My View: The Lakers PG Situation

I think the Lakers should give Shannon Brown the bulk of the PG minutes. I love him man, he's an exciting player. But I think he should start because every time he gets in the game for the Lakers, all he does is lock down or makes things tough for his matchup (whether its a PG or SG), make open shots, and make one hesitation move, drive the lane and usually he finishes. He is the best defender in the Lakers backcourt, and he has the ability to body strong guards and keep up[ with the Aaron Brooks' and Tony Parker's of the NBA. He's should play more than Fisher and Farmar because:

1. Fisher cant guard quick players at all, he is too stiff and lacks quickness himself.
2. Farmar doesnt do anything that good except get to the rim, and Brown is even better than him at that.
3. Out of all 3, Farmar is the only 1 that's a pure PG. And his playmaking skills left him as soon as he left Ben Howland. He plays more like a scorer now.

Brown can do everything Fisher and Farmar can do, except Fisher can post up and score better (very overrated skill for a perimeter player) and Farmar is a better natural passer (which you dont have to be in the Triangle, a one move and score or dish offense). Brown is the best player in that stable to me, as he's equal if not better at every meaningful aspect of the game for the Triangle offense. Come on Phil, I know you can see it too!!!!!

Leadership

Fishers leadership is going to make him start. The guy is a liability on defense but his toughness makes up for that. He is going to start games with him and brown probably spliting and getting the same amount of time and farmar getting a few here and there.

Fisher is probably the worst

Fisher is probably the worst of the 3, but he is in the last year of his contract and I doubt he plays after this season. I don't think Phil will take his starting spot away. But his minutes should drop down to around 20 per game from 29 last season.

Personally I like Farmar more then Brown. Farmar was very good prior to last season. He looked like the pg of the future for the Lakers. But he had an injury last season that kept him out for about 5 weeks and he was never the same when he returned. But Phil used him as Fisher's replacement in the second round against Houston when Fisher was suspended a game and Farmar was very solid in helping lead the lakers to victory with 14 points and 6 assists. He is the best shooter of the bunch and the best ball handler.

Brown is the best athlete and defender. He also shot the spot up shots well. But most his damage was done in spurts off the bench. I prefer him as a spark plug type role. However, putting him on the perimiter with Kobe and Artest could be one of the best lockdown perimter groups in the whole league.

He should get in mostly for

He should get in mostly for late-game situations, ala Robert Horry. Farmar should get traded or play limited minutes.

brown has played

limited minutes his whole career and they just won the ship with fisher starting. why dont we see how they perform before annointing anybody the starter over fisher. and that would also make kobe super unhappy if fish was taken outta the starting five. not everything is based off athleticism and talent. brown has never run an nba team.. if fisher shows that he is over the hill(he's getting there) then phil MAY give brown or more likely farmar a chance but idk..

Farmar to me needs to be

Farmar to me needs to be traded I like the idea of Fisher 20 min, Brown 20 min, Vujacic 8 min at the point guard spot. Brown and Vujacic can play defense. Farmar is a nice change of pace guard who is not really build for the Lakers team.

phil jackson

coach told nbatv sasha v. played with his hair more than he tried to play in the games! Lakers are missing a PG. LA could be one of the greatest teams ever if they had even an above average PG. LA PG. situation could haunt them in the playoofs if not addressed before the trade deadline. Fisher is a defense liability in his old age and brown just doesn't have what it takes to be a starting PG. Sasha only launches ridicuols 3pointers every time he touches the ball. Sasha cut his hair after phil publically made fun of him.lol

Fisher makes clutch shots

Fisher makes clutch shots and he knows how to play within the team. Fisher actually helps the team. Farmar to me when he plays, he is more effective when he has the green light to score and that does seem to do well with the first unit and his defense is not good. Brown can a least defense and is athletic enough to finish plays. In the triangle offense you dont need a true point guard and most teams don't have a starting 5 with that many great passers. People forget Kobe's passing level is on a point guard level even though he does not do this often. Some is Pau Gasol, and Odom. Bynum's passing is about average for a power forward.
