Boys’ basketball: Loyola wins Santa Monica championship

Loyola is off to an 8-0 start, and the Cubs showed they are in top form on Saturday night, routing West Ranch, 78-58, in the championship game of the Santa Monica tournament. Parker Jackson-Cartwright was named tournament MVP. Trey Mason made four three-pointers and had 16 points.

In Santa Monica consolation games, Alemany defeated Crenshaw, 72-51. Sophomore Bennie Boatwright made four three-pointers and finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Bear Henderson added 18 points and 10 rebounds. Palisades defeated Sylmar, 72-59. Aaron Johnson scored 17 points and Ryan Ford 16.

Chaminade defeated Santa Monica, 70-67, on a three-pointer by Griffin Cohen with five seconds left. Freshman Trevor Stanback had 23 points and 15 rebounds. Jack Williams ahd 16 points and 14 rebounds.

In the Westchester tournament, Bishop Montgomery won the championship with a 70-63 win over Westchester. Lamond Murray scored 18 points. Taft defeated Peninsula, 54-47. Darius Henderson scored 14 points and Kris Yanku 13. Serra defeated Long Beach Jordan, 67-53. Tavrion Dawson scored 19 points.

In the Ocean View tournament, Mater Dei won the championship with an 87-66 win over JSerra. Elijah Brown scored 33 points and Stanley Johnson had 19. Jordan Strawberry was named tournament MVP. Crespi was beaten by Clovis West, 71-62. London Perrantes had 17 points and nine assists.

In the Moorpark tournament, Royal won the championship with a 65-43 win over Moorpark. Nick Creber scored 18 points and tournament MVP Max McCoy had 14 points and seven assists.

In the El Rancho tournament, St. John Bosco won the championship with an 89-55 win over View Park Prep. Tournament MVP Isaac Hamilton had 26 points and Tyler Dorsey had 27.

In the Arroyo Grande tournament, Thousand Oaks (8-1) won the championship with a 54-48 win over Mission Prep. Dakota Pierce had 17 points and Tanner Fanjoy 13.

In the University tournament, Buckley won the championship with a 58-57 victory over University. Tyler Coppin Carter was named tournament MVP after scoring 16 points. Austin Butler made the game-winning basket on a layup with thee seconds left. Los Angeles finished seventh after a 41-38 win over Banning. Dorsey finished fifth with a 61-60 win over Chatsworth. Campbell Hall defeated St. Bernard, 75-49, with Aaron Holiday scoring 26 points.

In the Canyon tournament, Grant defeated Highland, 68-61. Tullio Parry scored 25 points.
