The Memphis for some reason are getting a lot of love with some even thinking they will make the playoffs. Playoffs?! You kidding me?! Playoffs?!! The grizzlies have the makings of a team with a lot of talent on paper, but terrible when they play together on the court. they have iverson (cancer, ball hog), zach randolph (cancer, ball hog), rudy gay (black hole), hasheem thabeet (Mr. more turnovers than ppg), mike conley (below average starting pg), and then they have two bright spots in mayo and gasol. they have no distributors on a team that needs to play with 5 balls at times. Honestly, they will be a train wreck. i think they get 25 wins max.
I actually agree. But more like 30-35 wins. They can flat out outscore some teams and Mayo can be a pass first distributor.
I Think this team will be better if Mayo ran the point and IVERSON was the shooting guard....their problem last season was lack of talent and they played no defense...
they should have done the conley for sessions and alexander deal.
thing is 30-35 wins would be pretty close to playoffs if they were in the east... behind boston, cleveland and orlando there is such a huge dropoff... 8th seed last year was detroit with 38 wins...
they could be pretty cool and will definately be a fun team to watch... i think now that they have a consistent scoring threat down low zach randolph will get double teams and itll open up the backcourt for open shots... they have the potential to be pretty decent man... its just up to how randolph does and how well oj mayo develops....
too tall for basketballl?
man that would suck, being too tall for the sport for tall kids
Mayo Will NEVER Be Pass First LOL
Memphis will win games or they will find a new head coach. The talent is there.
I dont know if i would call rudy gay a blackhole....
still not there...bottom dweller in the West again, no chance at playoffs
AI has not player but Conley has actually played well and Mayo looks like he used this preseason to pass more. Memphis has not really used a line up that will be actually playing in the regular season. Gasol is not playing many minutes and he should be starting.
Mayo has played really poor in the pre-season. His field goal and 3-point percentage is way down and his averaging too many turnovers.
I think the Grizz will win somewhere between 28 and 32 games based on what they have right now. The basically have no offensive production from their centers. Gasol and Thabett are there just for defense. Also other then Conley what player really looks to set other people up. Iverson, Gay and Randolph all are me first players. If Conley isnt playing the point I would rather have Mayo play point then Iverson. Just not sold on the coaching od the chemistry that will make up this team.
why is conley a belwo average pg..he played pretty well in his second year (first as a full time starter) and put up pretty good numbers...ill have to checkl and see if he did worst then the average pg in the nba....marc gasol average 11pts a game as a rookie center...is that really no offense from the center position? he only averaged 3pts less then illguskus and more then al hortford and .1 points less then chris kaman..ive never heard ay one say gay is a me first player..if anything alot of peopel say hes unselfish because he's so physically talented but doesnt try to take over games more...if anything its good for youre star to be a me first player and pass second..thats what memphis wants gay and mayo to be..
for rudy gay, its not that he is selfish, its that he just stops the offense because he shoots some ill advised shots and is not a great passer. he needs to play on a running team to be successful and you can't have a running team with zach randolph.
glad you could share your outstanding opinion.
Outside of Thabeet I really like Memphis' draft. Carroll and Young were both great pick ups that go well with their young nucleus of talent. I understand why they took Thabeet, he will take time to develop, and Marc Gasol will play in the mean time. It's easier to take a gamble at #2 when you have a 7' rookie who averaged 10 and 7ish the year before. What I don't understand is where Iverson and Randolph fit in the equation, I've been saying this for a long time, and I think the Grizz may win a few more games this season, but with as much young talent as they have I just don't see how bringing in two shoot first head cases will help the youngs develop. Excluding Iverson and Randolph they have
Carroll, Young, Thabeet, Williams
I know, that roster wouldn't win a lot of games, but as far as young potential goes, it is stacked. It just would have made much more sense to bring in someone like David Lee or Paul Millsap this off-season instead of Randolph. Iverson says he's changed, I have my doubts, but I don't see Memphis making much of a splash this season just purely due to team identity and chemistry issues.
Joewolf1 u made some valid points about the Grizzlies...They had a great draft..Thabeet has shown he isn't a stiff..But it does seems like it will take him a season or to become dependable..Carroll & Young has played well in the preseason..Both have shown they can become good defensive players..The Grizzlies lack a deadly outside shooter..that can open up the floor ...But adding Iverson will help them in other areas..His GO-ALL-OUT STYLE on the court..Might rub off on 2 laid back players like Gay & Mayo...Both have the potential to be among the top 3 players at their positions in the NBA..I love the fact that Iverson thinks he's the best player in the league..I read an article last season, that when a reporter asked Iverson 'who was the best player in the league Lebron or Kobe? Iverson looked at the dude like he was from another planet..Then said 'I HAVEN'T RETIRED YET...In some ways Iverson's I'M THE MAN mentality ..Has rubbed off on Rudy GAY already..During training camp...Gay told reporters that he feel that he should be the 1 taking the last shot in crucial situations...
every good player or even average player says they feel they should be taking the last shot..ya'll act like rudy is the first to ever say it
