With the Increasing levels of talent in HS and College, would it be almost suicide to trade a 1st round pick these days?
not if your trading for an all star
I'd say so, in the old days you'd trade guys like Stephon Marbury for unprotected first rounders *cough*, Now a team would dare risking something like that.
The talent of younger players has increased, and that results in the cost of a 1st round pick increasing
If it's a younger star....
i actually think the talent isnt as good as it used to be in hs..in college i think the talent has gotten better though because of the no highschoolers to the nba rule. bascially it makes great sense if you wanna win a title now instead of later(boston celtics)
I don't think the talent has been that good recently. I'd be more likely to trade a draft pick than I would a veteran.
first round picks are overrated.hell number 1overall picks are just as likely to end up being busts as they do becoming superstars.
the best option is to trade the pick to move down and pick up a good draft pick while addressing a need wit a vet
Very rarely a top draft pick is what puts your team over the edge to a contender. All-stars often do and a lot of teams that trade their picks are looking for an immediate boost in talent to put them over the edge. It's a calculated risk, in my opinion.
