MOUTH OF WILSON, Va. – Five hours before No. 1 Oak Hill Academy took the court in its regular-season finale against Southwest Christian (Little Rock, Ark.) Tuesday, Warriors guard Dwayne Bacon was candid and absolute.

“There’s no way we’re not getting that record,” said Bacon, a Florida State signee. “We want it too bad.”

He scored 40 points in Oak Hill’s, 118-66, win to ensure that the Warriors remained undefeated and set the school record for wins in a season with 45.

The Warriors went 44-0 in 2012.

“It feels great to get this win and it’s a major accomplishment,” Oak Hill coach Steve Smith said. “But, I’ll be honest, it was unexpected. The kids just came together and worked hard. I’m proud of them.”

Not that they needed it, but It certainly didn’t hurt that the Warriors were in the friendly confines of Turner Gymnasium. Their last loss at home was in 1997 to Redemption Christian Academy (Troy, N.Y.) when they fell victim to the hot hand of Lamar Odom, who dropped 35 points.

Next up for the Warriors is the  DICK’S Sporting Goods High School Nationals in early April.

“I hate that it’s a month away,” Smith said. “We’re playing great right now and the kids will take 17 days for spring break. We’ll get them back here and get to work on the DICK’s. This one feels good though; the guys deserve it.”
