Tony Parker

I've been hearing lately about how Rose will be challenging Chris Paul and Deron Williams for being the best pg in the league but, Tony Parker should definately be in this conversation, too. He is now in his prime and is in my opinion the most offensively polished and consistent out of any of the afformentioned point guards. He had a career year at 22 and 7 and he could theoretically have a year wherer he will be able to dish the ball to three all-star talents in Duncan, Jefferson and Ginobli- instead of just a hurt and often sitting Duncan from last year. I think he can average even better numbers than last year and that the the Spurs will win the NBA title this year. Why isn't Parker considered top-tier pg in the league?

I definitely agree. I think

I definitely agree. I think the thing about Rose being ahead of him has to do with his physical tools and the fact that he is already a better playmaker for others right now, much less when they were at the same stage of their development. Parker is more experienced and last year showed the ability to really take over games scoring, but I think Rose will be a better player possibly as soon as next year and then pass him altogether in 2010-2011.

He is the.....

Best scoring PG in the league, but I always tend to put him 4th in my ranks behind Paul, Williams, and Nash because they have tremendous vision, and can score whenever the have-to

I personally reserve top

I personally reserve top tier for players you can build around, and as good as Tony Parker is... and he's damn good, second best player on the Spurs without question, Manu and Jefferson healthy of not, I don't think you can build a championship caliber team around him. Trust me, if I had a franchise player at any other position, I'd probably pick Parker as my point guard, but its Chris Paul>>Deron Williams>>>>>Rest of the league in my opinion. Nash used to be there, but he's too much of a defensive liabilty and cant play the 37-38 minutes that Paul and Williams do. Other player haves question marks or limitations, so the can be in the second tier, the star category. But to be a superstar, franchise player, you need to be "that dude".

Tier One- C. Paul, D. Williams
Tier Two- S. Nash, T. Parker, C. Billups, (Arenas and B Diddy health permitting, but havent been consistant enough to justify the top tier.
Tier Three (Solid starters and up and comers)- J. Kidd and R. Rondo (Play without 3 hall of famers first), D. Harris (one more year), D. Rose and R. Westbrook (rising fast), Calderon, Nelson, Bibby (underrated) ect, ect.

This is no offense to the third tier. The second tier has players who, when things shake out right are MVP candidates, and one player who has two. Tier three are point guard who can be all-stars but not MVP (Westbrook and Rose have potential, and Rondo has a unique skillset.)

But only the first tier is for players who have proven they will finish in the top 10 in MVP voting almost every single year for the next decade.

First tier players at other positions (SG- Kobe and Wade, SF- Lebron, Carmelo, Durant PF- Duncan, Garnett (some reservations about both these picks), Nowitzki C-Howard) Because teh questions will be asked Roy is the first player on the cusp of Top tier. My second tier for other positions looks a little like this. SG- Roy, Johnson, Carter, Iguodala SF- Granger, Pierce, (Butler health permitting with players like Gay and Josh Smith knockin) PF/C- Jefferson, Gasol, Stoudemire, Bosh, Yao (health??), Aldridge the last in, and Bynum, Biedrins, and Horford first out.

Top 5 PG looks good

Lets see Rose outplay Rondo first, then think about top 5. I'd like to see how he does w/out Ben Gordon scoring this year.
Your top 5 is right on though and Baron Davis should have a huge year with all those scorers.

Bibby is not underrated much ppl actually overrated him becaz of the playoff success early on against the Lakers.
Hawks could've let him go, esp. since Crawford is there for 2 years he can play the point and Teague will learn.
Not sure why so many teams passed on Sessions he has potential meanwhile Bibby has reached his already.

By the way where do you guys rank Duhon 2nd to last behind Udrih?

this stuff is shocking. I

this stuff is shocking. I love Parker and I have him ranked as a top 5 pg, but the TS said he was the most consistent and best offensive pg in the whole league and people are agreeing and giving him points? Please tell me how Parker is more consistent and brings more to the offnensive table then Paul or Dwill? Please keep in mind that offense does not just mean scoring points. It means setting up your teammates as well and gettin assists. So are you saying that guys like Paul, DWill, and Arenas even are all worse players then Parker except on defense?

Tony Parker

I would agree that Tony Parker is about as good as it gets as far as scoring at the PG position. I think he would average a lot more points if he played in a different system, but he's playing more of a half court game and has a lot of older players around him. I see him as a more efficient version of Allen Iverson, though until TD retires you will probably never get to see Parker unleash his full arsenal on people.

As for best point guards, it has to be Paul and Williams and then everyone else. Those are the only two guys at that position with no real holes in their game. You can debate the other guys all day long and a lot of them you can interchange and see no change in their teams. Now I'm not saying this guy is in the top tier, but I think Devin Harris is more complete as far as all around game, offense and defense than a lot of the other guys on the list even though some are still better players.

i used to not really give

i used to not really give parker his props but the last couple of years i just had 2..i dont have him up wit paul and dwill but i do have him in the next tier...as far as right now lamarcu makes it mkadoza but potenial wise if bynum is healthy i take him over hortford and bendrie ealy..ill also take him over lamarcus..not really sure why omeone has sessions on there when hes gonna be backing up flynn. he has to win out that battle which hes currently losing, in order to even be mentioned

Tony Parker is the best

Tony Parker is the best scoring point guard in the league. He can score at will as we saw last year dropping 50 something in one game. He can also pass the dime, but with san antonio a slow team, with more shooters then slashers they don't get as much assist.I rank parker debatably 2nd best pg in th league after Chris Paul.

I like Tony Parker and I

I like Tony Parker and I agree he is top 5 but because he is more of a shooting guard than a pure point, he could easily get overtaken by guys that are pure point guards.

Tony Parker

He is top 5 Pg yes but he isn't doesn't pass as much thats why he'll I'll never have him up there with Cp3 n D-Will. As for Rose yes he is D-Will n Cp3 on steroids thats why they say he will be up there and Rose will. Why do people still bring up Nash it bothers me because his defense is horrific, but Tp3 is on the same level as Devin Harris and Chauncy if you want to go off of last season.

im not sure rose is dwill on

im not sure rose is dwill on steriods..the only thing he has over dwill is athletic abilty..as far as shooting scoring passing defense dwill has him by a nice margin..same with paul..his celing to me is slightly below to even with them ..same with westbrook inc ei put him and roe int he same catagory..tp3 is a top 5 pg no doubt though

Paul

Paul couldn't shoot as a rookie Pauls jump shot just got really consistent last season reason why I say that because is a pass first pg who can take over and step up at any giving time like them. He has Cp3 passing skills and will have D-Will strength. I say steroid because he is cat quick and way more athletic than both of them.

paul couldnt shoot as a

paul couldnt shoot as a rookie??..are you serious?..he wasnt a great shooter but he could hit the jumper consitantly(inside the three point line)..not sure where u came up with that...and pauls jumper was wayyyyyy better then rose's jumper as a rookie.. truth be told dwill and paul is very quick and they know how to do there thing in more than one speed..rose has the potenial to get near them but he has a nice lil ways to go..a well as his pretty bad defense

He was an ok shooter

Yeah but Pauls was ok wasn't to wet Rose jumper is alright its not as bad as Rondos or Westbrooks. Rose just has the speed handle craftiness athleticism and poise he will learn to play defense a lot of great players in the nba who couldn't play D as a rookie could play good defense now...he is not to far away from D-Will and Paul. Rose has great change of gears in his game its amazing how he does it at his speed.

rose jumper is better then

rose jumper is better then rondo but is no different then westbrooks..neither is reliable from mid range or 3pt..they both score most of there points with drives dunks and floaters( alot of people confuse roses floater with an actual jumper)..and rose isnt close to dwill or paul in my opinion...announcers are always mentioning one of roses weakness is his half court game...and alot of players alo dont end up being good defenders so saying he will become on the same level of dwill or paul defensively is premature..we all hope and some think he will but thats not a given

I believe he will

I mean look at Lebron as much as I think hes a overrated defender hes gotten way better on defense. Rose has one of the most deadly floaters in the NBa (behind Tp n Paul). His half court game is a huge weakness I just said it in another thread for him to be close to Paul n D-Will there is little things as a PG he must learn. Rose has to much potential and skill at his age not to catch up to Paul n D-Will that is just my opinion on it.

rose has one of the deadliest floaters in the nba????..ummm no its ok but its far from one of the most deadliest..on top of the names you said its behind rondo's easily and jameer nelson..

dime magazine- Derrick Rose’s stutter step
The rook really only has one move at this stage of his career. But it’s good enough to get him over 18 per game.

Rose

He has the best hesitation moves in basketball in my opinion...it's not really one move, it's a variety of hesitations. He has a nice amount of crossovers, but I agree his floater, while very good, is not one of the very best in the NBA.

3pt % CP3: Career:

3pt %

CP3:
Career: .344%
08-09: .364%

D-Will
Career: .358%
08-09: .310%

Is Deron Williams really that much of a better shooter than CP3?
Without CP3's rookie season CP3 has been a much better 3pt shooter than Deron..

Yes He is a better shooter

His percentages last year were hurt by the fact that for the 1st half of he season he was playing on a bad ankle. When you watch both of them play it is clear that Williams is a much more confident and reliable 3-point shooter. Williams has also taken more 3 pointers in his career. 910 to Paul's 745, and while he didn't shoot a great percentage at the beginning of last year, defenders still had to respect his shot.

I think whenyou compare the

I think whenyou compare the 3 pt %'s, you have to take into account that with Paul, people play off him more because they are afraid of the drive and him finding his teammates off pick and rolls or penetration. So when he does shoot 3's, they are usually wide open with plenty of time. DWill has to take tougher 3's off the dribble and with defenders on him, so yeah, I think DWill is a better shooter despite what the numbers might say.

ok

Idk I just love Rose floater maybe im favoring,Rondo has a nice floater but he just starting hittin that consistantly last year before that he would miss open lay ups. For some reason I think Rondo and Jameer are only good because of the team they have around as far as them getting points, but D-Will is a much better shooter than Paul you can se that by just watching there games. D-Will will hit a jumper from anywhere on the court. That's the 1 thing I believe he is better than Paul at is shooting everything else is a toss up.

trust me i feel you on

trust me i feel you on rondo..i didnt think he was that god either untill i really started watching him...he has the ability to turn it on and off when he wants..if he had to lead a team he has shown that he can do that as a 1st or second option on a good team
