I so sick of everyone calling Oden a bust!!!!!!!!!
Seriously his played one frechin year cut him some slack!!
His a center meaning it will take longer for him to devolpe plus he just came back from a serious injury and without playing basketball for a whole yer.
He averages 15 and 11 per 36 minutes that is better then dwights rookie year of 13 and 11 (i know he was just out of highschool but he was also injury free so that situation i think is better) and about the same as yao mings rookie season of 16 and 10 per 36 minutes.
He should learn a better understanding of how to not foul.
Yes Kevin Durant might possible have a better career but i still belive by the end Oden will be Blinging with his rings
So i ask you why you hate on Oden?
ODEN IS NOT A BUST BUT IF HE DONT PRODUCE THIS YEAR OR THE YEAR AFTER THEN I CONSIDER HIM A LOCK TO BE A BUST. COME ON LOOK AT IT HE WAS BEING COMPARED TO RUSSELL, EWING AND ALL THE OTHER GREAT CENTERS EVER. YES HES BEEN INJURED BUT THAT NOT OUR FAULT. YOU KNOW HOW MANY VERY GOOD PLAYERS HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED A BUST BECAUSE OF INJURIES OR THEM NOT PLAYING UP TO THE PEOPLE THEY WERE COMPARED TOO. GRANT HILL FOR EXAMPLE WHEN HE WAS IN DETROIT AND WE HE LEFT FOR ORLANDO HE WAS THOUGHT TO BE SOME WHAT LIKE SCOTTIE PIPPEN. BUT LOOK AT HIM NOW THEY CALL HIM A SOLID VETERN. LOOK AT DESHAWN STEVENSON HE WAS COMPARED TO JORDAN COMING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL. BUT HES AN ABOVE AVERAGE PLAYER FOR AN UNDERACHEIVEN WIZARDS TEAM. ODEN IS NOT A BUST YET BUT YES VERY CLOSE TO BEING IF HE DOESNT PRODUCE QUICK. AND WITH KEVIN DURANT PLAYING LIKE HE IS, I KNOW ALOT OF PORTLAND FANS ARE WONDERING WHAT IF THEY HAD DURANT AND ROY. LOOKS TO ME LIKE ANOTHER SAM BOWIE (ODEN), AND MICHAEL JORDAN (DURANT) SITUATION.
didnt average 15 and 11 in the nba just face it the reason why you are saying that is because your a blazers fan and you dont want him to be the next sam bowie you guys got joel he is good but just face it he is going to be the next sam bowie
So true this dude is 21 years old, he has plenty of time to develop into a great player. You can't expect him to come in and be like another Tim Duncan averaging 20/10 in his first season it will take him time. Granted KD will be seen as a better player most likely but he can still be a great piece on a Championship team. (I'm not a Blazers fan)
said the same thing about sam bowie
Its a bit quick to throw in the towel yes there is alot of sam bowie qualities but at the same time what about robert parish in his first season he average 9 and 7 and he improved can't oden do the same???
i agree his numbers are abut the same per 36 minutes as Dwight Howards hes already one of the best rebounders in the league and will score if he stays on the floor, and the rason he couldnt stay on the floor is Blake would let his man go by and he would have to guard him but now Miler is a better defender. if nothing else he can be a rebounding beast and be a really good defender hes already one of the best rebounders in the game.
Oden has been oft injured, but still has one of the best rebounding rates in the NBA with limited mobility. All Oden has to do is stay healthy so he can regain his mobility and quickness back, and with his enormous size, he can dominate. Honestly, Oden's offensive game is about as polished as Dwight Howard's, difference is, Howard stays healthy and maximizes his athleticism. I still remember some of the blocks Odens had when his legs were good and he could block shots mid flight. I remember the guy who won the Gatorate Player of the Year, TWICE! Healthy permitting, Oden will be an all star. Only problem is will he stay healthy? I vote yes.
had a solid rookie campaign as he dropped off towards the end of the season and not one had called him a bust yet, then the injury happened in preseason and missed his whole sophmore year, guess what?
BUST! His 3rd year, he played inconsistent, got inconsistent minutes, was not loved by Larry Brown, and traded to a team where he got no playing time. In Summer League, he was performing pretty good, but that could be a sign of things to come or not. He is still considered a bust and I doubt he plays much with Lamar Odom, Walton, Vujacic, and Artest ahead of him. So the Bust Tag will stick with him.
Are you comparing Adam Morrison to Greg Oden??????????!!!!!!!!!!!! Morrison's problem isnt just health. Its everything that makes him a liabilty at the NBA level, below average strength, agility, athleticism, that will make him strictly a scorer off the bench at the NBA level.
I'm trying to say how the bust tag works, they don't care if you were injured or not. Fans expect alot from some Rookies, especially if drafted Number 1 Overall
I dont think Odens a bust yet if he stay healthy for the rest of his career i can still see him being a top 3 center.
If Oden doesn't average at least a double double with 2+bpg next season people will label him a bust. All he has to do is stay on the floor...Which is a lot harder than it appears lol.
as long as Oden can put together 2 or 3 healthy season now he will not be a bust. He has equal physical gifts to some degree as Howard but Howard maybe slightly more athletic while Oden has him on strength and reach. Also Oden is a legit Center size and Howard is slighty shorter than most centers but his strength and athleticism allows him to play bigger. Like he said himself hopefully he is getting most of his injuries out the way now.
They didn't say the same thing about Sam Bowie? He was a proven college player who was in his early 20's when he came into the league and was productive right off the bat (although not at a Jordanesque level) his first three seasons he averaged close to a double double, injuries killed his career, but he bounced back to have some good years with the Nets, that is the only comparison to Bowie you can make at this point(injuries) and the fact he is a Blazer drafted before a productive scorer. Being drafted before Michael Jordan is what vaulted Bowie into infamy, not that he was a terrible player that was a bust
his rookie year he averaged 11, 8.5 and 2.5, similar to Oden's but great shot blocking numbers, Bowie was no where near the athlete Oden is, he was 7'2'' and very lean, They just weren't that similar of players, If Oden wasn't on the Blazers no one would be making those comparisons, Maybe im biased because i think Oden will pan out, he is healthy and in great shape and looked very good working out with team USA this summer, If injuries kill his career then i'll give in to the Bowie comparisons, but after his rookie year i just don't see it
I think this is the deciding year on whether or not Oden will be a bust or not.
for one morrisons reasons are injury because he actually played pretty well in his first year minus the shooting percentage which most rookies struggle with. 2 i dont think oden is a bust yet but he is very close to the cross roads and the thing you have to worry about is he's starting to look injury prone. oden is not very lean if you watched him he looked pretty over weight last season which probably had to do with being injured. the weight he carried looked a lil too big for him to play at.
Oden is not a bust yet,
he has a chance not to be one,
he is still a rookie,
the only reason that people call him a bust is because he was drafted next to durant
he can be a bust, yes,
but he can also still prove himself
remember he has only played one year,
and his numbers as a ookie are very good
yes durant would have been a better pick
but he still has a chance to be a star
I'm not an Oden fan, but I would like to see him reach his potential just so I could occasionally see a great center battle sometime soon. I wouldn't call him a bust. I was never happy with the move to select him over Durant, but again I think a lot of people are claiming that now. He will never be a great offensive player (too clumsy and uncoordinated), which isn't always a bad thing. Dwight Howard has a long way to go on the offensive end, but guys that can score without dominating the ball are special. I think he has the potential to maybe score between 12-15 pts a game and maybe 13 rebounds and 3 blocks. Who knows, he may be able to top that with the lack of centers left in the league. If he can stay on the court, he will get better. So is he a bust? Not yet. In a few more years if he doesn't produce he will be. Being the number 1 pick, getting picked ahead of the guy that will be the best player from the draft and playing for a team that has championship aspirations is a recipe for being a bust.
something all the people who are calling oden a bust are forgetting is the injury that took him out for a year was a micro-fracture injury. the same one that Amare had. remember how long it took for him to get back to form? and he was one of the top players in the league before it happened. Micro-fracture surgery is no joke and some players never return to form. if you really want to know how oden will turn out, you'll probably have to wait till his fourth year to know for sure.
I agree with whoever said Oden has about 2-3 years left to prove himself before he is a bust. I also agree that it would be nice to get some old school back to the basket center battles, so that make me want to see Oden healthy. But I knew portland should've picked urant over oden. Durant is going to be a great player who i think has championship/franchise player written all over him. I think OKC's squad is just as impressive as Portlands in terms of young talent, they just need 2 more years to gel and watch out.
dude is a bust lol get ova yourself
