my nephew josh huestis

http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=88510...

http://usc.scout.com/a.z?s=15&p=9&c=2&cid=889342&nid=4198135&fhn=1&ssf=1...

just recapping what i was saying earlier in the summer about my nephew..he was unknown out of montana and most people on here said he wouldnt get recruited high because hes from montana and wont cut it against better comp during the summer( and i could understand some peoples skeptisim since it is montana and im sure people come on here all the time raving about there family member) but after this summer hes proved that he belongs with the elite and has the potenial to be a first round pick in the future ( writer for scout.com as well as some high major coaches and nba players hes worked out with have all said so). rthis summer he made the move from pf/c to sf/sg which is why hes still not ranked as high since hes still earning the position even though he did very well this summer at the position. the sites havnt updated the list but he also has just started being recruited by georgetown and has been getting recruited hard by stanford and oklahoma state. everyone sees him as a young grant hill beause of his length height jumping ability handles and jumper (johnny dawkins was one of the first to say this and if anyone would know its him since he recruited and coached grant) so keep a ear/eye out for him this and next year

Cool

But come on...Let's not compare him to Grant Hill...Also, I have a hard time believing this guy will be a first round pick, let alone an NBA prospect at all...I know he's your nephew and all, but let's be realistic here...

Soon

It's only my freshman season in high school, but there's a few scouts that go to varsity games, and like 2 that have been to my games. They said when I'm a junior to start looking at a college for a basketball scholorship, but I also want to be a meteorologist, so what should I do?

On the other hand, Josh looks like udonis haslem. :D

Yeah comparing him to Grant

Yeah comparing him to Grant Hill is upsurd. I know I wrongfully called him overrated before, but Grant Hill was an amazing NBA player before he got hurt. I really don't see Huestis being an NBA superstar like Hill was, sorry.

if just a fan said it then i

if just a fan said it then i would agree but the fact that johnny dawkins (did ya'll forget he actually recruited and coached grant said it ( potenial ). plus none of ya'll have actualyl seen him play yet are already saying what he wont do. and blazer fan since you have never seen him play why is it unrealistic?..just because you never heard of him or hes not overhyped. personally io tend to judge players actually after seeing them play instead of asuming. it would be different if somone gave an opinion after seeing him play you know??

That's true

Your right, Quincey...I need to watch some film of him...But, I just have a hard time seeing him being a first round pick. There are just so many guys out there who are 6,7 and athletic...Maybe if he adds a key component to his game, such as a mid range jumper he has a chance...He could end up as a Dante Cunningham type of player in the future.

im not sure about these

im not sure about these other guys but ive watched him the last 2 summers. last summer he was probably a mid major player at best since he was a pf..very athletic and a very good rebounder and shot blocker..also a smart player but a lil undersized to play pf as well as being a lil too slim. With that said after watching him this summer in cali and vegas i must say he has improved awhole lot hes easily a small foward and has a very good jumper with range and i do see the comparision to a young grant hill as far as potenial. he dominated a kid named toney mitchell who plays for the brandon bass elite aau team with a bunch of jumpers mid range and dunking on him very hard( keep in mind mitchell is a top 50 kid and has bounce) Quincy you have to keep in mind most of the people here arent gonna say a kid is good unless the scouting services have them ranked high or theres a lot of write up on them, but its pretty obvious that the coaches know hence why he all of a sudden has usc, stanford, marquette, georetown, and other good schools after him. i remeber when you first talked about him and unlike these bandwagon people i didnt say much because i hadnt seen him play other then that video he had up as a soph( the competition was pretty bad). i actually spoke to sonny vaccaro and he also thinks josh has a chance to be special if he continues to develop the way he has. i wish him good look and be on the look out on a mention of him on our site. huh?..he has a very very

huh?..he has a very very nice midrange game..he was actually recruited because of his defense rebounding and midrange game..the athletic ability was just a plus..its the lil things that make the coaches and scouts say grant hill, first rounder not the jumping ability

Tell him to go to Stanford.

Tell him to go to Stanford. Dawkins needs help there because not too many athletes are capable of keeping up with the academic standards there.

cool man, I hope he is successful down the road.

Tell him to go to UCLA. IMO, learn from a Defensive minded coach since he has a good Offensive game.

Yes it does

When you compare him to Grant Hill...I'm not trying to be so critical man...I wish the best for him...I hope he does make it into the NBA, but there's obviously a lot of things he has to work on...Just like any other player. I hope he does go to USC because I can watch all the pac-10 games (I live in Oregon) so I can see him play.

no one ever said he doesnt

no one ever said he doesnt have things to work on..just liek most highschool players..i didnt pump him up all i did was repeat what other scouts and coaches said. i just noticed that a post awhile back someone mentioned a coach comparing a hs player potenially to a nba player( actually twice perry jones was the other) and even though no one had checked out his highlights, youtube clips, or seen him play not one person said..naw he wont be tat good or comparable to this or that player, so how is this ase any different. it would be different if i just said hes comparable to grant hill but when scouts said it and dawkins ( who im pretty sure would know more then anyone) said it youand a coupel other automaticlly say naw. just find that kinda strange

The thing is

the thing is, he is your nephew, so naturally there seems to be a little bias coming from what you say. I wish your nephew all the best for the future but comparing someone so young to grant hill will get some negative feedback, especially since most people on here haven't seen josh play. That is also why people may be more to accept any comparisons of perry jones to an NBA player, since we've seen him play, and we know that he can ball

Dont let him go to Montana

Dont let him go to Montana he will not be a drafted if he doesnt go to a major school. I have no idea whos recruiting him but make sure its someone that will get him to the league. It doesnt have to be a BCS school he could go somewhere like Gonzaga, Xavier, Memphis, etc... but make sure its somewhere that he gets exposer that way if he wants to play in the NBA he will get the oppurtunity to later.

erifoskey06...the

erifoskey06...the comparisions mentioned and the nba first round comment was made by other people not me..of course im biased so im gonna agree but im not the one who came up with all that..college coaches, scouts and a couple nba players did..as far as the perry jones thing..before people even saw any clips of him play not one person doubted if he was good or not. no one had a negitive thing to say, this was before anyone had seen him play..everyone was like..i heard hes good, who has seen him play, hes being compared to so and so " not one negitive comment even though they hadnt seen him play..and this was all from just the nbdraft.net writer saying how good he is. the peopel who said the things about my nephew were, johnny dawkins, kevin o'neil, johnthompson, travis ford the third, dave telep(scouts.com),and scott something from, rivals who interviewed him while in vegas. these are the poeple who said these things about him, no one here saw him play yet the negitive comments came..you see what im saying now. i can understand if they saw him play before then said something but they never saw him play then dismissed the praise that established people said about him. just makes no sense to me. im not saying just believe what i say but at the same time you cant shoot it down just because you happened to not see him play

That Harvard degree...

I know he can do much better than Harvard in terms of a basketball school, but the clout of a Harvard degree will get him a long way in life. I'd definitely consider it. He'd get a ton of playing time, have great stats (against mediocre competition), and would have a degree from one of best schools in the world in his back pocket for the rest of his life. A basketball career, NBA or overseas, can be fleeting and is certainly not guaranteed.

Thought I would update you

Thought I would update you folks on what I am hearing on Josh Huestis’s recruitment. This comes from a few sources, but the major source is from Eric Bossi from Scout.com who writes for the USC and Stanford scout site among others.

Josh took an official visit to USC last week end and seemed to really enjoy the trip. It sounds like a lot of his concerns about USC – they face NCAA sanctions – and its coaches were answered. Here is a quote about his trip.

“I had a great time. I got to meet all the players, other recruits and the coaches. I really liked everybody,” Huestis told SC Playbook. “There’s been those rumors circulating about Coach O’Neill and how he is as a coach and person, I got to see for myself and he’s a great guy.”

I have also heard that Josh has started hosting in home visits with college coaches. I hear Harvard was in for an official visit this past Wednesday, Oregon State was scheduled to be in yesterday (Thursday), with Colorado coming in today (Friday), USC will visit Sunday, Stanford in on the 14th and Rice on the 15th. Additionally, Georgetown and Gonzaga are trying to schedule home visits also. Rivals.com is reporting that Josh will be visiting Harvard this weekend (Sept. 11-13) but I believe the trip is scheduled for next week-end (Sept 18-20). I believe Josh would also like to set up an official visit with Stanford.

i think that pretty much

i think that pretty much shows that unlike these top scout sites and slam his site only pumps up the obvious players and not the sleepers nor hidden gems. you might need to tell him thats not gonna cut if if he ever wants his site to be as big as the one you work for jakari

i said to tell him to go to UCLA

It's not a big deal to me really, I just rather have the scouts on big sites talk about him b4 family. I wanna get a unbiased opinion.

he marked them off the

he marked them off the list...actually this all started from me saying what other nba players and college coaches said and telling people what sites to go to to read about it (scouts, rivals, espn) or just google his name...of course thats when the hating started because of him not being on the front page of alot of sites, even though he made the front page of scouts.com and was ranked as this summers number one sleeper. of course my opinions are biased thats why im putting up articles and quotes from other people. then theres the TheAlchemist who claims that hes not even family even though i recall mentioning him 2 years ago got laughed at. then earlier this year and got laughed at again becaus ebeing gatordae player of the year as a jr in montana wasnt taken seriously. actually i do recall you mentioning when i posted that but i think it was something liek i havnt hear of him and gotta hear more which is understand able.

update..my nephew just

update..my nephew just picked stanford to play college basketball over georgetown, usc, oregon st,oklahoma state, harvard, etc

by: Wyndam Makowsky from the stanford dailey

While the news of Jeremy Green’s suspension continues to percolate, Stanford basketball did receive some good news on Thursday night: Forward Josh Huestis has committed to the Cardinal. He is a part of the ever-growing and impressive recruiting Class of 2010, which was ranked No. 11 before Huestis made his collegiate intentions known and may now crack the top 10 nationally.

Huestis, the 2009 Montana Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior, has a three-star rating from Scout.com and is tabbed as the No. 21 small forward in his class. Both ESPN and Rivals.com label him as a power forward, with the World Wide Leader giving him a high grade of 90.

Huestis stands 6-foot-7, 210 pounds, and became a national prospect after an impressive summer of camps and tournaments. As a junior, he averaged a double-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks per game.

His final decision came down to Harvard and Stanford. He is the Cardinal’s fifth commitment.
