HE'S RIGHT.

Wait one moment. There IS some steam here. For those of you who may not remember, Ron Harper was ACTUALLY the first next Jordan!!!!! It was Harper first, then those such as Harold Miner, Isiah Rider, Grant Hill, Jerry Stackhouse, Kobe Bryant and Lebron James.

This is indeed true.

Its not true, he said he was

Its not true, he said he was almost as nice as Mike before he got hurt. He was a pretty good player, but was Harold Miner almost as good as Mike? No, Isaiah Rider, no, and so on and so forth. Just because those comparisons were made in the late 80's doesn't mean they are true. Harper was another instance of a good player putting up pretty monster numbers for bad Clippers teams. Kevin Martin, the next Reggie Miller????,...nope, they score a lot and shoot 3's, its the same thing as comparing Harper to Jordan.

That's not what I said. I listed names who were the "so called" next Jordans!!! Please re-read. Anyway, I know you're probably too young to remember, but Ron Harper was the first player ever called the new Michael Jordan. Had he not gotten hurt, he probably would have made the HOF! After he became hurt, it was all about the ring. Check his stats. Before he joined the Bulls, he averaged 20 pts the previous season. Then his averaged dropped to 6 ppg. Also, his rookie season he averaged 23 pts, 5rb, 5ast and 2.5 stl. That's where the MJ comparisons came from. It was a HOF season and he was a rookie.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Correct me if I'm wrong here.....Len Bias was drafted in 86 as well...I could have sworn people were comparing him to Micheal Jordan. So wouldn't be be considered the 1st next Jordan?

I dunno, wasn't alive back then.

And Harper could have scored way more, but look at his teammates. Mark Price=All-star! Brad Daugher, a big-time player = All-star. They were unselfish. Criag Ehlo. John "Hotrod" Williams. Larry Nance.

I dont remember that far

I dont remember that far back but I will say this even in his later years. Dude had skill and was a very good defensive player. Maybe if he did not get hurt, their numbers would have been close. I think he may have 4 rings but I am not sure. Didn't he get one with the Lakers. The other 3 I think was with the Bulls. I bout to look this up.

Harper averaged 22.9 his

Harper averaged 22.9 his rookie year not 29 like D Hamp said. Harper was a good player, but never for a very good team before joining the Bulls. He had potential and injuries did cut him down, but HOF for being a 20 point scorer for bad teams is a stretch.

QUINCY HODGES: RON HARPER WAS A GOOD DEFENDER

1986: 2.55 stl and 1 blk
1987: 2.17 stl and .091 blk
1988: 2.26 stl and .90 blk
1989: 2.39 stl. and 1.14 blk
1990: 2.00 stl and 1.39 bll

What makes someone a good defender in the NBA. You're not that smart. lol

Actually he has 5 rings. he

Actually he has 5 rings. It may have been a blessing he got hurt because I doubt, he would have came closevto that amount of rings if he had not gotten hurt and left the clippers. Dhamp, I put Ron Harper the next Jordan and this topic just pulled up lol. It may be the only one though we will see.

And you never said who the first "next Jordan" was. HA HA HA. Because I know for a FACT, it was Ron Harper. And how was he not a good defender. lol! And the Cavs were pretty good. Or did you never see Jordan hitting those shots over Elho year after year. Don't go there. I know my stuff.

That's my point Sheltwon. Had he not gotten hurt, he wouldn't have joined the Bulls beacuse his numbers would have been to good and he wouldn't have wanted to diminish them. These guys don't know because they didn't see Harper play before the injuries.

abd you said if he didnt

abd you said if he didnt have those teammates..youre so smart that u forgot that he also played for the clippers where he didnt have those teammates and yet he didnt go off scoring wise so that kinda throws a wrench into youre harper could have scored way more:)..so you pretty much know as much stuff as the average basketball world...you should probably change youre name to the kayne west of nbadraft.net since you think more highly of youreself then anyone else does

My arguement

The Cavs were a non playoff team with Harper until they added Brad Daugherty, then they put up a big season, but still lost in the 1st round of the playoffs, the whole time Harper played for the Cavs they were either a non playoff team or 1st round losers. Pretty good, yeah, you can say that, but not that good.

then he must have forgotten

then he must have forgotten that he also played for the clippers..by the way does anyone happen to know how many steal ivers( not that great of a defender) averaged for his career?..not saying harper isnt a good defender but that pretty much tells you you cant just go by stats to win a arguement of how good a defender is

Nope, not at all. That was simply a paradigm. It was a concensus. Much like everyone knowing Lebron and Kobe are the best players in the NBA. Everyone just knew. Bottom line, unless you can prove otherwise. Me, C-web, everyone on Draft.net remembers Harper being the new Jordan. He was a really good defender and scorer. Actually, a lockdown defender during his championships, which was already point out. He has 5 rings. Nuff said.
