Sixers PG Dillema
Umm... who's the Sixers starting point guard. Following Dre's departure to the "Jailblazers" (just kiddin, those days are over), the Sixers have failed to have addressed the postion. It almost seems as if they had forgotten about it? I'd have thought they were primed to join the bidding war for the dynamic Sessions (along with the Knicks and Clippers, before the T-Wolves swooped in). Although his score first mentality would've been detrimental to the team's makeshift, his ability to defend and create fastbreak opportunities would've suited well with Iggy and Thad's athletic prowess. Because that's no longer the case, who do the Sixers turn to now? Is it possible they already have their solution from their current roster? If so, it'd have to be between Lou Will and Young Jrue. Lou Will has a lot of AI in him ( though he's more of a 2-guard than a combo). Young Jrue has the ability, but his WAY to raw to start right now ( though he will eventually run the team in the long term). Another alternative may be Iggy (he does have decent playmaking skills, as his career assists average suggests: 4.3 ). But that's a big maybe. If it was up to me, i'd suggest they sign (if there's any available) or trade for a ready made pass first point. Is Steve Blake available?
This is no dillema, that is a bit extreme.
Lou Williams has been a point guard his entire life until Mo Cheeks system where he saw him as a shooting guard. Lou is a scoring point guard that fits into Eddie Jordan's princeton offense. Look at the Wizards, they had Gilbert Arenas running point who shoots more than Lou does.
the princeton offense involves 2 guards, either or can bring the ball up the court.. You may see Lou at PG, iggy at PG, and a few other options as well... I read philly.com daily and am a huge Sixers fan.. NOw im not arguing that signing another PG would be a bad idea, cause its not.. We can use some depth there as Jrue grows, but in same respect I think Lou is going to surprise some people..
I think Lou Williams will show people that he is ready to be unleased. He can score with the pass of them and I think his passing is better than people give him credit but even with that Iguadala can pass like a point and you can run the offense though him and you have more weapons
I think they should add another pg for depth while Jrue develops. A solid veteran that knows his role and knows he's only there as a backup. I think it's nice to have a pass first guy, but I think as long as you have someone out there to facilitate the offense, that is what matters most. Bringing the ball up the court in the NBA really tends not to be that big of a deal just because you rarely see anyone put any type of pressure on until half court. Two of the best teams in the league in the Spurs and Lakers have been starting guys that are not traditional point guards.
I honestly would've liked us to go after Sessions or even a guy like Felton, but Lou is a great fit for this offense and I think everyone in the 76ers fron office realizes it. He is an electric athlete and he will show it this year as he wont have to be the traditional PG we all know he's not. He also will get alot of alley-oops and backdoors in this system. Expect 18 or 19 ppg and about 5 assists. Point guard is better off than other parts of our teams. Our real problem lie in the SG and C spots. Willie Green is better suited as a 2nd team player and Dalembert just is a garbage, overpaid guy.
i expect big things from him this year. He is an extremely talented player but has struggled with decision making, particularly shot selection (his % was down last yr a bit too much). But any player like that will benefit so much from having the ball in his hands as much as a starting pg does, just so much more experience packed into a season.
also i recently read an article on realgm.com about his off season. Apparently he has gone gilbert arenas on us and has been putting up over 1,000 makes a day to bring his fg% up. He even claimed that hes been shooting so much that he can't sleep on his side because his arm so sore.
I expect him to remain an electric scorer, but the princeton offense will really help him pick his spots better as its pretty defined when to shoot and when not to.
look for him to keep the floor spread for elton and knock down kickouts at an efficient rate
no pg void imo
If Lou doesnt work out, I think they could trade Brand for someone to help them out.
YES the 76ers need help with SG and C spot Iguodala 9. At least next year's draft is stacked with good centers and shooting guards.
Avery Bradley, Xavier Henry, Willie Warren, Evan Turner,
Solomon Alabi, Cole Aldridge, DeMarcus Cousins, That dude on Tulsa.
I would want Cousins out of that list. And Jerome Jordan (Tulsa guy) would be like a Dalembert I think, I dont like him at all. He has size, but he's lethargic. Think Patrick O'Bryant.
And Xavier Henry would be a great addition for us..
Arn't they going have iggy play the 2, thad play the 3 and brand the 4? That's what they were doing last year before Elton went down. And with Miller gone, their backcourt is pretty thin, so I can't imagine them playing iggy at the 3 and having thad come off the the bench.
You are exactly right...I'm still thinking about the team post-Elton Brand. With Brand back we now have everyone at their natural positions, and Green sliding down to the bench.
Honestly they knew Miller was leaving and they felt Louis could fil that spot but nnaahhh not happening then to make it worst they draft Jrue Holiday another mistake BIG time. Honestly I think if they would drafted Darren Collison they would be fightin for a 8th seed in the playoffs he is the type of pg they need in the Philly system.
Why didnt we get Jeff Teague?! That's all I ask...
Teague is another Lou just a slighty better pg,Collinson would have did it for the Sixers I really believe so.
For the Princeton offence, dont you need a PG that can score?? IDK for sure, but I think Williams will be fine.
