I don’t understand why a lot of the members on this forum dislike or are so critical of this kid. He’s so young and has so much room and time for growth, not to mention he has vastly improved off of his rookie campaign. The thing I like most about this kid is his shot selection. I know that sounds crazy because most people think it’s one of his weaknesses, but when you’re a Wolves fan and have had to see some of the shots Kevin Martin has thrown up, LaVine looks like a pretty good decision maker. The reason I like his shot selection is because is shows how much confidence he has in his ability. If you watch a lot of the Wolves close games in the fourth quarter, LaVine is the one taking a lot of the shots to try to stay in it or maintain the lead (unfortunately the latter doesn’t happen much). And as a young player, sometimes he hits them and sometimes he doesn’t, but I believe that he will be a big time player in the future and he gets way too much criticism for a 20 year old late lottery pick that wasn’t necessarily NBA ready on draft day. Also, I believe he has what it takes to be a primary ball handler on an NBA team, obviously he doesn’t have the highest IQ, but it is definitely sufficient to be a shoot-first PG in the NBA.

What do you guys think of LaVine and what’s his future outlook?

I’m of the belief that he’s best suited to play off the ball, especially with Rubio on the team. Let LaVine run the court in transition and Rubio will find him. Granted that’s a bad shooting backcourt combo, but at this point for Minnesota it’s about developing the young players (Towns, Wiggins, LaVine, Muhammed, Dieng). Not to say he can’t improve his ballhandling and be a secondary playmaker, but he doesn’t have to get there right now.

I agree he has a lot of promise, how quickly he develops will impact his and Minnesota’s future. You’d like to see him start to breakthrough next season, but he’ll still only be 21 but if you are in the camp that expects this guy to be a consitent all-star level caliber player year 3 is crucial. I believe he will have a long career regardless, but I’m unsure if he will just be an average to good player or can he become a really good to great player. To be fair, Minnesota isn’t the greatest spot for him, shoe-hrning most of his minutes out of postion at PG, Sam Mitchell as his coach, Wiggins and Towns be the focal points. Maybe he might need a sceneory, a new team/coach who plays him to his strengths.

Regardless, he has a lot of talent, but what becomes of him is still up in the air

I think he will be a 25 ppg guy one day. Guys with his kind of mid-range/fall away game are rare. He just has to figure out how to work that within an offense.

I think he is a play-making guard, and he would be best complimented by another guard who can shoot, pass, and defend, but doesn’t need/want the ball much.

Once the twolves get a real coach he should be fine. He is fine playing 10 minutes of PG but anything more than that is pushing it. He works hard, his jumper is pretty decent, he doesn’t really get that good of looks especially if he playing PG, so his shooting percent is down some. He is doing pretty well considering the circumstances and the fact that he had never played PG prior to last year. Hopefully he works on his defense. I think he could easily be a 20ppg scorer. Worst case he is JR Smith, without any of the attitude problems and more playmaking ability. Best case is he could develop into a derozen type scorer with a three point shot in a few years.

Wolves desperately need to get a shooter in the upcoming free agency or draft. I think that is really holding their team back. They got tons of talent but not a single player who is a knockdown shooter. Could you imagine a Rubio/Lavine, Buddy Hield, Wiggins, Dieng, KAT lineup??? That has playoff potential right away with lots of room to grow.

I cannot see him averaging 25ppg. He is the third option behind Towns and Wiggins, I just cannot see any third options averaging 25ppg. Even one of the highest scoring trios in history: Run TMC – Tim and Mitch only averaged around 22ppg each.

He isn’t a very good pass first PG with good IQ and doesn’t shoot well enough to be a good starting SG

will be a terrific 3rd guard on a contending team, a change of pace guy who sparks the 2nd unit. He’s not a starting NBA 2guard.

a couple questions here, do you see wiggins developing into a 3 or a 2 guard?

Also if somehow the wolves get the first pick and draft Simmons as he is the favored number one option, Would you want to trade rubio and have lavine start as your PG but have simmons as the main ball handler, Reading over the comments, I think we can agree lavine can shoot, but can he develop his passing and decision making. By Drafting simmons it gives them that primary ball handler and I think lavine would be better suited playing off ball as a PG than the primary ball handler.

    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks

If the wolves drafted Simmons I say keep Rubio, great back up off the bench PG, plus he’s very injury prone and depth never hurts. I like the idea of Simmons being the main ball handler while LaVine would be the "PG".

Wiggins as a 2 or 3? Pretty simple his 3 ball game would have to be much better.
