As a 6’9 point forward, Isaac Bonga intrigues as an NBA prospect. He impressed scouts in June at the adidas Eurocamp with her versatility and passing for such a big player. He was also one of the top players at Basketball Without Borders where we had the opportunity to sit down with him and discuss his first trip to the US and his progression as a basketball player.

NBADraft.net: What was your impression of the camp, All Star Weekend, and New Orleans?

Isaac Bonga: Well it’s actually good like to meet guys from all over the world. It’s an honor to be here. It’s actually a good impression.

NBADraft.net:
  To somebody who’s never seen you play before, how would you describe your game to them?

Isaac Bonga: I would describe like a big point guard who can handle the ball with good court vision, good slasher, good driver. Something like that.

NBADraft.net: Is there anybody in the NBA you like and try to mimic?

Isaac Bonga: Yeah, like at the time I’m watching (Giannis) Antetokounmpo. He’s also a tall guy and yeah I like how he plays his game. I like his game.

NBADraft.net: Who would you say is the toughest player you’ve ever played against?

Isaac Bonga: That’s actually a good question…camp was actually RJ (Barrett). He’s actually really tough to play against. He’s like the same size also has speed and quickness like me so it was actually tough.

NBADraft.net: What about back home?

Isaac Bonga: Yeah at home, I played on Frankfurt. It’s my first season there and I played First Division and Second Division there.

NBADraft.net: Was this your first time in the US?

Isaac Bonga: Yeah, it was actually my first time.

NBADraft.net: What’s your impression?

Isaac Bonga: It was a really good impression. I just like know the rest from like TV shows and something like that. To be here is really really nice.

NBADraft.net: Do you have anything you want to add or work on to your game as you progress?

Isaac Bonga: On my post game and on my shot. I’m already improving my shot but I have to be like consistent though. I’m improving my shot.

NBADraft.net: At what age did you realize basketball was something you wanted to pursue?

Isaac Bonga: It was actually like 14 or something like that when I started to play on the national team. At the moment I realized I want to be a pro and earn my money with basketball.

NBADraft.net: When you made that decision, did you change your diet or workout routines at all?

Isaac Bonga: Yeah.

NBADraft.net: Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Isaac Bonga: In the NBA. I guess I see me like in the NBA being a good player, being a good leader.
