The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Xavier Henry.
Henry was a lottery pick in the 2010 NBA Draft but has appeared in just 50 NBA games.
Wow. 50 games in 3 seasons!?!?! The definition of a bust.
No, he played 50 games last season. 133 games in three seasons
Of all things I searched for his name on ESPN today to see what he was doing. He almost went to Kentucky and I was curious how he panned out. ESPN's search returned 0 results. He's that lame.
Well then you're doing something wrong, my friend
He will get a chance to turn his career around. Heard he was tearing it up in La in pickup games, but that does not mean much. Xavier had talent at Kansas. He needs to get healthy and focus on working on his game
He has a good body- that is about all that he has above average at the NBA level. He is a well-below average dribbler for a shooting guard and cannot dribble with his off-hand. Also, his jump shot has abandoned him in the NBA- which was supposed to be one of his strengths. He is still young and could get some PT with the Lakers with Kobe out and all, but he has so much he needs to improve on to reach his full potential. Right now, he is pretty much a worst-case scenario for Shabazz Muhammad IMO.
I thought he was going to be a stud in the L.
Hopefully he can turn it around, he's only 22.
Career Journey Man
Very ironic his .net comparison is Jimmy Jackson
I don't understand the Lakers offseason...
What's not to get?
Option 1: go all out to bring Dwight back.
Option 2 if option 1 fails: save, save, save $. Bring in young guys who could still emerge as solid players and can play in mike dantoni's system. whatever you do, don't hurt next summers cap flexibility.
We are both on the same page on this. Earl Clark was looking like he would be out of the league soon and then he revitalized his career with the Lakers and signed a nice deal. If one of these young guys pan out, Lakers will have a solid future considering they will have a lot of money next year and Kobe. Jordan Hill also turned his career around in LA. Ariza got that big contract because of his play in LA.
Wesley Johnson, Xavier Henry, Nick Young, Elias Harris, etc all have a lot of talent but will probably be able to be kept for cheap unless they turn into KD lite or something which will probably not happen.
Henry actually put up some big number games when healthy.
They've been doing that for awhile. Taking a risk on a player who is young, raw, lots of possible potential but less substance. Their risk/reward has been great so far with who they've brought in. I'd expect at least 2 of the guys you mentioned to have a decent year this year and be potentially traded for someone/thing else.
Shannon brown, jordan farmar, sasha vujevic
He is a very raw offensive player and thats bad when u also have loww basketball iq.. And no true position... Because of those thangs,he will continue being a journeyman.. He might be better off.going overseas and
He's a solid defender but never created his own shot or excelled in transition. He's a big dude, but was content just shooting 3's and not using his size against smaller guards. Not even in colleg. If he can stay healthy this year, he might be able to stick as a 3 and D guy, but if he doesn't this may be his last go in the NBA before heading overseas.
He and his bro were part of that Coach Cal haul at Memphis before he high tailed it to Kentucky.
Then he signed with Kansas, Cousins went to Kentucky, and only Will Coleman signed with Memphis.
Good size, good body, looks like a 2 guard, just can't do anything. This might be his last shot.
Seem like the lakers are giving a lot of ppl second chances.Xavier was the number one hs player on some sites but the number 1 hs sg on all sites.wesley johnson ,nick young and xavier henry, If any of these players can put together a solid season the lakers can have a nice bit players to add to the comeback team their trying to put together next season with kobe and the first round draft (lottery hopeful) draft pick their getting.
Now with Jamison leaving do the lakers and mike d take a shot at Beasley for one season? I don't see why not its already a redemption filled team.
I was able to check Henry in high school, it was on TV about 4-5 times. At that time he didn't really show me anything special. Showing me why I should be watching this guy? And the same thing at Kansas and last season in NOLA. So for the past few years, I've read and heard about this guy, but yet Henry has shown me nothing. There's nothing that stands out about his game??? To be truthful, I think signing with the Lakers could be Henry's last shot to "do something" in the league? I hope Henry can finally do something on the court???
I'll be honest. I think Xavier Henry is trash. Like to the point where I couldn't stand watching him get minutes and don't think he should be in the NBA.
I think Da1pot's post was a good assessment of him.
I don't think he'll be in the NBA after next season.
Xavier has highly touted especially going into his college career and was a lottery pick in a fairly decent draft. His NBA career has been limited and perhaps at the Lakers he will get the chance to shine. Playing under Coach D'Antoni's system will boost his stats if nothing else and having Steve Nash to learn from and control the offence will help him to develop and should increase his basketball IQ. Also being part of a big team even if it is in transition could help focus him to the sort of success he could possibly have and once Kobe returns he'll have him barking in his ear and driving him on.
even when he was at Kansas I honestly didn't think he was gnna be anything good
c'mon he has to be next!
I was actually a fan of his for awhile. He committed to my favorite team (Memphis) before Cal left and when he decommitted I followed his game at Kansas. Disappointing how awful he's been so far but maybe he can find some minutes while Kobe is out.
Dont forget he just had another knee surgery this summer.....
But actually as a 19 year old rookie he started 16 games (replacing an injured Rudy Gay) and he earned the praises of opposing coaches and players his rookie year..After a game in which he held Kobe to 9 of 25 shooting or something like that, Kobe gave his defense high praises....Former Memphis coach Hollins compared his defensive prowess to Shane Battier.....Memphis was high on him....
But he got injured in the middle of his rookie season and had to sit out the rest of the year and part of the next season....They said becuz of the injury he had lost a step defensively... Hollins kept him out of the rotation becuz they had alot of sfs ahead of him that could defend or hit the mid-range shot......Besides being a good defender Xavier didnt have anything else to offer...
Good to see him get another chance....the Lakers dont have anything to lose becuz he's on a non-guaranteed contract....
