Work Ethic

Many players in the league have outstanding work ethic. Kobe, James, Wade, Howard, Aldridge, etc.

but after reading a little more in depth about sam young, i find his work ethic outstanding.

Scott Cacciola of The Commercial Appeal, the daily newspaper of the Grizzlies' home city of Memphis, Tennessee, wrote:

“ Young has long been known for his work ethic and his determination. At 6-6 and 210 pounds, he plays basketball in a minor key, all angst and controlled rage, motivated by those who had underestimated him, written him off, ignored him.[1] ”

Young's work ethic borders on the obsessive. While at Pitt, he practiced so much on his own that the coaching staff worried about his knees, and he would regularly play pick-up games at lunchtime during the season. During the summer before his senior year at Pitt, he went so far as to live for a month in a locker room at Pitt's home arena, the Petersen Events Center, sleeping on an air mattress he had carried to the locker room, so he could work out and practice whenever he chose. Young himself admitted that basketball was his "love" and his girlfriend was his "mistress", adding, "And she knows that."

it's

it's....just...wow... a month living in a locker room? shows some real discipline.

please do not think i'm saying his work ethic is better than anybody's in the league, i'm just showing you what this guy does for himself. i envy this work ethic, he's extremely dedicated....and for being the 36th pick in the draft, doesn't this look like a major steal or what?

Joe Alexander lived in the

Joe Alexander lived in the locker room for most of the summer on year. Work horses are often some of the least talanted. Its sad that it works like that. Imagine if guys like Lebron or Dwight worked like Young. I guess thats why he has made it to where he is. Good for him.

sam young

Sam young has improved so much. Hes from my area and he was a raw and athletic POWER FORWARD in high school with virtually no offensive ability. He averaged six blocks per game in high school. People are saying that he lacks fluidity, but he exaggerates his fakes more than anyone I have ever seen. He is one of the guys you just want to see suceed......

2nd round Steal

Definitely a second round steal... Kudos to the Grizz for taking him there when he was available... Why on the world would the Cavaliers pass on this guy for a dude named Eyenga? The reason why I gave a good draft grade for the Memphis Grizzlies is because of Sam Young...period... His work ethic is unbelievable...

Hansbrough

Yeah, I really like Sam Young as a player, the Grizz outside Thabeet had another good pick in Carroll. Hansbrough has a freak work ethic too. There is no way a guy even with his collegiate accolades would have been drafted so high if it wasn't for his work ethic. He always keeps himself in top shape( dude is a workout freak), is easy to coach, and is willing to do what it takes to get better and for his team. I honestly have never liked Tyler Hansbrough, but his work ethic has even this hater to at least respect his level of commitment. I think he will be a solid pro too for that very reason. I don't know if he was the 13th best player in the draft this year, but Indiana knows what they are getting and its a guy who will bust his butt every night for them.

Guys like

Guys like Hansbrough, Young, Blair and James Johnson are the ones that teams KNOW already what they can give. They don't have much potential to show unlike guys like Demar Derozan, BJ Mullens, Gerald Henderson and others... Those guys are likely to improve... But with guys like Hansbrough, they are ready to contribute right away but they will never have a chance to likely improve because we already know their game and that's it.
