Three area teams will compete in the Sunshine Independent Athletic Association boys basketball state tournament, beginning at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at Jacksonville Potter’s House — West Oaks (22-4), Downey Christian (16-16) and Tavares Liberty Christian (6-11).

What: Sunshine Independent Athletic Association boys basketball state tournament

Where: Potter’s House Christian Academy (1150 S. Lane Ave., Jacksonville)

Schedule: Thursday – Liberty Christian vs. Oldsmar Christian, 3:15 p.m.; Arlington Country Day vs. Downey Christian, 6:45; West Oaks vs. Gainesville The Rock, 5; Miami Calusa Prep vs. Potter’s House, 8:30. Friday –winner West Oaks-Rock vs. winner ACD-Downey, 6:45 p.m.; winner Liberty-Oldsmar vs. winner Potter’s-Calusa, 8:30. Saturday – Championship, 3 p.m.

Buzz: West Oaks defeated Rock 75-70 last week. Andres Feliz and Richardson Maitre each average more than 20 points per game for the Flame.

Eighth-grader Julian Newman averages 23.9 points per game for Downey, and junior Andres Czechowicz rakes in 14.6 points, 13.3 rebounds per game. They will need to play their best against ACD, the No. 1 seed in the North Division.

Liberty Christian is rebounding this year from the loss of 7-foot-6 Tacko Fall, now at UCF. The Lions will have a challenge against Oldsmar, which is seeded first in the South Division.
