Beasley had the same green light as a Brandon Jennings, you think they won't score 25 a game putting up 25+ shots a game? Know the sport son...

Get that sh*t out of here

Get that sh*t out of here and stop making excuses for OJ. YOU and Tuck. I was just pointing out facts. Hating... That's what you do Quincey. You've made a living off of that. I don't need to hate... I give credit where it's due.

Stop crying about the new player he has around him. Eric Gordon played with that same player last season and averaged 20 during the games he started. I don't want to hear that excuse.

1. "Its a few games where OJ only put up a total of 8 shots... Including Free Throws..." And who's fault is that? HIS. He's supposed to have so much "killer instinct" and scoring ability... Then shoot the ball more. He's averaging over 14 shots per game right now. I mean, how many more does he need? His problem is he doesn't get to the free-throw line. He only shoots 3 free-throws a game because he settles for jumpshots. I don't want to hear those excuses. Since he's not scoring as much, then he should put up more assists. He's not doing that either. His assists are lower than they were last year.

2. The clips are mostly of Gay because he's being more aggressive. Mayo has been passive this year... Period. I'm looking at the whole stat line. I see his FG% barely higher than last season... His 3P% down to 32%. I see his points down to 16.8. I see his FT% down to 82%. He's only averaging 2.5 assists... Down from last season. The main thing is, both his on and off the ball defense has slipped.

I just don't see a player who has improved.

Rudeboy's point is well

Rudeboy's point is well taken. People were starting to mention Mayo as "the next great two guard in the nba"... While its still early in the season, and his career, its also interesting to note that scouts primary concerns with Mayo was that his game and his body were already very mature, even as a junior in high school. If Mayo wants to be the most effective player he can be, it has to start and end with his jump shot and making it Ray Allen accurate.

mayo

mayo's numbers are down because everybody else in memphis is playing good ball. Gasol is having a great year, randolph is doing what he usualy does, and gay is finally playing like a top small foward in this league.

I'm kinda confused about the whole idea of this. This team wants to get better at playing as a team...yet we as fans want certain players to get certain numbers? Seriously guys, it's early in the season, everybody's playing good....did you ever think that hollins may have given mayo a differen't role this year? i notice he's taking smarter shots and passing the ball off after he drives inside.....just everybody chill here and keep up the love for mayo and the team.
