I am super high on this guy. What draws you in right away is the incredible athleticism, but there is more to his game. He is a great shooter, shooting 55% overall and 44% percent from three. While those numbers will likely dip a bit, as they did last week, he is still shooting great percentages.

The Russell Westbrook similarities are there. LaVine has been shooting up draft boards, and with good reason. This website now has him as a top 5 pick in a loaded draft. If he were to stay another year, it would most likely be nothing but beneficial to his game. If he does stay, he is my favorite for #1 pick in 2015 as of right now.

From what I’ve seen… he seems very overrated. People fall in love with his athelticism too much. I don’t think he has the mental strength to be successful in the NBA and I think he will fall in the draft (somewhat similar to Austin Rivers) The NBA will expose his true playing style.

Just look at this game play. You can tell. But I guess we’ll see when he gets drafted right?

Austin can’t shoot… And damn sure wasn’t doing those dunks. What has he done so far that makes you think he’s mentally weak?

Love this kid’s upside…but is he really 6’5 or are they giving him 2 inches because at 6’5 with a 6’6 wingspan isn’t that impressive he’s still going to have to defend elite 2 guards in the NBA. To me he’s in the class of jeremy lamb but lamb measured at a legit 6’5 in shoes with a massive 6’11 wingspan and if he comes out to be 6’3 I’ll need to see better point guard skills.. he’ll be a first rounder either way..stand out athlete with great shooting ability

I knnow he measured 6’3 in 2012 with a 6’6 wingspan but rumors are that he grew somemore during his senior year of high school and is now 6’5 probably may have a 6’8 wingspan if all this is true. He definitely looks 6’5 out there on the floor though standing next to guys I would say.

I was in awe of his 7 points 1 board and zero assists against the one good team they’ve played in Duke.  Clearly he should go #1.

Ahead of Julius Randle ?  You must be joking

Are you implying Randle will stay until the 2015 draft? Because that’s when I said LaVine could go #1 overall, not 2014.

Zach LeVine needs time and development. I can see him as an exciting player, but frankly, he has no transferable skill in the league at this point. He’s a combo guard at this point, and not in a good way. He can jump as high as he wants, but without the right ballhandling skills, he’ll never score in the league. Call me crazy, but with time, I see him as a throwback John Starks type being his ceiling. And that’s not a bad ceiling, imo.

no transferrable skill?a guy who hits 45% of his threes isnt transferrable to the nba now?i wonder do yall even watch these kids yall critque.dude is already very good at getting into passing lanes to get steals and once he’s in the open court he is very likely to finish.if you saw the mizzou game, you would also see that he stays in constant motion, working hard to get open and stays active on offense and defense.even more impressive about his shooting is the fact that alot of his 3’s come off the dribble.who is the last shooter to have elite athleticism while being able to score from deep on pull ups?how is that not nba transferrable

I don’t understand when broadcasters claim he’s a point guard. I haven’t seen anything from him that shows he’s a point guard at the college or the NBA level.

Exactly. He seems very over rated and personally I don’t this game will translate into the NBA. He is NOT going to be Russell Westbrook. There are more athletic failed PG rather than successful ones.

he runs off screens great and has a quick catch and release. I could see him getting free off screens and getting out in transition and being a kevin martin type even if his ball handling doesn’t develop much. If his ball handling does continue to develop, he could be a star.

I only saw him in the duke game, but his jumper didn’t seem that good. I hear it was an off game, but he seemed to have an odd release, like a side flick or something. He’s silly athletic though, and I can see the upside.

yeah, he does have an odd release. His elbows are far apart. It has worked so far, and he has some side release.  It has been really accurate so far, but time will tell if it keeps up. He only had one miss against duke that really looked bad where he shot from the corner and hit the side the backboard. The others misses looked in. But if he starts missing, people will surely pick apart his shot mechanics

It’s tempting to say he can play point at 6’5″ but these experiments usually end up in failure. It takes great handles to succeed as an NBA point guard. You are being double teamed by athletic freaks non stop. While he hasn’t racked up many assists, he hasn’t turned the ball over much either. His draft range is anywhere from 6-16 I think.
