FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW head coach Jon Coffman has announced the signing of Leo Edwards, a former Louisiana Tech student-athlete. Edwards will sit out the 2015-16 season due to the NCAA transfer rules, and will be eligible to play in the 2016-17 season.

"We are excited to have Leo join our program," said Coffman. "Leo is an experienced, skilled, scoring post. We look forward to adding a post player to our program that has two years of Division I development and experience. Leo is accustomed to winning, and joins us after spending two seasons at Louisiana Tech where they won 56 games during his two years, in addition to helping Romulus High School to a Michigan State Championship his senior season."

After redshirting in 2013-14, Edwards played the 2014-15 season for Louisiana Tech, where he saw action in 20 games. He had a career-high scoring effort in a one-point loss at Syracuse on December 14 with six points and five rebounds, while pulling down a career-high six rebounds against North Carolina State on December 23.

A native of Detroit, Edwards played at Romulus High School, and was a member of the Class A Michigan State Champions as a senior. In the title game he had 13 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots, earning All-Breslin Team honors (team made up of semifinal and final game participants). He was named to the second team Detroit News All-Area team.

Prior to his senior season he played for Cass Tech High School with IPFW signee DeAngelo Stewart.

Edwards joins a group of new Mastodons that include freshman signees Kason Harrell and Charles Ruise Jr. and junior college transfers Stewart, Racine Talla, and Andrew Poulter.
