Kahn said Rubio's agent, Dan Fegan, delivered a package of endorsement deals and sponsorships that helped make the NBA deal attractive enough for Rubio and Joventut to enter into an agreement on Saturday night.

He had a set of deals ready for him. In 2 years I highly doubt those endorsements and sponsorships will still be there. I think in the long run he cost himself some money.

I also dont see him going to Minny in 2011. What if he turns around and gets another deal from another spanish club and accepts it? I think IMO, he wanted to be moved to another team.

He was planning on coming over if he was a top 3 pick.

A lot of players do this. I'm not positive why. Maybe now he doesn't have to worry about the draft in the future, all he has to worry about is getting better.

why get so pissied..it was obvious on draft night that minny knew there was a good chance rubio wasnt comming this year..for those who this comes as a shock too ya'll must not have been paying much attention the past couple of weeks. Plus for those who are saying" This isnt a game dont put youre name in the draft if youre not gonna come".. What about the other euros who did the same thing after they got drafted?..i didnt see ya'll getting bent out of shape about them or what about the guys who put there name in the draft the tea, drafts them then the team tells them to stay overseas a couple of years even though the kid put there name in the draft that year so they could come play that year?..why arent ya'll bit%hing and moaning about this isnt a game the team shouldnt do that?..cant have a double standard its either wrong or not take youre pick dont just get mad about it when it doesnt go the way you want it to go!!!!

Dude was 16

His father had to sign the contract. Im pretty sure he didn't have a choice but didn't mind getting paid 900k a year for doing what he loves. Their lawyers and his father were stupid to agree to a contract with a buyout 8 times larger then what he was getting paid though.

We get that, but you (and many others), are flat out hating on him without any real reason other than it's your opinion.

As for the article yes he has endorsment deals to help pay for it but it was still his money that was paying for the buy-out. Now it is off his hands, completely paid off by his new team.

I think Rubio was leading

I think Rubio was leading them on. And I agree with whoever said he was saying the right things about Minnesota but thinking down on them is right. There might not be evidence on the internet about him dogging out Minnesota, but lets not be naive, if he realy thought highly of Minnesota he would be there. I promise you, he wouldve found a way to play in the NBA if he was drafted by New York, LA, or another huge market. He also shouldve tried to get more endorsements, he couldve easily paid the buyout off he wouldve either had been more aggressive looking for endorsements or hiring an agent that would gotten him some. I 99.9% sure Rubio never wanted to play in Minnesota at all because he couldve found a way to get the buyout setteled.

teams

teams should be allowed to send them there, they make the decision if they have a job or not. if the team wants them to develop overseas or in the d- league, so be it.. but the point is the players should not be able to choose what happens... its like having a job and just not going for a month because you chose too, company would not like that now would they?

QHaynes did

Bring up a fact that Rubio did say he didn't want to play in a cold city. But then he said he would love to play in NY. I guess he wouldn't have mind the NY cold but the Minnesota cold was too much for him to take.

thing is. This isnt a

thing is. This isnt a regular job..teams and players have the option of comming over or not..whats fair one way is fair the other..yeah the teams have the option and wanna make sure the players develop but at the same time this is the players career and a player should ( as we see they already can) be able to do what he think is best for the PLAYER because the team is gonna do whats best for the TEAM. if that means get more money overseas or not wanting to spend money on a buy out. as far as endorsements theres a site(cant remeber which) which showed that endorsement money isnt haded out like it used to be, rubios agent went looking high and low for as much endorsment money as he could. like i said before minny knew what was most likely gonna happen which s why they drafted flynn. and if you wanna use how the real world job is then in the real world if a job wants you then its youre choice if you wanna go to that job or pick another job that will pay you more money and knowing the other job will still be there when you decide to go there, if you wanna use how the real world job works ( no contract was signed with minny)

You guys were saying he is staying in Spain because he didn't want to play in Minnesota, and then interpreting it as fact. False motive.

1. We did stop arguing. You're beating a dead horse.

2. He is gay to you? Do you have something against gay people? Is that supposed to be an insult?

3. Whatever you want to think. Rubio can do no right in the eyes of some.

1. I'm not reading 70 comments, i got through about 20 before I posted, my bad.

2. No, just the word I picked. Anohter choice would have been d-bag.

If he did play in the NBA this season, people would have been pissed that he came over when he wasn't ready. It's nothing new though, people have been hating on Rubio since way before all the buy-out drama.

If he goes to Minnesota

If he goes to Minnesota after all of this it will just make everyone madder. I mean, he wouldve went back overseas to waste years just to go back to the team that drafted him. Ridiculous. He will come back but it will be to a totally different, and big market team.

He is eighteen years old and

He is eighteen years old and he said he mom did not like the weather. Yall forget that it was probably his parents that was making decisions. Rubio is young enough to be swayed by both the Timberwolves and his parents but he chose his parents. Even David Kahn said as much. Being young he was probably feeling weird about going to Minnesota but with everything going on it was not able to happen. When they did come up with an offer his parents probably told him it was not a good move. He will come over when the time is right like others and Minnesota was stupid for drafting two point guards but maybe if they can turn Rubio into a high draft pick and some help to add to what they have, I will change my tune. They took a gamble and I can respect them for daring to make a bold move or two.

now that rubio isnt comming

now that rubio isnt comming over there drafting 2 pg's move has paid off. so on top of having flynn they have a nice chip in rubio who they can trade for a very good player without having the teams even see if he can be a star or even a good player in the nba or not. or on the other hand its possile that flynn doesnt turnout to be great but good enough to start on most teams and rubio comes over and is good enough to be a star in which case flynn is a good chip to trade

the reason he aint come here

the reason he aint come here to me because he scared of competiton and he know flynn was goint to take the starting spot from him in practice he wanted the key to the franchise handed to him rubio is overrated nothing about him wilds me he wont even top 5 point guard in the 09 draft to me.

I feel like

iguoldola9 is right...if he REALLY wanted to be in minnesota...he would be there
if LA or NY drafted him he would've made it work like AI9 said
he led them on...said the right things so people wouldn't get angry...and made the total opposite move
and butidonthavemoney...are you like ricky rubio's butt buddy or something? quit defending him
you can't accept or listen to anybody else when clearly everyone agrees
on another note...if rubio feels like he'll be more ready for the league by doing this, than by all means he made the right choice for him
but really...when he comes back he's not playing in minnesota, that's pretty much why he's staying in spain another two years...so he can have a shot at another market, or is it because he truly wants to prepare himself?
Which is it? one or the other or a combo of the two? I'm pretty sure it's the market

its not up to him if he is gonna play for minnie or not when he comes over..they still will have his rights..its up to the team if they wanna trade him or not...when he comes over hes obligated to 3 years and a team option for the fourth( or 2 with the team option for the third) with the team
