The yanks just won the world series after having a payroll of over 200 million, whats would the nba be like if you had a cap like baseball and which owners and locations do you think would attract the best players
baseball and basketball are two entirely differnet animals in terms of how the cap is structured. You can't really change it in baseball, there's just nothing you could do to keep both the Yankees and Royals on a level playing field. I like the way the nba works because we have a much more balanced and competitive playing field. I'm honestly not sure if the cap was eliminated in the nba it would make that much of a difference. Sure the Knicks or Lakers might spend a little more, but not that much. Most teams operate right around the red line with very little profit margin. Players already make over 50% of the leagues profit line. Owners aren't gonna throw even more money away just for a better chance of a title. Things would look pretty much the same as they do now even if they got rid of the cap.
Who cares about the Yankees, they tried for 8 years to win a title finally they got one.
This is like the Lakers signing Lebron and Rudy Gay for next year.
yeah, i don't watch baseball, but it's hard to give the yankees props when they spend so much more money then anyone else. They should be winning titles
Jerry West & Red Auerbach were genius at getting great players from other teams and thru the draft...They won several championships ,built dynasties and brought 2getther guys who worked well 2getther...So paying alot of money for free agents sometimes doesnt bring success
A CAP helps keep professional sports competitive. The Yankees win every year because there really isn't a cap in baseball.
The Yankees spend $51 million more than the 2nd highest paying team, which is the Mets.
Only 8 teams have a payroll greater than $100 million.
21 teams have a payroll of less than $100 million.
Those facts above, in a nutshell, illustrate why baseball is so uncompetitive, and for the most part, the same teams win and lose every year.
The NBA has a salary cap but owners willing to pay a penalty can exceed it any time they feel like it. But it's the salary cap that keep basketball and football relatively competitive.
