In your opinion, what are the worst back to back lottery picks ever made?
The Thunder picking Robert Swift, Johan Petro, and Saer Sene back-to-back-to-back stands out. Missing on three consecutive raw 7-footers is rather embarrassing.
But the next three years they did pick KD Russ and Harden lol so maybe they needed to screw up to get lucky.
Also they picked up Ibaka in the same year as Russ.
...about the Jonny Flynn and Wes Johnson selections. Basically...the entire 2009 and 2010 drafts for the Wolves (outside of Rubio, of course). XD
in 2008 the suns picked Robin Lopez, in 2009 Earl Clark, 2010 they traded their pick, in 2011 they drafted Markieff Morris, in 2012 they drafted Kendall Marshall. Some of those are decent players but they never made a big impact and some like Clark did well on other teams.
I think every team has had some questionable drafts. For me, I think of tyreke, demarcus, jimmer, then robinson. The players aren't terrible, but when you consider it could've looked like: Curry, Monroe, Thompson/Leonard and Barnes/Lillard.
I thought you meant worst back to back picks in the same draft. But if you mean by a team, in back to back years, how about the Hawks in '05 -Marvin Williams and '06 -Shelden Williams. 2005- Marvin was taken the year after Josh Smith was drafted and past over both Paul and Deron Williams when they needed a pg. 2006 they took Shelden William a pick ahead of Brandon Roy when they needed a sg, even thought Roy didn't work out so well either.
In 2002 Draft, the Clippers draft Chris Wilcox #9 overall, then follows it up with #12 pick with Melvin Ely. 2 lottery selection, 2 big men and couldn't get it right, both were bust.
2004 pick 11 Andris Biedrins- later paying him 11 million a year to just sit on the bench (who I rather would have drafted: he did great during the "We Believe" team though not worth of 11 million if we drafted Al Jefferson instead he would be well worth it.)
2005 pick 9 Ike Diogu- undersize power forward (who I rather would have drafted: if we wanted an undersized four should have traded down for David Lee, or get Fran Vasquez and hope he likes the Bay Area better than Orlando to actually play in the NBA
2006 pick 9 Patrick O Bryant- Bradley University has produced no good NBA players maybe besides Hersey Hawkins back in the day (who I rather would have drafted: not many good picks in this draft, so trade down and go for an international and stash away, Thabo Sefolosha, Sergio Rodriguz had some decent years as a back up, or Joel Freeland)
2007 pick 8 Brandan Wright- traded Jason Richardson and a second round pick for him especially right after the "We Believe" team beat Dallas in the first round (who I rather would have drafted: just don't do the trade and just in the second round pick Marc Gasol only because he has a good last name then realize that he will be the defensive player of the year saying you knew it all along)
2008 pick 14 Anthony Randolph- basically a inch taller version of Wright, though he looked like he was always about to cry rather than having had braces (who I rather would have drafted: any other big guy in that first round Ryan Anderson for a home town kid, Roy Hibbert who I wanted personally back then, Serge Ibaka, just anyone)
Thanks KHAM83. What caused me to think of this? I was looking at Orlando's roster and who they might possibly go with Noel or McLemore if they got the #1 pick. Then I saw they still owned the draft rights to Franz Vasquez that they selected 11th overall back in 2005. Then the Clippers had the 12th pick and selected Yaroslav Korolev.
