Great game so far between Gonzaga and South Carolina.

This is my first time watching Zach Collins, and I’m really impressed. He’s got solid physical traits – 7 feet tall, long & fairly mobile. He’s skinny, but still competes on the glass and protects the rim very well. On offense, he’s got a smooth jumper with decent range, and a nice post-game to build on as well. He doesn’t seem sped up, nor has he forced it looking to score.

He hasn’t played a ton of minutes this season, but he looks like a lottery pick all day long if he declares.

His game reminds me a bit of Cody Zeller, which is ironic because I think if Collins declares, he could easily end up in Charlotte replacing Zeller.

If you werent on board with Zach Collins in the lottery before you should be now. Showed alot today. The clutch 3 point shot, career high in rebounds and career high in blocks were great but heres two plays that stood out for me.

High low pass to Karnowski for a clutch assist.

On South Carolinas last possession Felder he ended up gaurding Felder on the perimeter and Felder elected to pass up taking the 3 point shot because of Collins length.

Collins has proved hes a huge impact in the paint, great touch, smart player, plenty of go to and counter moves  good shot, mobility to switch onto gaurds show and recover. This guys amazing. Shades of Pau Gasol.

Credit has to be given to Mark Few for hiding this guy. Had the depth to do so now teams are struggling gameplanning against him.

Go Zags! Really wanna see Oregon advance. now that an all Carolina match is impossible. Mark Few cementing his coaching legacy vs his former team would be great cap on his career and a memorable championship.

He should come back for another season and cement himself as a top five pick.

Not really big on players draft stock being dictated based on one game but in this case I believe Collins performance against UNC could mean a difference of millions of dollars if he decides to enter and not just based on how he performs but whether or not Mark Few gives him minutes as well which he almost has to at this point. Its important to note he played a career high 23 minutes last night.

Theres the old fashioned Gonzaga big man tale. The WCC doesnt have qaulity bigs to match up against. However Saint Marys and BYU are tougher than advertised this still holds true. Perhaps Collins worst game of the year came against West Virginia a tough rebounding and defensive team. Although he did have 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks in 15 minutes against Arizona.

If he has a similar impact to the UNC game as he did against South Carolina (14 points, 13 rebounds, 6 blocks) I think he is a lock for the lottery and should enter the draft as the 1st C off the board. UNC has nuetralized some tough frontcourts this year though and should be up for the task.

Zach was originally on the 2018 site mock draft initially this season but good performances have meant he has been considered likely to declare this year. I’m always for player taking best long term decision but I’d say the 2018 frontcourt class looks very deep already – Ayton, Carter, Bamba are all top rated HSSr’s in the top 6 of next year’s draft before you get to the likes Robinson, Richards around the end of the top 10. Robert Williams is slated to return for a 2nd year at college too so Collins has a lot of guys he’d be in competition with.

Ivan Rabb returned this year and his draft stock has dropped, so I’d be of the thinking that Zach should probably declare whilst his stock is high. Zach is 2nd out of around 15 frontcourt guys between 10 and 30 on this site’s mock so where he goes could be a lottery literally and a load will depend on work outs. But realiastically I’d say he’d be late lottery to top 20 so his draft stock should hold up fairly well.

Portland will likely be after a frontcourter or two and have 3 first rounders so I’d assume they’d have a good look at someone like him.

Yep late lotto to early 20’s seems about right. I see about 7 teams that would be very interested Dallas, Sacramento, Charlotte, Detroit, Chicago, Portland and Milwaukee. His main positional competition should likely be Jarrett Allen and Justin Patton with Isaiah Hartenstein being a sleeper and I think only Allen is likely to go ahead of him. Thats if he declares because another year of development at Gonzaga wouldnt hurt at all.
