Daryl Moery a genius, who do you thing the best GM in the league is?
I agree Morey is one of the better GMs in the league, but I wouldnt go as far as saying he's the best... He deserves a lot of the credit for the Rockets success, but I think a lot of what they've been able to do is because of Rick Adelman. As long as they have adelman, they'll always be a solid squad., so to me, it's a combo of those two guys behind the Rockets taking it to the Blazers last year, and stretching the Lakers to 7.
I still think the Battier deal was the right thing to do (I think the deal worked really well for both teams). Morey had two stars, TMac and Yao, and he needed to put another veteran role player around them so he found his guy. Granted he did have to give up a really promising player, like I said, the deal gave each side what it valued more at the time.
You also have to give props for Aaron Brooks, Chuck Hayes, Carl Landry, Jermaine Taylor (although that hasn't proven to be great just yet)... I also really liked the Lowry-Alston deal. Not only do I think Lowry is going to be a good player, but it allowed Brooks to get into the starting role. I think those guys are like Yin and Yang. Brooks gives them the more offensive minded guy, while Lowry is bigger and can come in to guard bigger guards.
My pick is Sam Presti, though. In only a few years we're talking about KD (which was an obvious pick, but still, Portland didn't make it!) Then you've got Jeff Green, who is a great complement to KD, IMO. KD has the scorer's mentality, Green has the unselfish mentality. I think Green's being a tweener will be overcome as more and more teams go to 3/4 guys at the '4' spot, and as he gets more time in the weightroom.
Then you throw on Russell Westbrook, who has one of the highest potentials of any guy in the league... No one thought he should be top 5, but Presti took his guy and look how it turned out. I'm excited to see how much he improved again this year.
Again, Russell has more of the scorer's mentality, so Presti goes out an finds a more unselfish backcourt mate for him~ James Harden. Another great pick. Those two LA-area guys should make up a really strong backcourt once they've played together for a whole season.
Don't forget picking up Kyle Weaver, Serge Ibaka, and trading NOTHING for Sefolosha...
The only questionable deal he's made in my mind, was trading delonte west for basically nothing... I think Delonte is a solid player, and getting nothing for him.......... I donno. I guess he did get rid of Wally in the process. WE'll also see how BJ Mullens turns out
Bryan Colangelo Best GM. He turned phoeinx into a powerhouse couple seasons ago, and it seems like he is trying to do the same for both teams. Only GM to win Executive of the year in both conferences
I think David Khan is a smart GM. Donnie Walsh has a amazing track record and Mitch Kupchick (spelling) is a genius in LA
he started out with the 4th pick in the draft and walked out with arguably the 2 best prostpects in that draft.
OTIS SMITH HANDS DOWN............BEING A GM IS MORE THEN ABOUT DRAFTING
How do the Rockets have the best GM in the league? You lost me on that one.
who's the best GM in your opinion? GSW GM? hahahaah
Just some off season blodder. I believe Morey is Billy Bean of the NBA. His thinking is revolutionary as far as NBA GM's are considered. Look at his track record in the next couple years you all will agree with me.
I was just curious to see why you thought he was the best GM is all. ? Rockets GM made a bad decesion in this years' draft IMO by giving up a future 2nd round pick & spending $6 million dollars to acquire Budinger, Taylor, & Llull. Personally I think Budinger is a bench player at best if he even makes it in the league. Taylor is solid but looks to be just a scorer to bring off the bench. Should've save that cash.
I'm not sure who the best GM is. I think the Bulls GM is up there. They are financially in good shape, made solid trades, & have drafted pretty smart in recent years.
Sam Presti and Brian Colangeo is up there with me. Sam Presti made a lot of moves i would make and I like that. You get Harden and Mullen is this last draft. You get Westbrook and White in the other draft and before that Durant and Green. Also you pick up Livingston, trade for Sefolossa and pick up Weaver. Some of this moves i would not have done because I did know much about the player like Weaver but Livingston was a no brainer and Sefoloosa is solid. In the last few draft he has draft a least 2 solid players. That is enough for a starting 5 and a some bench fillers. They just need to get bigger and better defensively and more experience. I believe if Mullen can be decent in two years, They are one of the best things in the West. They are long and have , many shooters and scoring so playing a frantic pace would hurt the opposition and they would not need to be bigger is they can play faster on d and offense.
Mitch has done a stellar job, two straight finals trips and more championships to come!!!
on paper Rudy Gay for Shane Battier is one of the worst trades in recent memory, but Battier is the heart and soul of that team
You shouldn't have said it...
Seriously...Everyone goes against Morey and his deals on this site or so it seems. They really go against the Battier and Gay trade...and they think we had a bad draft...which doesn't make sense when plenty of others I've seen gave the Rockets praise for what they did, but whatever. I'm done defending both trades, it's ridiculous.
It's tough to call one man the best GM, but I'd rank Pritchard and Morey as having the best front offices.
These guys have influences from all around them - nothing a GM does is without consultation.
Best GM ever, I would have to say Jerry West...Best GM now, I would have to say it's a toss up between Sam Presti and Kevin Pritchard...I love the job Presti been doing with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Pritchard been doing with the Trailblazers..Morey is an idiot for trading away Rudy Gay...Rudy Gay, Tracy McGrady, and Yao, would've been a sick trio, but Morey had to be an idiot and trade Gay for a role player in Battier...Rudy has the higher ceiling and All-Star potential, you can't trade a player like that for a complimentary player, no excuse.
Morey didn't make the Rudy Gay deal... Carroll Dawson did
thanks big milstead, i definitely thought that was morey. guess not
Masrock- If David Kahn picks Ricky Rubio, Jonny Flynn and John Wall with 3 consecutive top 6 picks, he deserves to be fired. IMO.
LOL, you're not worth discussing anything with.... I thought WE WERE FOR SURE GONNA SIGN JOE JOHNSON! AND WE'RE ALL IDIOTS FOR NOT KNOWING THAT! that seems likes too many guys who will need the ball in their hands, especially when all we should be doing is feeding Al in the post. IMO, we need some outside shooters to complement Big Al's game.
Hahahahahhahah the TWolves should draft WALL & play him at SG.
