Now I Understand the Reason Why Orlando Matched the Offer For Gortat

Otis Smith was smart for matching the Gortat deal and here's why. When Gortat had signed the full mid-level deal with Dallas, no one thought that Orlando would match it and they did because when you think about it, Gortat is solid whenever he starts. Given starter minutes, Gortat could easily averaged 15,10 and 2 blocks a game and that would make him a borderline or an all star out in the West with Yao Ming injured and Shaquille O'Neal back in the East. Gortat will be traded to a team that he can start like Oklahoma City and for Orlando to get some expirings or some players in return with lesser payroll and maybe even a pick or 2. Magic could even through in JJ Reddick who I don't see getting minutes this year so that the Magic can avoid the luxary tax or at least try to.

if gortat was a starter he

if gortat was a starter he would not post 15 10 and 2. that is silly. dont overvalue him because he is a good role player. He is a role player that fits perfectly with the magic behind dwight. the magic kept him because teams overvalue big men. a team will trade for him next summer and they are going to get a good value out of him. hes a decent starting center with a underpriced salary

tax

The best way to avoid the luxury tax would have been to not re-sign Gortat. I think Orlando will keep Gortat and give him better mins b/c outside of Howard, they have no quality bigs. Gortat will see some time at 4.

What makes youso shure that he wouldn't average that. Why do you think he got such a deal from Dallas. Whenever Gortat starts for the Magic, he post numbers similar to that or even more.

Actually im betting the

Actually im betting the magic want to get rid of him right after dec 15 or when they are allowed to, he will bring cap relief might be able to get a pick or 2 some expriing contracts or could just add a player to put them over the top, unless Howard goes out with in injury which i highly doubt he will be gone

They Will Get Rid of Gortat for Relief

After Dec. 15th, expect teams like Houston and Oklahoma City to inquire about Gortat. Dallas could also be a player because Marc Cuban is willing to do things most owners won't do. All the cash in the world to his disposal. Think about it. What's a guy that could average 15,10 and 2 blocks as a starter be left on a bench and rot and play limited minutes.

At the MLE he's great value,

At the MLE he's great value, and I can't imagine Presti passing on that.

What do you think OKC would offer for him? Collison? One of their first rounders? Etan Thomas is also expiring, and he would give the magic pretty much the same as Gortat.

Oklahoma City Would Offer..

I think they would offer Phoenix's unprotected pick with Magic wanted no salary in return but if they were to get a that pick and salary, it would most likely be either Ibaka or Mullins.

i wouldnt give up phoenixs unprotected pick, theyll probaly not make the playoffs so it will be sexy, i think theyll let mullens and ibaka roam for a bit but i dont see who they would trade and who the magic would except?

gortats per 36 min averages

gortats per 36 min averages (starter minutes) 15 pts 14 rebounds a steal and a block... that pretty good in my book

So u would give up a high

So u would give up a high first draft pick in a big mans draft and give away another big man for some one whos never played starters minutes before and pay him 5 mill a year for a few years

What's the difference if

What's the difference if they trade the pick for Gortat. Either way they are using it on a bigman. And since Aldrich is the only C whos not a project (Alibi) and he won`t fall to either of their picks, so getting a legit C for a late lottery pick is a pretty good deal. And collision isn't really a C, and that`s what they need.

If BJ and Ibaka do improve, then that`s just another asset that they have, but there is no guarantee that that happens, so they need to plan otherwise.

Just out of curiosity, if OKC does swing a deal for Gortat with the sun`s pick, who do you think they should take with their own pick, and lets say its in the 9-11 range.

people tend to overrate a

people tend to overrate a player that comes off the bench and put up ok numbers in a limited period of time. the fact is gorat is not as good and some fans want to believe. hes not given starter min for a reason. hedo left and im pretty sure he still wont start. and the per36min is wayyyyy overrated. gorat would be playing more min against better players instead of back ups. hes not the jason terry or manu comming off the bench player because the team wants offensive fire power off the bench. and if he was wit okc hed come off the bench also.. he isnt better then kristic or green. orlando matched because they didnt wanna lose him for nothing and they know that if it doesnt work out they can always trade him for some players that they need

im from orlando

and i believe the magic will not trade him unless they get some real value like picks, or a player of need. i doubt they trade him this season. they want to save him for the playoffs. so he can increase his value even more.

i agree with half of what

i agree with half of what you said the truth..except remeber in the playoffs rotations get tighter so dwight rashad and bass will be playing longer then they normally would unless they are blowing what ever team they are playing wayy out( up 20 at the end of the third as we know doesnt count because it seems thats like a 5 point lead in the nba playoffs)
