Who is the better prospect? Harrison Barnes or John Wall and why?

john wall...because

john wall...because whether you wanna believe it or not PG's will get picked before wings. PG's of Wall's caliber don't come around as much as SF's of Barnes caliber, who come around once or twice every recruiting yr. that's the main reason for me, without breaking down attributes.

Barnes

Harrison Barnes is a complete player with crazy upside. Not since Melo has a wing shown that no matter how you defend him, you can't stop him. He doesn't force anything and scores in the flow of the game. He's Brandon Roy at 6'8" and could eventually be a top 3 SG in the league. With his length, height, post moves, jumpshot, handles, his body have to catch up to his game, and under a college strength program, the sky is the limit for this guy.

Wall, on the other hand, is so raw that I question whether he'll reach that lofty potential. When I hear he's as good a prospect as Derrick Rose, if not better, I cringe, because at this point in Rose's career, he was more polished, a better passer, finisher, and a much better point guard. Wall's growth as a player has slowed some because he can use his length and athleticism to get by people, but doesnt need to use a jumpshot, or hesitations, or pump fakes. I can say confidently that plenty of PG of Wall's caliber have emerged, Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Paul, Williams, and thats just since 05. Wall to me is like Bayless with more explosiveness, but without the polish, and like Bayless, I question whether or not he can reach his maximum potential.

I agree 100% about Barnes, but you my friend are cutting Wall short, no way Deron Williams has potential anything close to what Wall has, CP3 isn't nearly as athletic or quick, Wall has been viewed as a better version of Rose, and Wall is a pure PG unlike Westbrook., Wall screams superstar

Crazy

I may be crazy, but I think Barnes is going to start the next era of great players. Like Jordan, LeBron, & Bird. Barnes has actually played in my town, so I have seen him. To me he looks like LeBron or Melo only shorter by a tad.

I dont get that they are 2 totally different players, and also I don't think Barnes has nearly that much superstar potential, not even lose to LeBron's potental coming out of H.S.

Wall is all potential

Deron Williams is one of the best points in the NBA right now. CP3 is one of the best points ever (in his small career) and has lead the NBA is steals and assist the past two years. Wall is a high school kid with great athleticism and awesome length, but no jumpshot, poor pacing, turnover prone, and struggles with stronger opponents. Wall hasn't show me any skills that separate him on the NBA level. He doesnt have the poise or winning MO that Rose had, nor the defensive intensity and complete versatility of Rondo. And Westbrook is a point guard, at some point people will believe it.

The players I mentioned are great point guards, Wall is a freak athlete and his skills all derive from that, and as high as his ceiling may be, his basement is as likely an outcome for this guy. He's not even a better point guard than Brandon Knight in 2010. He a better athlete, but Knight understanding of the flow of the game is far superior..

Barnes is not Roy

Roy has point guard skills...Barnes does not. Bad comparison. Anyhow, I would take Wall...He may not be as polished, but he clearly has more upside. How can you compare Wall to Bayless? Bayless has as much court vision as Joel Pryzbilla...John Wall is more of a pure PG than Bayless. As a Blazer fan who watches Bayless, I would know. Harrison Barnes, to me, is a 17-20ppg type of guy. Which is very good. He might not be a superstar, but I see him as more of a borderline all-star.

wall

I actually find myself agreeing with Qhaynes. Athleticism and speed doesn't mean anything if you don't understand the game, play with consistency or control. Basketball iq, understanding of the game, intangibles and overall work ethic and attitude are so overlooked in todays prospects. Knight is way better as a point in 2010. Barnes' understanding of the game and flow of the game are vastly superior to that of Wall, and I think Barnes is not nearly as raw as Wall is. Barnes also has more of a likelyhood of reaching his potential. Doesn't it raise flags to anyone that Wall is a fifth-year senior or that he was caught breaking into a house last year either? Does it really just matter how high he can jump and how fast he can run?

everybody that isn't that

everybody that isn't that athletic and are solid all around players always get compared to Brandon Roy. harrison barnes is more like Danny Granger to me. I think he'll be good but I think Wall has more ability. watch how he passes the ball at UK next year. they said the same things about Rondo when he was a sr in HS and look how good a passer he is now. John Wall will be a great great player.

Yeah, thats true

Except Roy has a 40.5 inch vertical. I agree with you man, I've seen some games with Wall and he was amazing. He is a fantastic passer (a little out of control). He has some things to work on, but the upside is there.

Wall

Wall can make those passes because he gets doubled on his drives and he can make quick passes. But drives and dishes arent the MO in college or the NBA. College you need to pass and move, not the other way around, and in the NBA is pick and rolls/pops. Critiquing Wall as an NBA prospect, he's lacking in a lot of key areas, shooting, off the ball movement. Can he even play without the ball?

both are great

But lets be honest, Wall is the superior prospect strictly because ofd his athleticism. Harrison Barnes is a very good athlete, but lets be real, John wall is one of the most impressive athletes i've ever seen. And that's why he is the better prospect because he has more room to improve. Not taking anything away from Barnes because he is a stud, but Wall is in a class of his own

Baron Davis comparison

Baron Davis at 18 years old was just as athletic as John Wall, now he isn't but he's also in his 30's, at UCLA he was an electric player and could flat out drive and dunk, and always more of a true point guard than Wall is, I still take Wall though, the Rondo and Rose comparisons are the most accurate in my opinion, Barnes is a top notch prospect, and he is going to be a good pro too, but elite pg's are harder to find than sg's so i take Wall

The drive and dish is the

The drive and dish is the system Kentucky runs so therefore that is the way they will play in college. If you dont think Wall will be lethal in the pick and roll when he already is unstoppable without the pick, you need to watch John Wall play basketball because its obvious you havent. We are talking about a lethal 1st,2nd and 3rd step..he doesnt need a pick and roll to get to the basket, the pick and roll will just make him more effective.

exactly. Fab melo, Perry

exactly. Fab melo, Perry Jones, and even Brandon knight show more an ability to get to the Nba and be stars than Harrison Barnes. I feel the only way you could question who is the better prospect between barnes and wall is if you haven't seen the 2 play. wall stands out that mcuh more than barnes.

i dont know if i was a nba

i dont know if i was a nba gm i would take whichever one fall to me. I didnt know this many people didnt like john wall/ Harrison barnes is good but he just isnt that fast to me he reminds me of paul pierce. I still would take him in a heatbeat and john wall just needs a jumper after that the sky is the limit for him. He got the length and ehtleticisim to guard point guards and shooting guards the speed to get into the paint.

Harrison Barnes reminds me

Harrison Barnes reminds me of like a mix of Grant Hill and Ray Allen.

John Wall reminds me of Maurice Cheeks to be honest.

I

Seen Wall play and he did not stand out the game I saw. Though I did get the sense he is a point guard. I have never seen Barnes play a game just highlights, and I can't evaluate him off of that.

So Wall passes the eye test

Everyone knows he's a great athlete... that and potential are the two words are he most associated with Wall. He stands out cause he can get by anyone at the high school level and finish with and emphatic dunk. But can he play the complete game? At this point, its an emphatic no. He can't excute the pick and roll, he struggles in the half court, he can't really shoot. Again I'd take Brandon Knight over Wall, and definitely Barnes over Wall, because Barnes knows what to do against more athletic players. Wall will meet players that can guard his drive, and he won't be able to just drive and dunk on the bigs in college, so we'll see how impressive his finishing ability really is.

thank you scout.. most peopel on here have never seen barnes play except you tube highlights but they are quick to side with whatever they have read or youtube. personally ive always felt you should see a person play before giving a definate opinion instead of just jumping on the band wagon from a highlight tape or cuz so and so said this or that
