Who would you have rather have??
I think Marvin's deal is one that looks bad at first but a few years down the road if he ever plays up to his potential we might think the Hawks got a bargain at only 8 million per. Charlie V is what he is IMO. He will hustle and make a good effort on D and get you some good points and rebounds. I would take Marvin based on his upside, and also based on the fact that he fits into the Hawks' system well, Charlie V is an uncertainty in Detroit as of right now.
To me, it depends on what you need on your team... I actually think Charlie V would be a better fit for the Hawks, because they already have 2 athletic, defensive forwards (josh smith, Horford) so maybe they could use a little more offensive punch.
That said, I think Williams is a much more well-rounded player. I'd take him for sure.
The hawks have a very talented player at there disposal that the havent use in the right way. Marvin has the potential to become an allstar but i just dont see it happening while he's in Alanta with its current roster. But i would still take Marvin anday of the week.
Looks we are pretty split on this. Guess we will have a better idea after the season. I don't see a huge statistical progression being there for Marvin Williams this season with the Hawks already having weapons there and now with the addition of Jamal Crawford, Marvin's shots could go down.
Charlie will have an opportunity to be one of the go to guys in Detroit in the post. Right now the only post presence is Prince with his back to the basket.
Not to say Charlie is the better player but I think he will have more of an impact on Detroit in the next few years than Williams. His minutes will certainly go up from the 26 minutes a game he played last year in detroit.
Williams would be a great fit on a team that could feature him more.
If Mike Woodson could actually coach!....Marvin Williams would be an impact player. But instead, he uses him as a spot up shooter and defensive stopper (depending on the matchup). He could be a player thatflirts with 20 ppg if he's used right.
Marvin Williams is NOT a 20ppg player and I dont think he will ever be that type of player.... He is too limited on offense to put up 20ppg....His handle is not that great, he doesnt really have the ability to create off the dribble effectively, his 3pt shooting is below average, and he doesnt get to the freethrow line enough....
If he's used the right way he is. He is not a below average 3 point shooter, and his handle isnt that great, but he does get to the rim in one-one-ones. Thats why I said if he's used the right way he could FLIRT with 20 ppg. He isnt being used the right way now, and he would be a great player if the Hawks had a better coach or he went to another team.

Who do you think will end up being the better player??
My Pistons signed Charlie who is more of a power forward (plays on outside a lot and is known to have suspect defense). Williams was a restricted free agent so that prevented a lot of teams from going after him. Pistons also have Prince but there have been rumors of trading him all offseason.
